  1. I was banded on 4-3-09, wow what a wonderful experience. It is so hard to believe that today is 1 year. I love my band. I was one of those that had some problems in the beginng, but never regreted getting it. My only regret was that I didnt do it sooner. Today I am at 151# and only have 12 more to go. Since getting the band, I am no longer on medication for diabetes and my knees are some better. I still have to have a knee replacement in August, but it does not hurt as bad as it did when I was over weight. I feel so much better, have more energy and feel better about myself. My other big news is not only is it my 1 year anniversary with the band but on 4-4-09 I will also be getting married. I had hoped to be at my goal weight by the wedding, but.........its ok.........I am still proud of what I have accomplished. I just wanted to share my excitement with you all.
  2. Hey Jacklyn I don't know if you remember me, but we were banded the same day. I too have been alittle discouraged, but am happy I have lost weight. Since the band I am down 57 pounds. I was hoping to be at my goal weight by now, but.............it didn't happen. Like some of the other girls have said, we need to be happy we are not where we were a year ago. We have lost a signifant amount. Good luck and keep up the good work!
  3. It is still very early. You need to follow the diet guidelines so you dont damage your band. It is not uncommon to not have restriction yet. I did not get restriction until after my 3rd fill. Give it time, it will work.
  4. CONGRATULATIONS!! keep up the great work. The plateau's stink, but is part of life. Glad it is going well for you.
  5. Congratulations on your decision to get the band. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I love it, have had a few problems but is soooo worth it. I wish you the best of luck with your new band life.
  6. It took me 4 fills to finally have restriction. My last fill was done in december and in the last few weeks my band has REALLY tightened. These bands are so weird, never know when they are going to kick in. Give it some time. Most of the time the 1st fill does not give restriction. Hang in there you will do great!
  7. ok cool, thanks, i just figured my VCR messed up.................. thanks again Pammie
  8. I missed the last part of the biggest loser. I taped it and it shut off just as Mike stepped on the scale. Did he lose the 10 pounds that they needed? If not, who went home?
  9. I agree with Kristy, It is a good idea to eat protein first so that the lettuce will not just slide through. As for me after my last 2 fills, I am unable to eat salad. Seems like the lettuce gets stringy and will get stuck. I love them, but I will do what every I have to do to get the weight off. I could eat them just fine in the beginning. Just remember, EVERYBODY is different. Best of luck!
  10. I thought I read somewhere that the recovery house was 150.00 a day. did they charge you more than that? I am looking into having LBL soon and would be currious to know. Please keep us informed on how you are doing and whether or not you are pleased with the surgery. Congrats!
  11. How about the air flight, can we claim it also?
  12. First of all, relax, this is going to be the best experience ever. It is the best thing I ever did for ME. And.........if something should happen, I would do it all again. As far as clothing goes, I would take comfortable clothing. Do not pack much, pack lightly. You are not to lift heavy objects afer surgery. 2nd: Get a box or 2 of gas X strips and take with you. They are wonderful. 3rd: Take some tea bags and instant broth packages with you. It is cheaper to take your own rather than buy broth at the restaraunt. 4th: Don't forget ID and birth cert. or a passport if you have it. A passport is not necessary at this time, but if you already have one, go for it. That about all I have to rec. You will do great, this will be a great adventure.
  13. Well,,,,,,,,,you want positive feedback?....It was the best experience I have ever had. I work in the medical field and the clinic in Mexico is much cleaner than any hospital or clinic I have ever been to. Dr. Ortiz, Martinez, So are all wonderful. I will have to say the band and Mexico is the best thing I have ever done for myself.........NO REGRETS!!!
  14. I know my PCP warned me that I will probably have to have my gallbladder removed sometime due to a large amount of weight loss after LBS. I have not had any problems yet, but I am sure they will come. He said it is common for quick or large weight losss pt's to have problems with gallbladder and need it removed. Are you still in KC? If so, PM me. I live about 1 1/2 hours away and would love to have my LBL and gallbladder removed at the sametime, like you, that way ins would cover at least some of the bill!!!!
  15. 1. Name: Tanya 2. Location: Kansas 3. Age: 41 4. Band Date: 4-3-2008 5. Married: Not yet, getting married for the 2nd time 4-4-09 6. Children of the human or furry kind: I have 3 kids 2 girls, 19 and 13 and a boy 17, 3 soon to be step kids, girl 24, girl 18, boy 15 7. Hobby(ies): gardening and playing cards 8. Work: Nurse (LPN) 9. What was the deciding factor(s) on getting banded: Got tired of going on diets, losing weight, only to gain back the weight I lost plus more. 10. Interesting factoid: I am a grandma thanks to my soon to be step daughter. A boy 1-25-09 6 lbs 1 oz. Was a 4 week premie, so still in the hospital, but doing good. Can't wait for him to get to go home so we can hold him!!
  16. I will occ. have very very very tiny pieces of toast to mix with my egg yolk. I usually cant eat any bread, but toast sometimes will go down without sticking. You will just have to try it and see how you do. Everyone is different. You will learn what foods get stuck and which ones dont. Best of luck
  17. I agree with everybody else. It sounds more like acid reflux. If your band slips, you would not beable to keep food down at all. Call you doctor and maybe he can put you on medication for the reflux. Also do not lay down afer eating for at least an hour.
  18. Great Job. You are doing great. I think it is very easy to fall off of the ban wagon. Great Job getting back on. You need to give yourself a pat on the back. WTG
  19. I am so excited. This morning I won "larry the cable guy tickets" on the radio. I got to see and meet Larry about 3 years ago and it was awesome. I laughed so hard my cheeks hurt. I CAN'T WAIT to see him again.
  20. You look amazing. Way to go! Keep up the great work. thanks for sharing, I too like to see the before and after pics, it is very inspiring.
  21. Congratulations on hitting one of your goals. That is awesome! Keep up the great work, you are almost there.
  22. Congratulations! It is so awesome that you and your mom did this together. Is so nice to have support and to know the person is going thru the same thing as you. Best of luck to both of you!
  23. Your port is usually about an inch or so from the incision. I alway thought I felt my port, but now I think I was just feeling the scar tissue from the surgery. I doubt if your port flipped, even if it did, it would still feel the same pretty much. One side is alittle flatter, but you would still be able to feel it. I had my port flip and Dr. Ortiz told me it only happens in about 1 in 500, so I would not worry too much about it. congratulations on having your surgery, it was the best decison I ever made!
  24. Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. As you all know, it has not been easy, but is well worth it. The last 20 pounds does not want to leave me!!!! Thanks again to all MY band family!!
