  1. Thanks so much everyone. I am back home again and feeling better each day though still walking like an (unfit) old woman. I very much appreciate your taking the time to respond and will look forward to getting to hopefully know you all a bit better as we continue on our journey together. Hope this week is a great one for you. >
  2. Thanks everyone. I am feeling much better since I wrote the post. I am to be released tomorrow night (hopefully) and my husband will be flying in tomorrow morning. My canula has been removed and I have more mobility. No, I am not at OCC, I am currently living in the middle east. There is not much support here, so I have found these forums invaluable. I was supposed to be starting a new job on Sunday, but that wont be happening now - I will need another week off at least. Its is all very embarrasing and I guess I have to blame myself for keeping the timing quite tight. Yes I was in shock! I didn't expect to have a huge scar or to be so incapacitated. Thank you all for ypou kind words.
  3. Hi All Well it has been 4 days since my op and i am still in hospital. Apparently during the laprascopy the surgeon found that my liver and an artery were lapping the stomach and he was unable to continue by laprascopy. He made an incision from sternum to navel and they completed the op. It really feels like a nightmare and I have lost faith in my surgeon. I don't know if I have been unlucky or if my surgeon was inept. I can barely move and as I flew in to have the op, have been without my family for this time. I had a caesarean when my daughter was born and it was a walk in the park in comparison. Has anyone else experienced this?
  4. Thanks for the replies everyone. I had 'tidying up' wax job the day before surgery - just feel I needed to tell you that I told the nurse that I was not interested in shaving as I suffer from razor rash - she spoke to the dr and he said OK no prb - so no shaving. The op? well not so sure, very upset but will write about that in another post...
  5. sorry - just another Q My dr is going to be using the swedish ajustable band. Does anyone else have this?
  6. Hi all I am in hospital the night before my surgery and have just been bought a pkt of disposable razors and asked to shave from mid nipple to knees!!?? I thought that went out with the ark. Did anyone else have to do this?
  7. I have noticed that many forum posters went on a liquid diet pre op. I have not been asked to do anything - just turn up the day before the surgery. Just wondering why some people were required to do this. Thanks
  8. If you had to fly somewhere for your surgery, how long after you op was it before you flew out? Thanks
  9. great - thanks everyone - didn't want to feel like I was intruding
  10. I won't be having mine done at OCC and have just realised that this is a site for OCC. Is everyone else here because they had their surgery done at OCC or are there other ringins?
  11. Great - thats reassuring. Thanks ladies.
  12. Hi All My situation is that I live in the middle east and am just about to move from one country to another within the middle east to start a new job. I am 100% sure about wanting lapband and have a tentative appointment to have the procedure. Here is the problem: The procudeure can be done on the 17th Aug I start a new job on the 24th Aug The first week of this new job will be physically easy (teacher only week) the second week will be harder (kindergarten teacher) If I dont get the procedure done now I probably wont have another chance for another 5 months and even then I would not have any more recuperation time than I do now. The next real possibility would be a year from now, and that means another year of extra stress on my joints, unhappiness with myself etc etc etc. Should I go ahead now with limited recoup time or would I be better to wait the year? thanks
  13. Hi everyone I have been told that my stay will be 3 nights - on of those being the check in pre op. I would prefer not to be away from my daughter that long so wanted to see if I could narrow that down to one night - what are your thoughts? How long was your stay?
  14. Thanks again everyone. I totally get that this is not a quick fix and that you need to work hard at it. Thing is, I feel I am working hard 'on my weight' at the moment with little reward - lose a couple of kilos then put them back on each time I get sick or have to deal with major issues - so it is not the hard work I am scared of. I have started on a cognitive therapy workbook and that is helping a little and might also help later and I am going to try working on managing my stress. I just don't want to go through this and have it fail. Glad to hear that it is mostly working out well for everyone :-)
  15. Thank you everyone for your responses. Can I just ask then....has it been easier for you since the band to stop grazing. Would you have been able to stick to the eating plan you have now before the op? Sorry about all the questions...
  16. Hi All I am considering the band but am concerned that it might not work as I am a compulsive overeater. Just wondering if anyone else was in the same boat and if so how it is working out for you. thanks Shar
