  1. Thanks Lisal, 3 days? UGH! But if it means it won't happen again then NO PROBLEMO!
  2. I'm hoping one or more of you may know what happened last night w/ my band. I've had it on for 3 months and had my 3rd fill (2.4cc) about 10 days ago. I came home and made a salad w/ a chicken patty cut up in pieces. Only took about 3 bites and felt that "stuck" pain. Only this time the pain got worse and worse. After about 1/2 hour, I couldn't even swallow spit and threw up the spit I had swallowed. The pain was incredible and the spit thing went on for about an hour....vomitting only spit. After another 20 minutes, a small bit of the salad came up and a later, a little more. Overall, this went on for close to 2 hours and my stomach was in knots until I went to bed. This morning I'm just a little sore and plan to be careful and do liquids only. I've had food stuck before, and have stopped eating, waited and it's gone away in about 10 minutes. I truly felt as if I had a full restriction across my stomach this time and it was HORRIBLE! I guess I expected that if I had a problem, by throwing it up, it would be over. I've never vomitted before so this was totally new to me.... Can anyone help me understand what happened because I think if I had to live w/ that or being fat, I'd choose fat! Thanks!
  3. Thanks! I'm really at the same point I was at my first fill in terms of weight loss. About 4 lbs fluctuating each way w/out any real movement. It's been two weeks since 2nd fill, I may wait and then have a smidge more put in. I know it's a tool but let's face it, the point is for it to slow us from being ABLE to overeat in the first place (at one sitting). I feel like I'm able to eat too much. I appreciate the advice.
  4. I'm wondering how to tell if I have enough restriction. I have had 2 fills and now have 2cc in my 4cc band. The first week after the 2nd fill, I was VERY full all the time. Now I can pretty much still eat whatever I want, and will feel full, but feel like I can still eat too much. Not as much as before, but definitely not only 1/3 as much. I"m scared to get a 3rd fill so soon (3 months post op) because I have alot of weight to lose. But I'm also worried that I'm not close to my sweet spot because I've never PB'd or even come close to vomitting. Is that something I should be experiencing? I'm certainly not losing very fast and will lose 3 and gain 2, lose 4 and gain 3. UGH! Thanks guys!
  5. I'm one of those "Have to know" type people as well. I asked Dr. Miranda about slippage when I was at OCC and she said "you'll know because you'll be vomitting constantly". But....Michelle shared a link to a video of the actual surgery and after watching that (don't have the link but you can probably search for it on the forum) I understood much more clearly. The slippage is not really a matter of the band falling down on the stomach, but the lower stomach moving up into the pouch. Kind of like moving up and in. When they suture your band in place, they bring the lower part of your stomach up and over the band (think of a belt w/ your skirt and grabbing a section of fabric about 2" below your belt to pull up and over your belt and then stitch it to your shirt). So the band seems to be covered by part of the stomach and stitched in place. I encourage everyone to watch that surgery if you like to know details and understand the "how and why" of things. Good luck!
  6. Yep, hang in there, it WILL happen. I just finished w/ my aunt and dropped 6 lbs overnight. How weird is that?
  7. I've been dealing w/ this "lump" in my throat for about 6 weeks now and am about 10 weeks post op. I personally don't believe it is restriction. I've gone on all clear liquids and have had the lump come back about mid morning. Nothing in my pouch at all, but the lump is there. I believe it is a form of reflux which I researched. But I think that tightness aggravates it. I've found that not eating before bed helps and I've been taking pepcid once a day. Worked well for a while until my time of the month, and then the tightness and restriction came back. I've had one fill and am going for a second soon. If it doesn't get better I will go for flouroscopy, but I do NOT think this is a restriction thing. Every thing I've read indicates it's reflux, and you don't have to be experiencing burning to have reflux, FYI. I hope we can all figure it out though, makes me feel better just to know I'm not the only one going through this. BTW, this is listed as one of the side effects of banding surgery...unfortnately!
  8. I was told that at OCC so long as you had a BMI over 30 you qualified. Mine was 39 so I was "good". A friend of mine had the surgery same day. Her BMI was not that high but it had been in the past. They didn't think twice about banding her. It's all about what works for you and if you feel you need this as a tool and are willing to pay for it, someone will band you.
  9. Yes, I've posted about it here but I haven't gotten much response. I didn't have it until about 4 weeks post op. It stayed for a while and then went away. But it came back the day before my first fill. I told the nurse about it and although she didn't say what it was, she told me they usually don't fill people who have that. (I'll ask her next time I see her). I had the fill anyway with the promise that I would come back if I had problems. I have it whenever there is food in my stomach. It is VERY annoying. It's gone when I wake up in the morning. Today I stayed on liquids until about 2pm w/ no sensation of the lump in the throat, and then ate 1/4 of a sandwiche, chewing very slowly and making the food mush before I swallowed. There is was again! I've googled it and am finding some others who have experienced this. Evidently dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) can be one of the side effects of LB. I called OCC and was told to come down for a Flouroscopy and to check my Esophagus but I'm in denial and am just hoping it will go away. Feel free to stay in touch and we can compare notes. It would be so nice to just know what it is!! Please let me know what your DR says.
  10. Don't worry, it's normal. I gained back four of the 20 I lost during the liquid and since my first fill last week have dropped them all. This is a long term thing and although it's definitely frustrating to gain, keep your eye on the big picture! You made it through the liquid phase :-)
  11. So I finally figured out what this was and I hope this will help if anyone else has the problem. I did email OCC and Renee told me to call and talk to one of the DR's. I left a message and never heard back. So I did some research on my own and figured it out. Ever since my banding I have had great difficulty swallowing pills. I'm not sure why. I can swallow food well....to well as a matter of fact LOL Last week, I had a raging head ache and took 2 Ibuprofen. They too stuck in my throat. I'm pretty sure that they irritated or ulcerated my Esophagus. After that, when I ate anything "rough" it irritated it and made me feel like there was something lodged in my throat. I took two days and ate very little and when I did eat, it was only soft things. The sensation is virtually gone. I'm a little disappointed at the lack of response on the part of OCC but am glad it wasn't something more serious. This was a really annoying, concerning issue that seems to have resolved itself!
  12. Does anyone else experience the sensation of having something stuck in their throat...all the time? I've tried to cough it up, gag it up and even tried sticking my finger down my throat (really) because it feels like it's that close to my mouth. It happens every time after I've eaten. I'm 5 weeks post op and getting my first fill next week...but this is driving me absolutely nuts! Not stuck, pressure in my chest, but like a chip or something is stuck just beyond my tonsils. It's driving me NUTS!
  13. Mine is still tender about a month post surgery. Every now and then when I'm laying on my stomach sleeping, I'll move in a weird way and it's a burning pain. At first I thought it was the stitches, but those have to be dissolved by now...who know...it gets better every day so I'm ok w/ it. :-)
  14. Wow and you've lost 35 lbs!! That's great! I've had a few "stuck" incidents, mostly where I've eaten too fast. I just don't get why I can't swallow capsules very well.
  15. I have not yet had my first fill and am 4 weeks post op. Does anyone know why tablets and/or capsules get stuck when I try to swallow them? I don't understand what my band (unfilled) has to do w/ this. Also, after I eat, I often feel as if there is food lodged in my throat, right at the base of my neck. It's sooo irritating and I just wish I knew why and if it is going to last. Thanks for the help!
