  1. I love this Doc and his office staff are great but you know what I'm paying the bill and they work for me and I guess its time for me to starting telling them what WE want.
  2. Thanks. They did take an xray the other day (flouroscope) and took a picture and the nurse showed it to the doc and he said it looked "OK" so I assume the pouch looked ok. I wonder why they just don't do the flouro everytime? They did her first fill that way and then that was it. this last one the nurse gave her .2 and then took across the hall and did the x-ray. but I want them to close it off and then back a litttle out using the flouro. It would have to be my child that was the odd ball and take forever to get to the magic spot. I'm going nuts. I see people who look totally great after 11 or 12 months and shes gotten nowhere. I guess I need to look at the big picture. This is a lifetime committment. the past year has flown by. I suppose if she would get to her sweet spot now then who knows if 12 months maybe she'll meet her goal.
  3. THANK YOU!! AT LAST THE WORD MODERATION!! My daughter is 11 months out and hasnt reached her sweet spot yet. she is at 8.2 in a 9 cc band. The doc and dietician keep asking about carbs and protien and exercise like this is her fault. BOTTOM LINE......SHE IS ABLE TO EACH TOO MUCH!! We have not been aggressive enough. They assume that at 8.2 she should be losing but sorry shes not. I'm so jealous of you. I see where my daughter could be when I look at your pics and so disoucraged that she has made almost no progress yet.
  4. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I'M GOING TO EMAIL THE NURSE PRACTICIONER RIGHT NOW AND GIVE HER THE HEADS UP SO THAT SHE IS CLEAR ON EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT DONE AT OUR VISIT. Apparently they don't see many people who take this large amout of fluid to reach the sweet spot. I have heard that the first generation Realize band can be stubbord and that some people who are small inside (if you know what I mean) take more to get to the sweet spot. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A GOOD IDEA?
  5. Well we cant really find a new doctor. I paid for a package deal...the surgery and two years of fills. That payment is difficult enough for me. I doubt if she is counting carbs, proteins, calories religiously. She is always mindful of it though. Exercise is minimal I'd say but as weird as it may sound, as she gained weight she put on tons of weight in her breasts. We are unable to find a sports bra that fits and it makes it awkward and embarrassing. I think she just have to take walking until some of that weight comes off. I had read that some of the docs in Mexico are super aggressive with the fills and get instant sweet spot under floro. He doesnt do them that way. At the advice of others, I begged and he told me to bring her back next Wednesday which would only be 2 weeks since her last fill. He is not going to be there but the nurse practioner is going to talk it all out under floro and check to see whats there and then refill her under floro. Any suggestions as to what I should ask for etc? I've had it with this. My daughter has a weight problem and apparently was never able to control her eating so if this is just going to turn into being on the adkins diet and see if that works, then I'm telling you it wont. If she was able to do this on her own, we wouldn't have went 13,000 in debt for this thing.
  6. Ok folks, here goes. My daughter had surgery in April 2008. She has the Realize band which is 9 cc. She is currenlty at 8.2 (or so they say) in her band. SHE HAS NOT REACHED HER SWEET SPOT and she is not losing weight as a matter of fact she gained some back from her initial loss right after surgery. She has had 7 fills. At one point they took a small amount out and then put it back the next month so I'm not counting that one. We did struggle to get to the doc in the months of December and January as he is three hours away and the Ohio winter was kinda bad. I emailed and begged his to go against his policy of no more than one fill a month and get aggressive here. He agreed to have his nurse practitioner take it out under floro next week and see whats there and go from there. She knows the band is there but its not helping her fill up much at all. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME. MY DAUGHTER JUST CANT BE THE ONE THAT THIS DOESNT WORK FOR. Has anyone else had this minimual weight loss and the long lenth of time to reach the sweet spot>
  7. Hi. Dont want to scare you but my daugher is at 8.2 cc in her 9 cc realize band and it NOT there yet. She is 11 months out and feeling like more of a failure than she did even before she had the surgery. She has probably had a total weight loss of like 10 pounds becuase she has been gaining. We are going next week for it to all be taken out under floro and see if she truly has that much in there. The doc and nurse kind of look at her like "oh sure" but I've seen her eat and know how much she is able to eat before being satisfied. It would probably be like 2 or 2 1/2 cups... anyone else had this? Please give me a positive word. I really need it.
  8. Hi! I'm going to give you a positive word here. I am not a band patient but the mom of one so I don't know completely where you are coming from. Listen, everyday is a new day. Whats done is done, just start today as a new day. I tried to be considerate of my daughter by not keeping bad things around but I guess you cant really expect everyone to do that. Leave the room, go for a walk, do something you enjoy. My daughter totally strugged with the liquid thing both before and after surgery and I know she cheated. Here's how I see it. If you were so totally disciplined as some people imply you should be then you probably wouldn't have needed surgery in the first place. Do the best you can. There will surely be more stuggles ahead so dont give up yet. My daughter is 11, yes 11, months out and still has not reached her sweet spot. Its been about six months or more since she lost any weight and has actually put some back on. She is at 8.2 cc in a 9 cc band and no sweet spot!! So Ithink she is feeling like you....like giving up. I begged the doc to go against his policy of no more than one fill per month. We were in last week for the .2 cc and that didn't help so he said to come in next week and they are going to take it all out under floro and see whats there and put it back. I'm sure that that information will get some people bent out of shape and they will leave me messages saying "the band is a tool" bla bla bla.... We know that. People dont seen to believe that she can't be there at 8.2 cc and so they get nasty. But believe me shes not there. Its not thats shes living on twinkies. Example. The other night for supper she ate 2 fish patties and probably about 1/2 - 3/4 cup of beans. She was perfectly comfortable doing so. Thats way more than 1/2 to 1 cup of food. She simply isn't filling up. Is she always making wise food choices? I doubt it, but she is not filling up and I believe that is the whole idea here. On a funny note, I do understand your despiration. About 17 years ago I had jaw surgery and had my mouth wired shut for six weeks!! At about three weeks into it I had cooked supper for my family and it smelled sooooo good. I remember actually trying to shove a peice of macaroni through my teeth which was nearly impossible becuase I have a splint between the teeth to hold things in place so I had to go clear back behind the very back of my mouth where there was a small hole drilled in the splint. They put there for incase you need to throw up you wont choke to death on it. I tried to push that though there and onto my tongue so I could at least taste it!! I lived on carnation instant breakfast, fruit juices and an occasional milk shake. Its funny now that I think about it but I was quite frustrated having to feed my husband and kids and not being able to eat any myself. HANG IN THERE!! YOU'LL BE FINE!
  9. Hi Steve, I am not a lap band patient but a mother of a teenager who at 18 had lap band. She was banded 4/4. I don't know your parents view on surgery for you. I am pretty sure that no insurance is going to pay for that for someone of your age. If you are self pay thats a different story. You may be able to find a doctor to do it. I would suggest that you tell your parents what you are thinking and explain why you think lap band would be a good option for you and then find a doctor. Usually they free seminars that you can go to to educate you and your parents so you can make a decision. I need to mention to you too that its not always a lot of fun and its not always easy. My daughter is struggling with finding her "sweet spot" and I am quite frustated to becuase I am paying out of pocket for the surgery. There will be sacrefices. Keep that in mind. I admire you for being so mature and realizing what the efffects of being overweight are. =D>
