  1. I just got back from TJ. My band surgery was yesterday morning. I have to say that other than little stiffness (like a charleyhorse feeling) I feel great! I was banded with 4 other people. Everyone felt good except one young girl who had a hard time getting liquids down. Several of us (those who weren't traveling very far) decided to go back home today. The woman who was traveling back to the east coast stayed until tomorrow. Honestly, this surgery is very easy (at least it was for me!). The hardest part, in my opinion, will be sticking to a liquid diet for 3 weeks, but I am determined to be successful at this. These doctors and their support staff are excellent and very, very caring.
  2. Switched my date to June 28. Is anyone else scheduled for June 28? I will be there alone most of the time.
  3. Changed my date to June 28. Anyone else for that date?
  4. Hi, I am having surgery on June 29. Anyone else scheduled for that date? I would love to know! Janis
  5. Hi, I haven't been banded yet, but I went with my daughter when she was. She was able to travel back to Las Vegas the day after surgery, and did great, but I think you might need a day or two to recuperate from the combination of the surgery and the trip to the east coast. You might want to skip work on Monday, rest up, and go back on Tuesday. Just my opinion....but if you are young, the trip might not knock you out like it does me.
  6. Has anyone been banded in Cancun? I went with my daughter when she was banded by Dr. Ortiz in TJ. I am considering banding for myself, and was wondering if anyone has used Dr. Ortiz in Cancun.
  7. Hi, I just got back from accompanying my daughter to Tijuana to get her lapband, and I can tell you that the experience far exceeded our expectations. Dr. Ortiz, Dr. Martinez, and the rest of their team are wonderful, caring professionals. The surgical center is clean and well staffed, and my daughter was up and walking around about 2 hours after her procedure was finished. Mrs. Ortiz (Dr. Ortiz's mother) works as the patient facilitator, and couldn't do enough for us. She took us for the pre-ops, and to the surgi-center, and came back last night to take me back to the hotel. She is a lovely lady. My daughter and the other two women who got banded yesterday all did so well, we were all able to head home today. I would say the only slight problem we had was with the language barrier. All of the doctors, the staff at the office, and Mrs. Ortiz speak English perfectly, but a few of the nurses at the surgi-center don't. I don't speak a word of Spanish, and my daughter only understands and speaks a little. Although sometimes it was hard to communicate with some of the nurses, there was always someone available who could help with the translating. I would recommend Dr. Ortiz without any hesitation!
