  1. Hi, I had to ease into creamy soups. Most likely the peanut butter got you. It has a lot of fat. I'm over a month out and I can't eat any thing that has a lot of fat in it or I get sick. If it makes you sick don't do it. Just eat the cream soups. You have to blend the soups then strain them. Hope you feel better, sharon
  2. Actually, Yes, I think this is a great Idea. I go unconscious when I eat sometimes, it would keep us focused. Very very good idea. Sharon
  3. Here is another area to watch. I know I am insulin resistant because when I gained weight I became an apple shaped person. I have a hard time even eating fruit. When we are insulin resistant, anytime we eat even the smallest amounts of sugar in fruit or bread or jam or whatever, we retain water and every sugar calorie practically is converted to fat. There are many things we have to be aware of now that made us gain weight to begin with. I'm starting to be extra diligent and it will be easier when I can eat more foods. Sharon
  4. I guess that the most important thing to remember is Everyone is Different and we are experiencing this WLS recovery in different ways. I had my plication March 16th, I'm still easing into eating soft foods, I had to ease into eating cream soups, too. I'm trying to eat six small meals in order to keep my metabolism going. I measure my cottage cheese and applesauce. I also have been trying to get in the water, not too successful but I'm trying. I stop eating before I'm full, I can feel the point where if I take one more bite I will be too full. I don't want to have the same eating habits as before I had the surgery. I think we all have emotional eating habits because of our own personal story. The surgery doesn't take the emotions away, the surgery is making me more aware of them. I think we have to be aware of all this in order for the surgery to work. And, everyone's progress is going to be different. We have shocked the heck out of our bodies, we have added stress to it, too. In my case, I've been carrying around at least 50 lbs I don't need. I try to pick up a 50 lb bag of horse feed, this was before surgery, and realize this is what my body is carrying around. Fifty lbs of anything is heavy. I think we have to give our bodies a break and listen to it so it can get better. I think we all should lighten up a little before we say the WLS is not helping. Sharon
  5. I read somewhere in the literature they gave us we should look for protein sources and eat those first. The worthless calories will start the old cycle of blood sugar going up and down and cravings. I'm so sensitive to that applesauce does it to me. There are some protein shakes out there that are 250 calories. You could use them as a snack and you'd be right up at 1000 calories. Hope this helps, Sharon
  6. Yes, I still have gas. I take those Gas Ex strips and I chew a couple of the Papaya Enzyme that you get at Wall mart and it helps. I also walk around the house or outside and that really helps the most. I'm sure it is taking the gulps that makes the gas because we are taking in air. I started watching the series Addicted to Food on OWN channel and it scared me because there are a couple of ladies on there that gained all their weight back after Gastric Bypass. I absolutely have to change how I handle food. I don't want to have gone through all of this only to gain everything back. I must confront my issues and resolve them once and for all. It is a big journey we have here. i warned my husband what's going to come next. Nutty Sharon Yikes!!!
  7. Hi All, I had my plication March 16th and I just started soft foods. I have to say, I have the worst eating habits and I'm just confronting them because of the surgery. First, I take huge gulps, I have to really concentrate when I drink and talk about taking large spoons of cottage cheese. I do it unconsciously. No wonder my weight was out of control. I think I'm going to post signs on the kitchen table. What a mess! I'm working on it. I think I'll start slapping myself before I drink or eat to wake myself up! Sharon
  8. Hi, A couple of years ago I went on the 6 week body makeover. He recommends eating 6 times a day because our metabolisms need to know we are not starving bec if it thinks we are starving it shuts down. Also, walk everyday. I walk in the development across the street twice at a very leisurely pace. I may walk three times today. It is a real small development. I'm about 16 days out, too. I had mine March 16th and I have lost 9 lbs since then. In fact, this am when I weighed in I gained 12oz because I made pea soup with ham liquified it and then strained it. It had salt in it and now I am retaining water. However, I feel better today because of the protein. I could barely move a few days ago. I am determined now, and it is hard, to listen to my body and my pouch. We will both lose the weight. Sharon
  9. Good for you, I didn't try everything out before but I supplied myself with all the drinks and stuff before going for surgery. I already knew what I liked. The older I get the more I try to be prepared. But, maybe it is because I have horses that I do it. You have to be prepared when you own them. They are always into something goofy. I actually give protein isolate to one of my horses. He is 30 and his serum protein is low so I give him 150 grams of Isopure which is a whey protein isolate dry shake. I don't like it myself but he loves it. I mix it with his breakfast and he licks his bucket clean. I was researching all this at the same time I was researching my surgery stuff. I don't care for Isopure because the chocolate isn't strong enough. But, you may love it. Good luck to you, Sharon I had my surgery March 16th and I'm down 16 lbs since I started my pre-op.
  10. I bought some benefiber clear the one that dosn't thicken up. However, It was 8 days after surgery and one day after I took the Benefiber Clear. I only took a little and mixed it into one of my shakes. I have to say some of these cream soups I used to eat as a kid and loved are really terrible now. I'll have to check to see if I'm getting the low fat or low salt to make them so nasty. are we allowed Split Pea soup? sharon
  11. Good to hear you are feeling better Stoney, and good luck teaching. I feel real weak as well. Yesterday I could barely move but I drank another shake and I felt a lot better. I've lost 9 lbs since the surgery. It just takes awhile for our bodies to get adjusted. Good Luck, Sharon
  12. Congrats on your weight loss. It is good to hear from someone who is 5 months out. I am only 9 days out. Yesterday I was pretty tired but I added another shake and I feel a lot better today. I'm nervous about stretching my stomach but that is just me. I've kept to the liquids plan and I don't like yogurt very much. I like it but it is just not appetizing right now. Had mine on the 16th of March. I've lost 8 lbs since returning home. I took a nice walk this morning. Take care, Sharon
  13. Hi Stoney, I was wondering what happened to you? Glad you are feeling better, a little at least. I had to stay an extra day because I was having some vomiting issues but I'm home now and feeling better. My husband was very excited when I told him about you living so close to where we got our horses. Take care and keep us posted. Sharon
  14. I'll be having my surgery on the 16th. I'll be flying in from VA on the 15th. I'm nervous, too. I'll be alone as well. I have all my drinks and everything at home. I also am bringing some apple juice powders to drink at the hotel. I really need to do this. Looking forward to meeting you all. Sharon P. S. My Dove is one of my horses. I always want him near me.
  15. Hi, I'm getting a plication March 16th so I may be seeing Yolanda there. From what I have heard the plication procedure has been done for 10 years in Europe and probably South America with good results. My concern is for the long haul as well. I could go on a diet and lose the 60 lbs I need to lose but I wion't keep it off for a long time like I used to. I never had a weight problem until about 10 years a go. and, now it is completely impossible for me. sharon
