  1. Hi everyone!! I am fresh out of the OR, so excuse me if my typing stinks. My surgery took about 25 minutes, I was in the recovery bed for about an hour, and now I am up walking aroud. Dr. Ortiz stuck his head in while I was getting up to walk and was amazed at how fast I came out! I don't feel terrible...maybe like I was punched in the stomach a few times, but it is getting better. Just wanted to let anyone who is on the edge about coming here know - DO IT!!! The staff is great and I know I am on my way to the best life I can live!! Melissa
  2. I feel your pain!! When Dr. Miranda told me I had to lose 48 pounds before surgery I flipped out!! I mean, if I could lose weight like that, then why would I need Lap-Band, right? Well, I have to say it's not easy, but it is do-able. I am still 39 days out from my surgery, and I have lost 22 of my 48 pounds. I am doing the same diet as you. Find a few flavors of protein powder you like and stock up on lean cuisines. I have learned to love sugar free jello, and when I get super hungry, I eat a salad. I think pre-op diet is as much about changing the way you look at eating as it is about losing weight and shrinking the liver. Do some soul searching and see if you can find out WHY you eat. And just remember, you can do this!!! It is the first step to your new life. Once you see those pounds start dropping, you will be so pumped to keep going! Good luck and welcome to the family!
  3. So it has been 7 days yesterday and I was down 6 pounds. Today they are having a pizza party in the lunch room, and here I am at my desk with my lean cusisine!! LOL. I never thought I would have the self control, but I am learning about my relationship with food, and even though I feel a little like I broke up with a boyfriend, I know that boyfriend was no good for me...makes my lean cuisine smell delicious!! Thanks again for everyone's support. You guys are awesome. Melissa
  4. Thanks for everyone's words of encouragement! I had a little party when I got on the scale and had lost one pound...it's the first step, and I know if I celebrate the small victories I will keep myself motivated.
  5. Thanks for the encouragement! I just keep telling myself that I can do this. You are doing great!! I can't wait till you are banded and see how great you do then!

  6. Well, first let me start by saying I am so excited!! I have been thinking about having the LapBand for 5 years, and I have finally made the commitment to do it. That being said...I talked to Dr. Miranda yesterday and she wants me to lose 48 pounds before my December 28th surgery date. That is 12 weeks from today, and it is a little discouraging. Don't get me wrong...I am going to work my rear end off to get there. But what if I don't make it? Will they turn me away? I am 5'4" and currently 369 lbs - which means my BMI is 63. AARGH!! I can't believe I just typed that!! I know that's a really high BMI, but if I could just drop 50 pounds like nothing, I wouldn't be getting this surgery done. I'm really not trying to sound whiny, or like I don't want to try - I am just looking for a little insight. I satrted the diet she prescribed this morning, and I have been drinking water like it's going out of style!! Well, at least if they turn me away I will know I tried!!
