  1. Day one went great. Day two we went to town. I was good all morning. Soy milk carrot juice and isopure. MMMMM until I ran out!!! by 3 I was starving. so I took my kids out to Mongolian BBQ which is one of those places where we can load up a bowl with meat veggies noodles and sauces and they cook it on a round grill right in front of us. So I figured if I was going to break the PT I was going to do it with just meat and veggies (no noodles) which really are my favorite. So I ate lapband style. But real food. And we had leftovers of the same for dinner. Man I woke up HUNGERY this morning day 3!!!!!!!!! YUCK!! I am just going to call it quits for this week because I know the weekends are impossible. BUT NOT GIVING UP! MONDAY I WILL GET A FRESH START AND I WILL SUCCEED IN THE 5 DAY PT.
  2. thank yo for this post! I have been looking at what my options are. When we get to our target weight we have earned a little LIFT. I have lost just 20lbs since surgery and EVERYTHING is drooping big time! my boobs are even different sizes! HOW WIERD!!! I will need Tummy tuck Lipo to make it a smooth transition and Augmentation/lift. Then I should look human again.
  3. That is right the body is an awesome machine created to survive! It is frusterating but dont worry about weight loss untill after your first fill. But it is really important to get lote and LOts OF pROTIEN. mY dR. NURSE SAID 40-60% OF YOUR CALORIES. This will help your metabolism rise. We have to eat calories or the matabolism shuts down. So eat potien (CHEW CHEW CHEW) I like ISOPURE which is a drink that costs me $3.25 @ my Dr. Office but it is worth it! It has 40grams of protein and NO carbs. Simple carbs will mess your body up. Dont forget the water! work Hard to get 64oz- 8 glasses- this will help flush your system. WATER< PROTIEN< EAT AND WALK<<<<< That is how to break a plateau.
  4. I already can feel the difference after the PT has started. This morning I drank 16 oz right down before feeling full. by 3pm this afternoon I had the same satisfied feeling after an 8oz cup. So I know I had stretched it out grazing all weekend. I am glad I am doing the 5 day pt to get back on the ball. here is the total nutrition facts at the end of today. I drank ALOT of soymilk (yes with a little creamer) Isopure, and a small dinner splurge(3 bites of tune Noodle cassaroll) that really threw of my carb count! 5. UGGHHH! I feel so sluggish. We went to a family BBQ with some friends of ours stayed up late, watched fireworks and ATE ATE ATE! I feel So tired, sluggesh, just plum bushed! My husband made me promise no counting or measuring, just have fun! OK, I am relying on my lapband now! yuck, I slimed for the first time in weeks if not longer. I only have 1.5 cc fill and next to no restriction. I ate more than I thought I was capable of! Just thru the day of visiting and snacking when dinner came everyone dished up for dinner and I was not hungery but because every one else was having dinner they were like arent you going to have dinner! I was like uhhhh, yea. SHOULDNT HAVE DONE IT! I tried to just sit and let the one corn shelled pork taco settle and it didnt work. SLIM! atleast I was able to make it to the bathroom without drawing attention to myself! Ok so we all mess up. This morning I woke up HUNGERY, I hope I didnt slip the band or something. I have been eating by measure and stopping when I was satisfied this week and it has been working! I weighed in before we left and it said 221!!! yea!!! Broke the plateau. Lost 19 lbs since surgery. I guess the band is teaching me a lesson in what not to do! So I want to se what I have to do to repair the damage...... 5 day pouch test here I come! But I need to tweek it to be..... HIGH protein (40%of calorie intake minimum) LOW Carb. (30% of calorie intake Max.) and DRINK DRINK DRINK- 1000 calories and 64 oz of water. This is what the nutritionist at my surgeons office recemends The nurse at my fill dr.s office is very blunt I love it! I told her I had restricted my calories thru willpower to keep loosing weight with no fill and she plainly said, " that was stupid!" and we started talking about metabolism and protien. so I have a challenge set in front of me. But the liquid diet will flush my system and condition my pouch to function properly. And get me off of grazing! If the pouch capacity hasnt reduced by the time the 5 day PT is done I will get a fill appt scheduled. But I hesitate getting a fill too soon because I HAVE to eat about 1000 calories or so to keep my metabolism going or it tanks and I cant loose weight! 4th of July Holiday Recovery- Starting monday- 5 day PT round #3!!!!! Anyone want to join me?
