Wow! Is that what most people aim for? I still learning, but I do recall Dr. Miranda telling me 30 grams of protein a day, and that excess protein can also turn into fat like carbs (which was surprising to me).

Shelby, That makes complete Sense! Hopefully people aren't just blind, but trying to be sensitive to a weight issue instead!

I am down almost 40lbs and many sizes in about a month, but no one has said anything to me yet, accept my husband - but he doesn't really count.

Weirdly enough, I was CRAVING tuna fish with celery and green onions. So I had that the first few days!

I was banded on September 8th, and am just now able to eat!!! No more liquids..WooHoo! Anyway, my question is: when I do eat, am I allowed to drink with it? I know I am not supposed to once I have a fill, but is the same true for now before my first fill? Any info would be most excellent! Thank you, Jessica

To be completely honest, I actually asked the same question to my patient coordinator. She said they Have NEVER had a death. Also, I went to a local seminar at a hospital near me (in Atlanta) regarding the Lap-band, and they also said that deaths directly from the Lap-band are almost none. They said they have never had a case or heard of one. I left my twin two-year olds, and was afraid to death, but I was more worried about the flight than the actual procedure, once I had read about Dr. Ortiz! He is the best!

Dave, What a great post! My experience was very similar to yours. My mom is a RN as well, and she was floored that Dr. SO helped her put on her blue footies over her shoes. Everyone exceeded expectations! Unbelievable really!

Are the discounts ONLY for those new locations listed?? or is that for anywhere? I just made my first appointment today and it is soooo expensive. I also found a surgeon that Dr. Ortiz trained in Atlnata, and he takes my insurance, so I may opt for that. I would love to know!

I had been researching it for a long time before even contacting the OCC. When I finally did, I was 100% sure I was doing this for me and my twoddlers, and our family. I had everything booked and financed - then I told my mom like 9 days before I had to leave. She was surprisingly supportive, maybe because she knew I had decided 100%...OR maybe because the option was either support it or don't but I'm going with or without your support! LOL Anyway - the experience was amazing, and I have to thank poor Lori for puting up with all my questions! She is great too! In four weeks I have already lost almost 40lbs. WooHoo! Good Luck! You will do amazingly well if you set your mind to it.

I was banded two weeks ago, and we had dinner at the Hotel Mexican restaurant. I had lost more than was required for surgery, so didn't fear that I would be turned away. However, I was seriously, happily satisfied with their grilled Caesar salad! I also had nill to no gass issues after surgery as well, which I was so thankful for!

I was told that a very acute/sharp pain could indicate an infection, so you may want to see a doc and get some antibiotics to be safe. I hope everything is okay, and your pain goes away soon!

I hear ya! Twins did me in...my tummy will NEVER be the same! LOL

I watched it last night for the first time, and really liked it until the end where they had to vote someone out! I was upset, because these people show the world their personal baggage, make a huge commitment, and are seen half naked in front of millions. . . Then only to be voted out! yuck..I was very sad for the person voted out, even tho she seem to carry on with her commitment. I just thought after all the emotional & physical endeavors, they should have been able to stay longer. That was just my first impression. Like I said, Last night was the first time I have ever seen it.

I am so sorry to hear of your frustrations....Does your doctor do the barium like the OCC shows in their videos? To me, that seems to be the key, and having someone experienced watch the barium flow through the band, etc. I watched this today, and found it pretty informational!
