  1. Hi All, It's been a long time since Ive been on this forum but I remember it being a wonderful source of help and support. I was banded in August of 2009 and lost 60 lbs. I am 6 foot tall and my best weight was 165. After about 3 yrs I was tired of the "stuck" feeling so I had some liquid removed from my band. Big mistake. Now its 2014 and I have never had the "sweet spot" feeling since. I've had many fills, unfills, etc. excessive heartburn, choking, spitting up etc. I wish I would have just left it alone. I now have to eat standing up, just to get anything to go down and of course, I can eat anything I want. DAMN I still have to run to the bathroom sometimes to "choke up" whatever is stuck and now I am beginning to excessively vomit (sorry) once I begin I can't stop. Now its 2014, Ive gained back to 200 lbs. I stepped on the scale today and almost died. I admit I have eaten around the band, ignored the scale etc. I want my old self back. I do have trouble with the band, for instance when I bend over, I feel as if the port gets stuck and I have to move around carefully and get it back in place. So basically, there is not exercising for me. Even bending over to put on my socks, the port will move into a wrong place. So, now I am considering having the band removed and having a sleeve or plication. I am wondering what you would suggest. How successful is the plication? Is it really in its experimental stages. I need to hear from both sleeve patients and plication patients to make my decision. Of course, I would not go anywhere except OCC because I had such a wonderful experience and I am secretly in love w Dr Ortiz and his wonderful staff. Sorry this is so long, just really need help deciding what to do. THANK YOU!!!
  2. Alana: I hope your fill went well. My first fill experience sucked!! Let us know how you're doing.
  3. WOW this is really an exciting time for you!!! I was banded Aug 18th and I don't regret one moment! You'll do fine. Just do alot of research on this forum and remember we are all here to help you. Congratulations!!!
  4. It's probably gas. I had a tight chest and felt like I couldn't breath for about 10 days after the surgery. Feel better!!
  5. Thanks for all the kind responses! Dana you are so funny! Anyone who knows me couldn't believe I didn't smack the doctor right then and there but I was really very surprised he treated me that way! I was one mad Texan as well!! My sister was so surprised he acted as he did because she said he always calls her by name and then HUGS her when she leaves. Needless to say, she will not return as well. I am looking into filing a report on him and believe me, he will get a scathing letter! There is a new bariatric surgeon here in Amarillo so I am going to call him to see if he will do a fill.
  6. My friend and I were banded together at the OCC August 18th. Beforehand, we talked to my sisters' doctor in Dallas and he said he would do our fills (Dr. Robert Carter). He was highly recommended by my sister (who is hard to please). She raved and raved about him and so we were excited to get to go to him. Well, I flew to Dallas last Monday and my friend picked me up and we went to our appointment. I have NEVER been treated so badly!! First of all, I noticed the front desk people were very very short with us and the receptionist wrote "MEXICO" on our chart. My friend went in, they weighed her and shuffled her off to another room where the doctor came in and shoved a cup of that chalky stuff at her and told her to take a swig. She drank the whole thing and he got mad. He did the flouro on her and told her that her band was at an angle. She asked if that was bad and he said, "That's what you get for going out of the country". She asked if it would affect her weight loss and he told her, "Who knows?" She told him she hasn't lost much weight and she had alot of questions and he ignored her. He pushed her back on the table, raised her shirt and shoved the needle in. She said she was kind of startled that he was acting that way. She told him she was kind of bummed about not losing weight and now her band is at an angle (almost crying) and he said, "Again, what to you expect if you go to Mexico?" I was the next patient in and was treated very coldly also. It was like he was pissed that we went to Mexico for surgery. If anybody would have bothered to ask me why I would of told them I went to the person I felt was the most qualified. Anyway, the doctor came in, shoved the chalked stuff at me, took the picture and laid me back. The needle hurt like hell. He lifted me up, took another picture and told me to come back in a month. I swear we were both in that office for MAYBE ten minutes. It was like a whirlwind. When we got in the car we compared stories and realized we are never going back to him. Anyway, just wanted to vent. It was a weird experience to be treated like a second-class citizen. I work in a doctors office and I always make sure the doctor introduces himself to new patients and takes the time to explain or ask any questions. By the way, this fill cost me $300, which had to be paid up-front! Has anyone had a good fill experience in Texas? We were treated so well in Mexico that it was kind of an eye-opener! Sorry this is so long...
