  2. Hey all! I thought I’d make a threade for those of us who are having surgery in July of 2018! I personally am scheduled for July 10th. Anyone else?
  3. I have scheduled my VSG surgery for 9/19/18. Hope to meet new sleeve friends on this journey
  4. So, I weighed in at 168 after weighing the morning of my flight at 169 so I am pretty sure that the starting weight is accurate with my home scale. When I got back, the next day I weighed 176--eight pounds more than my starting weight despite another week of clear fluids since my pre-op weigh-in. I emailed OCC with this concern but I have not heard back from them with any reasonable explanation. The only difference I can identify is that I did not take the blood pressure meds during 5 day post-op period and restarted once I returned home. The reason I did not take blood pressure meds is because my blood pressure was extremely low during the post op period, like 92/58. Not symptom-low but too low to add a medication. Has anyone else experienced this? I am now 166lbs and this 10 days after my post-op weight of 176. That it is somewhat disappointing because is only 16 lbs less than my starting weight after 6 weeks of fluids. Trend in the right direction however, and I will follow the program and be patient. I am trialing removing one of my three BP meds, have eliminated the water pill and am having acceptable blood pressure readings. I suspect that when my weight loss is complete, I might reduce the 2nd med. (Do not try this without your doctor's approval; I am a retired RN and having been managing my BP for many years.)
  5. Hello, I recently had vsg surgery 10 days ago and I haven't lost ANY weight! I lost 13lbs during preop diet. I am so scared that I will not lose weight. It was so hard for me to lose weight following all the different diets throughout my life. I THOUGHT that this HUGE decision to have my body cut open and manipulated would help. BEFORE you say it, I KNOW vsg is only a tool, which is why I exercise and follow the postop eating plan. I have been walking and consuming full liquids. I drink 6 bottles of water daily and get the recommended amount of protein. Idk what else I could do. Please God tell me all of this wasn't for nothing!   6. I was wondering if anyone has used the lenders for their surgery. I have seen the ones on OCC's site medloanfinance.com and medicalfinancing.com have any of you used them and how was your process. Are they reputable are their rates good pros cons?
  7. Hello Im new here and I am considering VSG or Plication. I have never heard of the Plication until I started researching the Lap Band (which I almost decided on) but I was concerned with having the band and port inside me and haveing to get fills, possible slipping. I contacted OCC for information on plication and after speaking with Carolyn she mentioned that I may want to do VSG instead of Plication. Now after almost making my mind up for Plication I am stuck between the 2. VSG or Plication. I have always had a bigger build from playing sports but my bmi is high due to my weight to height ratio. Im 5'5 and weigh 314 lb. What are some of your reasons for choosing one over the other and have any of you went the financing route? How did it all work out and which lender did you use? Im just trying to weigh the options before making my final decision, mixture of nerves, confusion, just ready to make a change. Thanks for any info
  8. I'm very pleased with my decision to have the VSG. I found the recovery to be a simple matter of time. I felt better and better as time went on. Mostly I was distracted from the process of recovery because I was too busy trying to figure out what I could eat then drink LOL. I have lost a total of 75 pounds and weigh 158 lbs now. I have 9 more pounds to go to meet Dr. Miranda's goal of 149 and 23 lbs to goal to meet my own personal goal. I work out 5 days a week. I run 2 miles at 5 miles per hour and walk another 1 mile on an incline. All on my treadmill. I paid to have a personal trainer at the gym. 13 - 1/2 hour sessions. I have 5 more to go. I lift weights 5 times a week for 1/2 hour a day, usually right after I run. I've upped my protein to 80 - 100 grams because I can tell that it helps my muscles feel better after I run and then I'm able to run again the next day. I learned to do this gradually, I started by walking EVERY DAY for 20 minutes on my treadmill. Then it was just faster and faster and a little farther. Now, it is like my morning coffee...gotta have it. LOL I wish I had not indulged in or "tried" to eat things like chips or drinking wine. (Note* I am a BIG wine person, always have been and I have a serious collection). I would have waited until I hit goal to avoid the empty calories. It would have made goal a lot easier. Especially because when you get close to goal you have to work harder. I think Dr. Ortiz and his entire staff were the best. I could not have asked for better care and knowledge. I'm hoping my daughter will be able to go in February. So lets share our story, ok? donna