  6. My 2 cents is in blue so no one get confused. So why do we hit those nasty plateau's??? That's one reason it's almost always easiest to lose weight at the start of a diet, and harder later on, Kimball says: "When you are very overweight your metabolism is already running so high that any small cut in calories will result in an immediate loss." Then, when you lose significant amounts of body fat and muscle, your body needs fewer calories to sustain itself, she says. That helps explain why it's so easy to regain weight after you've worked to lose it. "If two people both weigh 250 pounds, and one got there by dieting down from 350 and the other one was always at 250, the one who got there by cutting calories is going to have a slower metabolism," says Yanagisawa. "That means they will require fewer calories to maintain their weight than the person who never went beyond 250 pounds." WHAT TO DO... Eat More, Burn Better Of course, the diet advice we'd all love to hear is "Eat more and lose more weight!" But what really works is "Eat more often, and you'll lose more weight." Small, but frequent, meals help keep your metabolism in high gear, and that means you'll burn more calories overall. YEA! this is what we have all wanted to hear! here is a great link on revving up the metabolism... http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/guid...tabolism?page=2 and here is some info I have gleaned from it. ""When you put too many hours between meals, your metabolism actually slows down to compensate," says Kimball. If you then eat a huge meal -- at the same time your metabolism is functioning as if you're starving -- your body wants to hold on to every calorie. While this won't make much difference on an occasional basis, Kimball says, make it a way of life and it can get harder to lose or maintain weight. Kimball's advice is borne out by the findings of a study that was presented at the 2005 annual meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine. Researchers from Georgia State University reported that when athletes ate snacks totaling about 250 calories each, three times a day, they had greater energy output then when they didn't snack. The study also found that snacking helped the athletes eat less at each of their three regular meals. The final result was a higher metabolic rate, a lower caloric intake, and reduction in body fat."" What GREAT news this is for US bandsters! I was taking things all wrong. I was practicing "self control" all day long only eating when my belly button was eating my back bone! GROWLING "Hungery, FEED ME" So to me lesson one is eat every 2-4 hours when I am feeling hungery It is ok. NO MORE GUILT FOR SNACKING! this was verified also on 2 other sites listed below... http://health.msn.com/fitness/articlepage....entid=100096731 they said.... " 3. Eat. It may sound crazy to those trying to lose weight by severely restricting their daily caloric intake, but the problem with this old school of thought, explains Michigan dietician Julie Beyer, is that it actually slows metabolism. “Every cell of the body is like a flashlight bulb,” she explains. “When our bodies don’t get enough food, or fuel, every cell burns less brightly.” Recent studies show that eating smaller meals every three to four hours aids metabolism and weight loss. 4. Ditch the sugar. Of course, you still have to make good choices about what you eat. “When you eat sugar you throw your metabolic switch into fat storage mode,” says Lieberman, who suggests a predominately low glycemic index diet, meaning foods that, unlike sugars, are broken down gradually to help maintain an even blood-sugar level. 5. Don’t skip breakfast. It’s a fact that people who eat a healthy breakfast are skinnier than people who don’t. And try to think outside the box. A breakfast bowl of vegetables and brown rice is a great way to kick-start your metabolism for the day. 6. Include hot foods. If Mexican and Thai are favorites, you’re in luck. “Spicy food that has hot peppers in it appears to boost metabolism,” Lieberman says. 7. Drink green tea. “There are unhealthy things that can boost your metabolism, like a really strong cup of coffee, or nicotine, but I would never say go have a cigarette!” says Michelle Streif, a personal trainer in Nebraska. Nor overdo it on caffeine, which also has undesirable side effects. Instead, go for green tea, says Lieberman, which is known to stimulate metabolism longer and more effectively than coffee. 