  1. Marie, My surgery was only one month ago, but I feel so much better already. For starters, I feel better about MYSELF...I am proud of myself for taking this huge step and deciding to take control of my body. Healthwise, I haven't noticed any wheezing, from my asthma. I used to wheeze after walking up the steps. I believe my blood sugars are down. I was forced to watch what I ate/drank ten days prior to my surgery. After my surgery, while still in the hospital, the nurses would check my blood sugar two times a day. They never once said that my levels were high. Everybody is telling me that I look different. When I tell them what I've done, they tell me that my face looks thinner. My girls just told me yesterday that they can notice that I've lost weight. They say my legs are smaller!! I've already ordered some new clothes...my size 20 jeans are big! I guess that losing 25 pounds will do that! If I can just make it to summer, I won't worry about clothes until the end of August (I drive a school bus). I can live in our pool over the summer and not worry about how big my clothes are!!! I hope this helps... Don't hesitate, girl...book your surgery date!!!
  2. Well, I had my surgery done one month ago today. I finally got a chance to come back to this site. One week after my surgery, my mom fell down a set of very steep steps...and broke her neck in two places and her back. She is finally in a rehabilitation center. They are expecting her to make a full recovery. Things could have ended so very differently so we are thankful for every day with her. I will NEVER get the picture, of her lying at the bottom of the steps, out of my mind though. I've lost 25 pounds thus far. I feel that I have so much more energy. The diarrhea, that I experienced throughout the ten day pre-surgery phase, continued for quite some time. The protein shakes that I chose were loaded with way too much fiber for my system to handle. After my surgery, they had me switch to regular Carnation Instant Breakfast and that worked much better. I returned to work after two weeks of my surgery. I drive a school bus and have a need to have something in my mouth. Since gum is not allowed anymore, and the Life Savers which I had been sucking on had sugar in them, I switched to sugar free Life Savers. The diarrhea continued. I also had TERRIBLE gas/gas pains. I believed this was due to the drinks I had chosen...Arizona Diet Iced Tea (made with Splenda), G2, ...and other artifically sweetened drinks. I cut those out but the diarrhea continued. I never bothered to read the label on the back of the Life Savers bag, "Excess consumption may have a laxative effect." I stopped the Life Savers, and now I feel SO MUCH better!!
  3. Well, Tuesday is my big day. Today and tomorrow are my clear liquid days. I've been trying to stay busy so I went on a cleaning spree all weekend. I've been feeling pretty good. I called the Weight Management department at my hospital last week. I think it was Thursday. They told me to stop the shakes. I did and wasn't sick anymore. I just want Tuesday to come so I can get this over with. I have to admit that I am NOT looking forward to starting those shakes again.
  4. Well, apparently I spoke too soon. JUST made it home from work and it started again. Now I am clueless. I used a different shake and that didn't solve my problem. Is this normal??? Should I do anything different or add anything? I'm really tired of living with this. Please tell me this WILL stop after my surgery. I keep thinking that this will continue for the rest of my life.....
  5. Lindsay, I will post more to your post later...but, yes, I have been taking Immodium (at least I did on Tuesday and Wednesday). I am a school bus driver...so those pills are the ONLY thing that got me through my routes!!! As I posted a minute ago, I did change the protein shake brand...this one is AWESOME...and it seems to do much better for me.
  6. I am on my way back to work, but wanted to post beforehand... Five days until my surgery!!! The protein shakes that I was doing (Transitions...purchased from my doctor's office) is what I believe was making me so sick. I talked to the dietician and she told me to substitute dinner in place of a protein shake. So I've been doing chicken or fish for dinner, plus fresh steamed green beans. I've changed brands of protein shakes as well. I'm happy to report that as of this moment, I'm not sick today! The other day I was praying for death...but now I KNOW I can do this. And with only five days to go, well, I'm pretty excited!
  7. Lindsay, The diarrhea is my biggest problem. I never dreamed this would happen like this. Do you think a soy based protein would change how I am feeling???
  8. The shake I had this morning was Special K. It contains 18g of sugars. I do have another brand (Transitions) that has only 2g. I think I will not drink the Special K anymore. But I have the diarrhea even with drinking water.
  9. I have lost 12.5 pounds since the liquid diet started. I can tell you exactly how this was done...by being in the bathroom. I talked to the dietician yesterday. She told me to still have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, but to have a protein and vegetables for dinner with NO carbs. Chicken and broccoli/cauliflower never tasted so good! But...I'm still running to the bathroom. Even water sends me running. What can I do??? The dietician does not understand what is making me do this. Now my new fear is that I will continue to be sick after this surgery. It does get better, doesn't it??? I came home from work this morning and just slept on the couch as I don't know what else to do. I can hear my stomach rumbling and I have to go back to work at 2:00. There are no bathrooms as I do my job. This is awful...I found myself crying before because I am so frustrated. I've come this far...and am just one week away...but I am truly questioning this due to this stupid liquid diet.
  10. My doctor has me on a strictly liquid diet. I'm not liking this at the present time. But I know I have to do it. Does this liquid diet get ANY easier after a few days??? I have SUCH a headache...
  11. Today I started my liquid diet. I have to do this for ten days. I am so hungry...my stomach keeps growling! How do I make it through these ten days without losing my mind? I am so excited to have this surgery. I hope to get off of my blood pressure medicine; I hope that my asthma clears up; and I hope that my sugar goes down. I am not on any meds for the sugar, as my doctor believes it will go down after my surgery. I have not been thin for so long...I don't know what to expect when I lose weight. I am 240 pounds and hope to get down to 160...or possibly even 150. These goals are realistic, aren't they?? I'd appreciate hearing from people who have have lapband surgery...
