  1. Hi there, I have been experiencing a burning pain in my mid-section several hours after eating (3 different times now over 1 month). I was banded Sept. 3rd and had my first fill on Oct.8th. The first time I experienced this I had eaten sushi w/ wasabi. The wasabi didn't seem all that spicy so I ate it with each bite. 20 minutes later I thought I would die! Then, yesterday afternoon, I had some pineapple fried rice with sweet Thai chili sauce. After I got home, over an hour later, I felt a lot of burning discomfort! I had not had any problem eating and was fine driving home too. Tonight I had cheese and crackers for dinner- (sweet Thai chili flavored cheese) and a lean cuisine w/ a little pepper jack mixed in. That was at 7:30. It is now nearly midnight and I have been awoken by the familiar burning pain and nausea too . I am guessing that this means I must now avoid spicy foods. How sad for me! Can anyone offer any advice or share similar experiences with me? As a newbie, I'm a little scared.
  2. Ross Dress for Less has a similar pair for $25. I bought them and love em...but they are not what you'd call fashionable. At least the ones at Ross aren't too pretty.

If you have a Walmart near you there are these little vials of Body Fortress Whey Protein "shots" in the dieting section. 26 grams of protein and 110 cals. Fruit punch flavored and I add them to water twice daily and it really takes the food craving away! Just be careful to not go over 2/day as too much protein turns to belly fat! But these work for the 21 day liquid diet post-op!
  4. You'll make it Tag! I have to share that my one thing that helped the most pre-op was sugar snap peas. I bought them by the bag and ate about 12 - 15 oz a day! They are green so they meet the diet requirement and don't require any dressing and are so helpful for snacking when you just need to be eating! In fact I ate so much that a bunch of people at my office started eating them too and we loved it. Also- if you have a Walmart near you there are these little vials of Body Fortress Whey Protein "shots" in the dieting section. 26 grams of protein and 110 cals. But these also work for the 21 day liquid diet post-op!
  5. My head hunger is the only real issue I have faced when things that others are eating have smelled/looked super good. I have been in a couple situations where I watched laongingly while others enjoyed their food...and I nursed my soup... not fun, but that's why I generally go home straight from work and try to keep up on my liquids (esp w/ protein) which is the major helper!

  6. I have not felt weak exactly...but I have tired earlier than I expected. For instance I used to walk a 1.5 miles each afternoon with a group of gals. We started a shorter walk..and I still had to rein everybody in and head back eariler than I expected..I was feeling peaked. But again..I [pay super attention to my body and try to anticipate things before they become problems.

  7. My one dirty lil secret was that last Friday I was cooking chicken for my family and it smelled SO GOOD... finally I took a tiny bite, chewed it like no tomorrow and then spit it out...twice. It was definitely worth it. But I do try to not do that. I just want to be successful and so I really control my envireonment and am pretty frank with folks about why I do what I do...

  8. Yep. 10 days. My main issue has been head hunger. I have been adding these whey protein "shots" to my clear liquids and they have 26 gs of protein and that helps ENORMOUSLY! Sometimes I ask my hubby or sister if I can just smell their food...but I make the effort to NOT put myself in situations where I am tempted... It's all about control.

  9. OKay so you've had the band about 10 days now, right? Are you hungry? Weak? How long did it take until you were back at work and normal activities?

  10. hey, it's Marla. How ya doing?

  11. on tylenol only and it's not so bad! Thank goodness for that! :)

  12. Well I was also super nervous before I got the band, but once I landed in San Diego, all my anxiety went away and I am SO PLEASED with myself. I am still swollen but can't wait to go to the doc's tomorrow for a weigh-in and check-up....I probably could rest more as I have have been feeling so good that I may have overdone it a bit yesterday. Otherwise, I am happy!!

  13. I got it last Fri, the 3rd...today is my first full day w/out the pain meds so I was NERVOUS when I woke up at 5 am...lay in bed for a while, but when I finally got up, it was no big deal at all! I am excited, yesterday I mainly had head hunger but I use the powdered Special K Protein stuff in water and haven't been really hungry. Also, I walked A TON after surgery so had little proble...

  14. So, when did you get your band? HOw was it? I just scheduled mine for October 21. I'm kinda nervous. Are you starving? Weak? Sore? Or are you just super excited? Fill me in on your experience, please.

  15. resting at home...still on clear liquids- kinda boring....but so happy I have my band!
