  1. I have the same issue. The band does not cure our "head hunger". I too eat throughout the day and I'm not getting anywhere. I have an over eating disorder and all the band is doing is stopping me from eating too much at one sitting but an hour later I can eat again. If I didn't have the band I would be much bigger by now. Only we can stop this, its just not that easy or we would be thin
  2. I've had 4 fills, 3 done by a nurse and 1 by a doctor. They were all blind and there were no problems finding the port nor was there any pain.
  3. I was browsing the Medical Tourism website and found this list of doctors that do fills on people that had their surgery outside Canada. I have an appointment in Halifax next week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I had a nurse outside of Halifax that did my last 3 fills but she dropped off the face of the earth so now I have to try someone new. the nice thing is that he only charges $50 and she charged $150. I am a little nervous because he's fairly new at this and the nurse was great with lots of experience and even came to my house to have it done. Hopefully this will help those who have a hard time finding a fill doctor. 4. Good for you. I would never have the guts to do that, as I don't like confrantations. but I would have called the cops.
  5. I'm on facebook, can I join? you'll find me at Sue Wyse, Halifax. I'm assuming that I can find you guys and request friendship? I won't mention about the lap band to anyone so that no one get exposed
  6. Wow! I can hear the excitement inyour words. Good for you. We all have slip ups but its part of life, no one is perfect all the time. Keep up the good work!!
  7. Wow, what an experience. I have a nurse that's trained by Inamed do my fills. my 1st one was done at her house and my second fill she was in the city (she lives 1.5hrs away from me) and came to my house, talk about convenience. She feels for the port puts the needle in and finds the port very quickly. No pain. I still could use more restriction but I do have some, maybe next time it will be the magic number. She charges $150.00 but its worth it. Inamed is paying for all her expenses when she goes to their conference in Toronto, which is very reassuring. Good luck to you
  8. Greetings from Halifax, Nova Scotia. I too spent 2 days in Sand Diego. The trolley tour was great and we got to stop at difference drop off points and do some sight seeing and shopping. I was on this site for about 1 month and by the time I went it felt like I had already been there. Lots of info here, its great. The staff at the clinic are fantastic and Dr. Ortiz is sooooo good looking. I felt great after surgery and the next day we hit Revolution Ave for some serious shopping. keep reading and we are here for all your questions.
  9. I lost 80 lbs in 7 months on Atkins but thought of it as a diet so when I reached my goal I started to add the junk food which triggered my cravings and it was all down hill from there. Unfortunately I did gain most of it back but it was because I was eating too much junk and binging. I needed to make it my way of life but screwed up. During this time I was in the best shape of my life due to working out with weights and ate veggies everyday. No packaged foods. The beauty of this plan is that if you can follow the rules for the 1st two weeks you will lose all cravings and a lot of your appetite. I should consider it again, it is a more fun way to eat.
  10. It is way cheeper. The price here in Canada was $16,000 and I had it done in Tijuana for half of that. Excellent people, excellent care, excellent margaritas Good luck
  11. You shouldn't feel hungry. I put the food on my salad plate and eat what's there. I'm not hungry but I'm not stuffed either. I know personally that if I was always hungry after eating that I would start resenting the band and start binging on junk. I find that after a meal I am good for 3hrs at least before I notice the hunger or cravings kicking in. I eat slow most of the time but there are moments where my uncomfortable feeling kicks in but its too late for me to do anything about it because the food is already eaten. I need to work on this.
  12. Here in Canada the insurance companies and doctors are leaning towards the measurement of the waist instead of BMI. The theory is if you are heavy around the gut you are at a greater risk of heart disease and diabetes. i believe women should aim for no more than 32 inches and men I think its 38". So if people are really bottom heavy they are at a lower risk of heart disease than someone with a large waist. Of course I'm an apple, lots of gut but small hips and legs, just my luck.
  13. I will always try to get my protein in first and then veggies then starch, just like it was told to me originally. I haven't been eating my fruit so I guess I can have that for a snack. At this point I am hungry every 3 hours and need something to eat unfortunately a piece of fruit is not doing it at this time but I find that a little protein or cheese will keep me satisfied. I know that a lot of us get mixed messages about the eating plan so maybe the clinic needs to come out with a plan on paper and hand it out with the paper work. Most of us are confused after the initial 3 weeks.
  14. Your self control was great. Remember the key is to live like a normal "skinny person" and this includes some sweets some times. Its all about moderation and having 2 pieces sounds pretty "normal" to me. We are trying to learn how to eat in moderation and get out of the diet mode and this includes not feeling guilty if we have a piece of chocolate. I know of thin people that eat chocolate almost everday but the key is that they do not binge on food later in the night and they are aware of how much food they eat throughout the day.
  15. I emailed her because I was confused about the 1/2c of food per sitting as it says on our patient identification card. Here's what she wrote back. Hello Ms Wyse: The 1/2 cup was for the liquid diet so payients would not chug there drinks is all. Eat spinach every day eat red meat once a week only Fruit 2-3 pieces per day. Dairy low fat 2 cups per day. Grains (half of them must be whole) make the fat monosaturated. 3-5 teaspoons a day max. I guess its ok to eat more than the 1/2c, if our tummies allow it of course
  16. I e-mailed Dr. Miranda for suggestions and clarification. I just don't see how we can fit protein, veggies, starch and fruit into a 1/2 cup. Just eating salad can be a good 1.5 cups. if I tried to fit my spinach into 1/2c it would only be one leaf
  17. Hello :-h I was also a lurker before making the decision to have the procedure done. I got so much information here, before my surgery, that it felt like I had already been there . One thing this site did was put my mind at ease about going to a foreign country to have surgery.
  18. I was looking at my patient identification card and it talks about the patient only being able to eat 1/2 cup of food or 3-4oz. I don't know about the rest of you but I eat more than 1/2 cup. I've only had one fill but 1/2c is not very much. I continue to use my salad plate when eating my meals which is way smaller than the regular plate. Is this what we should be doing? Measuring out the 1/2 c? how can you get all your food groups into that small amount. If anyone has asked that question to Dr. Miranda I would like to hear her response. thanks
  19. I buy a protein product at my gym, its 5lbs and only $50. If you read the label it will tell you the nutrition breakdown. Mine has less than 2 carbs, 22g protein and 90 calories a scoop. I mix it with water or milk but my favorite is adding 1/2 a scoop to my yogurt in the am. This big bucket lasts my husband and I at least 2 months. Shop around because there is cheaper ways of getting your protein.
  20. I also had tenderness and still do at times. I started working out 1 week after surgery (no sit ups) and I would get some discomfort throughout the workout. At time I would get gassy and had to stop because I couldn't really stand up straight due to the gas pain. It's much better now and don't get gassy at the gym
