We went for a drive in the country yesterday and ended up in a town an hour away that we never go to. The husband and kids were starving so we stopped for dinner at the first restaurant we saw- a pizza joint. I haven't had bread in months so I didn't know if I could tolerate pizza dough, but I cut it in to small pieces and chewed well. It was loaded with toppings (meat, shrimp, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and olives) and tasted AMAZING!!! I was so mad that I couldn't even finish one piece. I wasn't feeling stuck or anything. I felt just perfect, totally satisfied, so I stopped even though I wanted more.

It was the first time in my married life that we split a large pizza between four of us and had some to bring home! The kids and I all had one piece, husband had three, and there was two pieces left! In the past, I would eat 4 or 5 pieces, hubby would have three and we'd have to get the kids their own meals `cause there would be none left to go around. Hell, I've eaten a large all by myself before. I'm just in shock that ONE piece is enough. I asked my skinny friend if that is what "normal" people usually eat.... only one piece? She said, yeah, one or two at most. Who knew? Haha. It's nice to feel normal. I could NEVER have done it without the band.

Funny you posted this. We went to dinner with some of our skinny friends and my friend and myself split something. We ordered an appetizer for the table first and she declined. What? Why would anyone turn down food that was right in front of you. Then she and I ate the exact same portion of food. I have the stomach the size of an egg and she is normal and we ate the same. She said she was full. A new woed for me, I am only 5 weeks banded so this learning to eat thing is a true learning experience for me. I still take one bite more than I should. But she is so cute and wears the cutest jeans. This is what normal is. I am starting to become normal. One more thing, I used to drink an incredible about of DC or tea or whatever. Now that I don't drink while I eat the waiter isn't runnung himself crazy trying to keep my glass full. That used to be so embarrassing. Even my husband said it grossed him out. Again, starting to become like all other normal people. Only about 3 sips out of glass before dinner.

Sabrina-

I have been totally shocked lately at what i can eat. I had a roll this week! The thin crust pizza has never been a problem, we order it crispy. Same thing a piece and I am done. I have been really excited that I can eat bread things in small portions. This is what Dr. Ortiz says, we should be eating everything in small portions. The last week I have eaten veggies, fruits, everything! Just in tiny portions eating super slow and really chewing it up! YAY!

I, too can only eat thin crust pizza and only one slice SUPER SLOW, otherwise I'm asking for a PB. I can eat one slice and then sometimes I'll eat the toppings off another slice or just the toppings. Lately, I've been steering clear of bready-carby things as stress at school sometimes makes me super tight.

I can only eat the toppings too – I don’t do well if I eat mixed things – seems to plug me up. (And it doesn’t taste as good as it use too). So I guess that’s a good thing.

That is one thing ive noticed since getting banded.. A lot of food just doesn't taste as good when you have to really chew it up as much a we have too. It really is a good thing though, a ton of bad food I just do not want to touch anymore.

Pizza however, for me, is not one of them. Hehe. I love me some pizza. Bit one slice does it for me as well.

Bread of any type is a no-no for me.... I've tried a couple different things since my last fill in Feb. and it gets stuck. I have eaten a few bites of pizza here and there but have never gotten past 2 or 3 bites.
I really thought I'd miss bread more than I do. I just kind of avoid it without even realizing it.... I had a hamburger on the grill today [it's a beautiful day in Pennsylvania!!] and put mine on the plate with some ketchup and vidalia onion [no bun] and it was AWESOME!!

That is my favorite pizza too Pammie! Sooo good! I too only eat the toppings, today I ate the toppings off of one piece (pepperoni and olives) and a small boneless wing. I was full. Luckily I got my unfill on Friday because I truly think I am at my sweet spot now! LOVE IT! Cheers for being "normal" eaters now!! :D

Hi, I am new to the board! Just got my lap band a week ago. So far I am doing well, scared to death to "test" anything so I am following my surgeon's game plan 100% to the letter. Still on liquids until Wednesday when I graduate to mushies.

I just wanted to comment because if there is one food that is my favorite of all time, it is pizza. Nothing fancy, just good ole New York plain cheese pizza. I am quite satisfied with 2 slices pre-surgery, but I thought this was a pleasure denied for me forever post-banding.

I feel a smile coming on, to think that I will (perhaps) be able to eventually eat a slice of heaven (pizza!) in the future.
I am totally on board with the smaller portions, chewing well, eating protein first, the whole 9 yards. Do not feel deprived or poor me, but sure was nostalgic about that pizza.....

I love pizza and live 1 block from my favorite pizza joint. I haven't had pizza since being banded and don't really miss it all that much. I too find that things I used to love don't taste the same and I'm really glad for it. I can eat bread/dough, but only in tiny quantities since my second fill. It plugs me up, so I stay away for the most part. And it's funny that I now think of an odwalla super protein shake as a sugary treat, like any piece of pie/cake or candy. :-)

I love pizza too...but currently, can't eat the crust ~ no matter if it's thin or not. So, I just make a 'fake' crust either buy putting the toppings on the wax paper and bake it as is and eat it OR I would do a rice crust with cheese mixed in and top with whatever topping I want on top and VIOLA!