8. Don’t forget H2O. Staying well hydrated is essential to flushing the body of toxic byproducts that are released when fat is burned. Cold water may also give your metabolism at least a small boost because energy is required to heat the body." So what do we eat?? check this site out... http://www.ecosalon.com/boost-metabolism/ THis is a great site giving us the facts about PROTEIN! http://www.wellnessresources.com/tips/arti...ps_weight_loss/ A little bit from it. I am glAD i LOVE EGGS! " Eating two eggs for breakfast has been shown to boost weight loss by 65%, compared to the same amount of calories from carbohydrates – like a bagel." "The amount of quality protein in your diet is the single most important calorie that influences your metabolic rate, favorably influencing weight loss. Quality protein also helps you sustain muscle during weight loss, improve muscle fitness, improve immunity, improve antioxidant function, build HDL cholesterol, and enhance insulin and leptin function – all of which contribute toward optimal weight management efforts over time." These are some great facts! I hope this helps others on thier Lapband journey as it has me. Good Night.
  7. today I am going to take Step one in boosting my metabolism. INCREASE my calories! Yep I said it INCREASE! My personal goal is to EAT 1000 calories a day. YEA now the types of calories... protien as much as possible. I have been keeping track of my intake and out go on Livestron and I really like it. here is the link. http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/us...when=2009-06-30 I am a visual person and I really like the chart on the right hand side telling me how the calories break down. This is my goal today.
  8. Hunger pangs are normal. Matter of fact I was afraid of PBing and slipping something up at first so I didnt eat and the hungerpangs were so bad they were like intense cramping. Eat girl! your body needs nutrition! just make sure you feed it nutrition, not pizza. LOL MMMMMMMM The lapband is a tool that will Help you to eat smaller amounts and fell full, its goal is not so you dont eat at all. eating is part of life, but with the lapband we no longer are a slave to it. With the right adjustments you will see your mini meals lasting you longer and longer, first you will be hungery every 2 hrs or so. the goal 4hrs. It takes time to find that balance. follow the drs orders. I use he broth to make some great egg flower soup. YUMMMM
  9. This is what I noticed about Tj also, although a little pushy everyone REALLY wanted to help. I was always with a bilangual person and Found the work ethic there to be a breath of fresh air. I think the media makes TJ sound bad but it is really not. Ofcourse I went there for medical pourposes and was not looking for trouble. then again if you want to find trouble just go to LA. lol
  10. That is so awesome! For all those still trucking ONEDERLAND HER WE COME!
  11. This seems to be the hardest BAD habit for me too kick too! eating REALLY REALLY SLOW doesnt come naturally for me and it is hard to remember sometimes. The it is to late and the band reminds me good that I was not paying attention. WATER is the 2nd thing for me. Filling up with 64 oz of water is so hard! I Just look at it and cant into it. Flavoring helps but the sugar is bad. just have to find a happy middle and hope for the best sometimes. I have been needing to set the timer to remind me to stop and drink water, if soymilk and popsicles count I could be closer than I think LOL I have heard the last of protien has that fatigued affect on alot of people, it does on me. YUCK I didnt realize we needed to got 60 grams of protien, I thought 40 grams was good.
  12. I think this is common and I too have falled into this trap. I eat between 600-800 calories a day. I could easily eat more but I have been on the 5 day PT the last 2 weeks - weekends. My husband is home until after the 4th of July which means it will be impossible to stick to liquids all day until my protien dinner. I will do the best I can to eat healthfully and I will LISTEN to the band when It says WHOA no more food. But NO 5 day pouch test this week. This will be a great chance the stretch my metabolism, focus on protien, and see what "normal lapband living" is like. I know it is not being on a liquid diet 5/7 all year.I will report back with my findings.
