  1. Hi Jenna, I noticed that you said you had a yearly check-up in March. Is that with Dr. Ortiz? I haven't seen him at all since the surgery & am wondering if that is something we are all supposed to do besides go down for fills.
  2. Hi Esanche! I have heard of very few people who have had problems with slippage or erosion! My guess is that nobody is responding because they don't know the cost of it or have had that problem. Maybe the few who HAVE had the problem haven't been on-line. I'm sure someone will respond to you!! Dianechef
  3. I am 5 days post-op & I haven't really had any gas pains!! I had heard so much about feeling bloated & miserable & am surprised that I'm not feeling it. So, I definately think everyone is different.
  4. Hi Everyone! I had my surgery done July 14th and returned home last night!! I thought I would give an overview of my experience in Mexico. Thursday morning my husband and I were picked up at the San Diego airport & taken across the border directly to the clinic. It was about a 20 min. drive. Once we got to the clinic, everyone was very friendly & spoke very fluent english. You meet other people who are having the surgery the same day & you feel very comfortable. Mrs. Ortiz (Dr. Ortiz's mother) is a hoot!! She is a lot of fun & will make you feel right at home. She will take you around to all the tests & then drop you off at your hotel. The tests were all very easy & normal procedures you would have done at your regular doctor's office. They had an opening to have the surgery that day & I choose to have it done instead of wait until the next morning. After all the tests, I was taken to the hospital which is a very modern & well-maintined. I was very impressed that it smelt so good!! All the nurses were very friendly & I never felt uncomfortable at all. Some of them don't speak very much english, but it didn't seem to be a problem. They knew exactly what to do & were very happy & accomodating. Dr. Ortiz came into my room & went over the procedure!! He is a very nice man who has a great sense of humor. I felt like he knew me!! He explained everything that was going to be happening & went over any questions we had. I felt like I was in very good hands!! The surgery took about 45 min. When I awoke, I felt a minimal amount of pain & was quite surprised that it didn't hurt more. They gave me ice chips & juice to drink & I felt good. I was up & walking within an hour. I spent most of the evening talking with the other patients in the rooms next door & we all agreed how easy the procedure was. I slept great the night & was even able to sleep on my side. I went to my hotel room the next day & only felt a minimal amount of pain. You would have never known I had surgery the night before!!! My husband & I spent the next 2 days walking around Tijuiana & visiting with the other bandster patients. The hotel was very accomodating with the food choices for us. They have great chicken broth, jello, & juices. I was EXTREMELY happy with how my surgery went in Mexico & felt very comfortable!! I can't wait to return in 6-8 weeks when I get my fill!! Dianechef
  5. I am interested in knowing how many people have had plastic surgery after having WLS? I have heard that the younger you are, the less chance you have of needing plastic surgery. Is that true? If so, I am hoping that I am still young enough (34) & still have the elasticity in my skin to not have it hang once I lose the weight. Has anyone successfully lost weight & not had hanging skin? If so, what was the secret? Did you exercise? Please share your experiance? If you did have surgery, where did you have it & what was the cost? Dianechef Surgery date: July 15th (10 days & counting!)
  6. Hi Trixxy! It sounds like you are still in the learning process about Lap Band surgery. I would go to the original OCC website & read all the information about the surgery. (www.obesitycontrolcenter.com) It will explain everything you need to know about the fills & other questions you had. It is very informative!! I also reccomend that EVERYONE order Dr. Ortiz book - Lap Band For Life. It is very good & easy to read. It answers every question anyone would ever have about Lap Band Surgery & more!! Just so you know, most of us who are going to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico either do not have insurance or their insurance does not cover WLS. However, through my study, I believe that Dr. Ortiz is the absolute BEST doctor to perform this surgery!! I looked into Mexico because the cost is much less. What I found out is that I will have a doctor who is one of THE BEST lap-band surgeons in the industry. He has trained most of the doctors in the US. Even if my insurance did cover the cost, I truly would go to Dr. Ortiz because I know I'm in the best hands. I have not yet had my surgery, but I have been studying the topic for 2 years. I will get to officially meet Dr. Ortiz in 10 days & can't wait!! I feel very good about my decision to go to Mexico!! Good luck Trixxy!! Dianechef
  7. I would love to know what reactions any of you have had from others about your weight loss. Have you lost friends? Have people treated you differently? Has it all been positive? I am counting the days until I will be banded. (10 days to be exact!!!) However, I am a little concerned at how my family & friends will react to my weight loss. I have several sisters who are all overweight. Being fat is our topic of choice!! When ever we're together, we have great times talking about our fat experiences. Just recently we all had a great laugh when I told them of what it was like to try on swim suits at the store. I also have friends who are overweight as well & I'm not sure what they're going to think about it all. My sisters all know about my upcoming surgery & they seem interested in it & want me to share my experience. However, they have also made comments about not being able to laugh with me anymore once I lose the weight. I want to be prepared for negative reactions. Any insight I can get from all of you would be great!!
  8. I am being banded in 10 days. Yeah!! The price I am paying is $9500. It is really a good deal because it covers EVERYTHING except airfare. It includes the hotel stay & the BEST lap-band doctor available. When you fly into the San Diego airport, OCC will arrange to have someone pick you up at the airport & take you back. Everything is truly taken care of for you. If you just get your airfare, they do the rest!! Southwest has lots of specials flying into San Diego. If you call the company they will send you some information about the surgery & everything you need to know - including the cost. They are wonderful to talk to!! There is no pressure, just good information that will help you decide. Call 1-866 - Dr. Ortiz. Good luck!! Dianechef
  9. Hi Everyone! I am so excited about being banded in TJ on July 15th. My one concern is the fills. It would be a big expense to travel back each time but I am willing to do it if it's worth it. I've been told that Dr. Ortiz does fills better then any other doctor I could go to. Has anyone had an experience with fills at home & in TJ? Can you tell a difference? Is it worth the cost? 11. I am getting banded in a few weeks & am very excited!!! I have Dr. Ortiz book & am wondering if the info. in it is the same instructions as he gives now for post-op eating. Should I follow the book or wait to get instructions from him at surgery time? I wanted to stock up on clear liquids & mushy foods before I have the surgery.
  12. I am scheduled to be banded in a few weeks & then attend a Girl's camp with my church the following week. I am wondering if I am crazy to do this or not? I'm not sure how I'll be feeling. I've heard people that go back to work the week after & figured I'd be fine. From those who've been there, can you tell me how you felt the week after surgery & if you would suggest camping for 3 days?
