  1. I had the same exact problem. My mom cried for two days. Finally, I just said, "Look, Dr. Ortiz is the best. He TAUGHT the surgeons here (in Salt Lake City) how to do the procedure. Do you want me to go to the teacher or the student? You can go online and learn about this, or you can go on freaking out. My life is just as important to me as it is to you, and I promise you, I will not take any chances with it. Go educate yourself instead of making assumptions that make me feel bad." Your support people love you, and they want you to stick around. I was wigging out over going to Mexico at first, too. But the more I learned, the more I realized the expert lived in Mexico. Nothing you can do about that! The hotel and hospital are above reproach. In fact, I've worked in healthcare for 15 years, and I would give Dr. O and his hospital (actually, an outpatient surgical center) my heartiest endorsement. If you haven't bought his book, get it. It has become something of a bible for me--and many others I've talked to. And when people ask questions, you can just hand it to them. Good Luck!!
  2. Hi Maplewillow, No, you don't need a passport or birth certificate. All you need is a driver's license--and you don't even need that until you try to get back into the states. No one looks twice as you drive into Mexico, but they screen you like crazy when you try to come home. I took my daughter with me, and she's only 12, so no D.L. So, for her, we had to have the birth cert. We were detained at the border because supposedly a dog smelled something in the car, but it was a false alarm, and we were on our way in 45 minutes. It wasn't a problem. Calbris2--Yes, I'm the lady from Utah with the husband and daughter. No, you don't have your capris confused. They are cute, aren't they? I think I got them at T.J. Maxx. Gotta love that store. Two other people were banded that Tuesday after I met you. I'm corresponding with the one, and she's doing great. She and her husband were with my family when we got detained at the border. Kinda funny--what an adventure! Sounds like your fill is pretty tight. Are you feeling better? Thanks for the advice on the slight gain. I'm not weighing again until next Sunday. I gotta have good news. I think part of the problem is that I was on liquid protein for the week prior to the surgery (new procedure--I think I may have mentioned to you in the waiting room), so I was down 10.5 pounds BEFORE I was banded. Now I think my body is freaking and trying to hold on to every calorie. Anyway, I'm not stressing about it anymore. Funny how staying off the scale does wonders for your mood. Later--
  3. Hey CalBris2, I was one of the people you asked if they were Calgirl. It was the day before I got banded, and you and I chatted a bit. I have short dark hair, and I was wearing a black top and khaki linen capris. Do you remember me? Anyway, I was banded on Tuesday, August 16, and I've GAINED a pound and a half. Have you ever heard of that happening??? I'm only eating clear liquids, and not even very much of those. Yesterday I had two half cups of broth, one half cup of jello, and water. THAT'S IT! And I GAINED??? Do you have any advice for me??? Val 230/232/135 Banded by Dr. Ortiz 8/16/05
  4. Help!! I was banded on 8/16/05, and I've gained 1.5 pounds from my pre-surgical weight. I was on liquid protein for the week prior to the surgery, and I lost 10.5, but now I'm home and eating only clear liquids. Yesterday I ate two half cups of broth, a half cup of jello, and water. THAT'S IT!!! But my weight is up! I'm freaking out. Can anybody help??? Val 230/232/135 Banded by Dr. Ortiz 8/16/05