  13. Ok everyone, Lapband takes care of the intake of calories just why does our bodies greedily hold on to every calorie that enters our mouths???? METABOLISM!!!!!! I am on a bit of a rant here but I for one am sick of this sluggish metabolism that is insistant to "Survive" thru this "STARVATION period" it seems to think it is in. I am going to make it my personal goal to find a way to get in enought of the right kind of calories and the right activities to beat this Ol' body at its own game! First I will learn what the metabolis is, how it works, and how to get it to BURN BURN BURN UP THIS FAT I have successfully stored away in my time of plenty. I also need to learn how does the lapband effect the metabolism. With this knowledge I will see success. You wil too!!!!!! Also, my husband is home until after the 4th of July which means it will be inpossible to stick to liquids all day until my protien dinner. I will do the best I can to eat healthfully and I will LISTEN to the band when It says WHOA no more food. But NO 5 day pouch test this week. This will be a great chance the stretch my metabolism, focus on protien, and see what "normal lapband living" is like. I know it is not being on a liquid diet 5/7 all year. I will report back with my findings.
  14. 5 weeks post op and I had to have a second surgery because the port had turned to the point where it was impossible to get to to fill. So far I have paid $100 in transportation for 3 trips to the Surgeon, $415 surgeon fees and I finally have my first fill of 1.5 cc. I didnt realize the lapband was going to be so expensive to maintain but thru it all I still feel it is totally worth it! Since the fill I have had some weird nautious spells. After I drink water, soup or whatever it goes down fine but shortly after i start to feel sickly, lightheaded kind of dissy, and I break out in a sweat! totally wierd kindof like a very carsick feeling. It goes away with some deep breathing and a little bit of time. Has anyone else experienced this? what causes it? I have lost 16lbs in 5 weeks. Eventhough I have little restriction I am loosing weight because I decided to partake in the 5 day pouch test monday thru friday until I have reached the all elusive "Sweet Spot". I refuse to gain weight thru this "bandster hell" My family is very supportive, my inlaws are not and I WILL NOT allow then to think even for a second that this is again another waist of time and money. I have spent so much thru the years trying to Battle Obesity on my own! With the lapband I will not fail. MOVING FORWARD! The 5 day PT get a little easier each time. And I really Like fish so this is a great one for me. Has anyone heard of ISOPURE??? I have heard it is the BEST protien drink with 40 grams of protien 0 carbs in a 20oz bottle. But it is $3.?? per bottle at the Dr.s Office. Does anyone know of a cheaper place to get ISOPURE??
  15. First fill was again a bust!!!!! port is turned pointing to my left shoulder. I had hoped he could hit the spot but it just wasnt working. SO I HAVE TO HAVE THE PORT RE POSITIONED!!! UGGGG So now I dont know which way to go. My options are to do it here in the states, I have no Idea how much that will cost.... Or back to my surgeon. He said he will fix it and fill it for free I just have to get there. So I am looking at getting the passport- $45, Plane ticket thru Orbitz.com- $355 , and I am checking out one nights stay in a hotel while In TJ. So far it is a $400 bill but that really sound fare to me because if I were to get a fill here in the states or $150 plus the $450 for the flouro (this was just raised) then I would be totalling $600 so financially Mexico still makes sence. My issue is the kids!!!! I have 3 and the youngest is 18 months. Last time I left he developed and really bad fit throwing habit and we have been working thru it. FOr the most part it is fine (but he has is moments) maybe I can get him a passport and take him with, but when I am in the surgery who would care for him, Everone would be a stranger! I think if I can get grandma to watch him and My girls who are 9 years old that would be easiest. But my mom lives in New york and My mother in law doesnt want to be involved with my lapband. She doesnt believe in it. So I havent asked my husband is home on the weekend.. I will have to ask my Dr. if he is willing to work on the weekend. So I guess I have more questions than answers...
