I'm very interested in having this surgery in TJ or Cancun. One of my concerns is what happens if there is an emergency and I have to be treated locally---for emergency surgery, for an unfill...whatever might come up. Do your insurance companies know about you being banded and will they cover costs for complications? Jodi

Susie, I'll have to look for a BMI calculator on a lap band website. Where did you have your surgery performed? I'm assuming you paid out of pocket? There is no way I can afford it so insurance would have to cover it. Jodi

Hello. I am just now considering lap band surgery. I'm 39 years old, my height is 5 ft 5 inches and I weigh 186. I try to be as active as I can with a 4-year-old daughter and 1-year-old boy/girl twins. I just can't get this weight off of me that has been on me for about 6-7 years. I play tennis every Thursday and I'm killing my joints from all this weight. I have twisted my ankle a few times too and I know it is because of the extra weight. I think my BMI is around 31 but I sure feel like it's about 40! Would I qualify for this surgery? Thanks, Jodi