  7. Don't forget the sports bra! This was a lifesaver for me! Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress!
  8. Hello; I just logged on and read your post. I would think that the weight is flying off of you with the amount you eat! The items you listed seem to be the correct amount and you are eating enough protein. I'm no veteran, I've only been banded for about six weeks and I am getting my first fill tomorrow but I am stumped with how to help you. Are you still drinking enough water? Are you exercising? Sometimes I think we need to change the routine up enough to throw our body into shock and then the weight comes off. I'm sorry that you're feeling this way and I'm doubly sorry that you didn't get a quicker answer but I would just like to reiterate to you that we are all here to help each other and we all want to lose weight. You sound very down and that makes me sad. When I get my fill tomorrow, I am going to ask my doctor what he thinks you should do and I will let you know. Until then, please just hang in there!!!!
  9. Hi Stormy: Glad you're doing better. Hang in there because I don't care what they all say IT IS BANDSTER HELL!! I had a very rough time getting through those 21 days, they stretched on forever and I was a total bitch. But...I lost 17 pounds and I am doing great. Bandster hell is just a dim memory to me now. I am going for a fill Monday so I hope I don't find out what "real" bandster hell is!!! Just a question for you: You said you were on a website that counted your calories?? What web site is that?
  10. DR. ROYE DOESN'T HAVE HIS PRACTICE HERE ANYMORE. I FORGET THE DR THAT REPLACED HIM, BUT I WILL FIND OUT. YES, DR. CARTER DOES THE FLUORO. MY SISTER SAID NOT TO HAVE A FILL WITHOUT IT. THAT'S COOL YOU LIVE SO CLOSE!!!
  11. Hi Stormy: First of all...calm down. Take a deep breath and relax because I promise you, everything will be okay. Please don't go into surgery with all of this worry! Your son will be fine with the sitter. This is an exciting time for you and your husband and you just need to relax. Take some time for yourself and your husband. You won't need a phone card. Your cell phone will work at the clinic with no extra charges. I'll be praying and thinking of you. Let us know how it goes. My grandmother used to tell me, "Don't borrow trouble". That means your worrying over trouble that hasn't even happened. I know it's hard to leave your son, but this is for the best. Good Luck!!
  12. Thanks Kathy! You have been so helpful to me!!
  13. I was banded August 18th and suffered through the liquid stage and now I can eat. Problem is....not really sure what to eat. I have lost 15 pounds (50 to go) and I am kind of sticking to the Adkins diet. I have a BOOST protein drink in the morning and after that I eat a lean cuisine or grilled chicken. But I just wondered...what are ya'll eating everyday? Also, is it okay to have an alcoholic drink?
  14. I ACTUALLY WAS "OUTED" BEFORE I WAS EVEN BANDED. I TOLD ONE FRIEND AND WELL....EVERYONE IN MY SMALL TOWN KNOWS. I DID HAVE ONE GIRL TELL ME "I'LL JUST STICK WITH DIET AND EXERCISE". BY THE WAY SHE IS WAAAAAY HEAVIER THAN ME!! I GUESS DIET AND EXERCISE ISN'T WORKING FOR HER. ITS REALLY WEIRD THE WAY PEOPLE REACT. EVERYBODY THINKS THIS IS THE "EASY" WAY BUT THAT IS THE TOTAL OPPOSITE. IT IS A LIFE-CHANGING DECISION. I FEEL LIKE EVERYONE WATCHES ME EAT NOW. I WAS AT A COCKTAIL PARTY THE OTHER NIGHT, AND THE GIRL THAT TOLD THE WHOLE TOWN ABOUT ME OFFERED ME SOME CHOCOLATE AND THEN LAUGHED AND SAID "OH YEAH, WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO WITH CHOCOLATE...LICK IT TO DEATH". I FIGURE MY REVENGE WILL COME FIFTY POUNDS LATER!!!
  15. I LIVE IN TEXAS AS WELL (AMARILLO) AND I AM GOING TO MY SISTERS' DOCTOR IN DALLAS, THAT DID HER SURGERY. HE IS DR ROBERT CARTER AND HE WILL BE DOING MY FILLS. I BELIEVE HE PROCTORED UNDER DR. ORTIZ SO HE IS HAPPY TO TAKE ON HIS PATIENTS FOR FILLS. I THINK THE COST IS $300. YOU MIGHT TRY GETTING HIM TO DO YOUR NEXT FILL. GOOD LUCK!
