  1. I have talked to Dr. Miranda. She suggested gatorade and adding fruits and vegetables into my diet and especially food high in iron such as spinach. I did wonder if I was just low in iron. Plus, just to clarify, I have not been like this the entire time since my surgery. Just in the last week.
  2. Has anyone else been struggling with low energy and fatigue? This is my 5th week post plication. I've been eating regularly and drinking the min. 64 oz of water and taking my multivitamin. I've just been so tired lately. All I want to do when i get home is go to sleep. I lack energy at work. I know I'm getting enough protein. I have a high protein shake and protein rich foods like eggs and fish. Sometimes, I even feel a little light headed. Is it because of the weight loss and the reduced calories (I target 1200 a day)? I'd like to find out if anyone else has struggled with this. Thanks Morgan
  3. I am only 3.5 weeks out and I'm very happy with the procedure. I've been losing 2-3 lbs a week and that is fine with me. I keep in touch with another person who had the plication on the same day and she is very happy as well. Some people have posted their disappointments due to lack of weight loss, and everyone will have varying results, but I really believe that some of us may not be eating enough calories for maximum metabolism. I try to target 1200 calories each day. This has really helped me experience steady weight loss. I eat about 5oz. of food per meal and get full quickly. I try to eat every 3 hours. And drink plenty of water!
  4. You'll do great! Just remember-its all normal to feel not so great the first couple of days (don't compare yourself to other patients-especially the banders) I'm on my 3rd week post op and feeling much better every day. Looking forward to soft foods in a few days.

  5. I was just wondering how the member title is changed. I'm still showing up as "new member", which i guess I am since I joined in the beginning of March. Does it change automatically to "member" after a set period of time, or is there a way to go in and manually change status? Thanks
  6. Congratulations on the good news. I'm sure all will be fine. Many women have had babies after weight loss surgery. You are in good company. With your smaller stomach, you'll be able to have better control and make smarter choices with your food while going through pregnancy! Please continue to share your experience with us and reach out for any support!
  7. It's been exactly two weeks since my plication and I've lost 8 lbs. From what I've been reading, this seems to be at pace with everyone else who's had plication recently. I think many of us (me included) had some high expectations that the lbs would just melt off after surgery, but reality is setting in now and I'm adjusting my expectations accordingly. I think 2-3 lbs a week is a good rule of thumb. I'm trying not to run to the scale every day and night. There is always the water retention factor to consider. It'll just drive you crazy! Thank you all for sharing your progress! It's good to know I'm not alone in this!
  8. Feeling better with each passing day. Just be prepared to be a little uncomfortable the first week out. Mainly gas issues. The 1st couple of days you'll be struggling with some nauseau when you try to drink anything. This too gets easier. Now, I'm just fighting the mental hunger- I want to eat everything but your stomach is not hungry nor can you physically eat anything substantial

  9. This is my 7th day after plication. It's a delicate question but.....how soon should you start having bowel movement? I've been on clear broths and gatorade for the past week, so I'm not concerned, yet. Maybe when I move onto the 2nd phase of liquids such as creamy soups and protein shakes? I've also been taking my gummy fibers to encourage it along. When should I start getting worried? Thanks.
  10. I had plication last Friday and flew home on Monday. There was one other plication patient with me, who had no trouble flying home on Sunday. On a side note, there were three bands performed that same day, based on my observation, they seemed to recover better than myself and my fellow plication friend. As a case in point, one band patient flew home Saturday and another was feeling well enough to shop during the day after being discharged from the hospital. On the other hand, I had it pretty rough through the day of my return flight back home and even a couple of days thereafter. I'm only today starting to feel a little bit like myself again. I guess what I'm trying to say is that everyone is different!
  11. I just had the plication this past Friday (18th). Its been a rough few days but seems to get better everyday. One suggestion for the flight back- try to get an isle seat. you'll need to get up often to relieve the gas in your stomach!

  12. Hi Becky! I'm so glad to hear from you. Its been a rough few days, but it does seem to get better every day!

  13. i'm home now. 3 days ago, i had the plication procedure. I've noticed a lot of gurgling from the stomach up to my throat after every sip of liquid. is this normal? please tell me its only gas and that it will pass! Its a bit scary!

    Incisions

How many incisions do they need to make for plication? Also, how big are the incisions and where do they make the cuts? Do we get a drainage tube as well? Thanks
  15. Hi Y'all. I'm having my plication on the 18th as well! It's been comforting to read the posts and to know that I'm not the only one experiencing anxiety over my decision. The past few days have been really a struggle- I keep thinking of complications that may result from the surgery and what if I end up regretting having the procedure? Everyone has been so positive and supportive of one another! Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and comments in this forum!! It is much appreciated. I will be traveling alone, so I hope to meet some great people in Mexico!
  16. Hi. I'm new to this forum. I've schedule a gastric plication for March 18th which is a Friday. I plan on flying back home on Monday the 21st and was concerned about getting on an airplane so soon after surgery. I've heard you should not fly for at least 10 days due to blood clotting risks or possible deep vein thrombosis. My flight back will take 4 hours and I'm a bit anxious about complications. Can anyone respond to this matter? Did the doctors prescribe any blood thinners such as tylenol to take for the flight home or take any other precautions? Thanks in advance.
