  1. I had my surgery June 16th and I think I could have enjoyed a bit of sightseeing on the 3rd day, but it would have to have been gentle, no carrying children, easy paced with rests. I felt an improvement each day for several days. I followed the liquid regimen as prescribed for the first 3 weeks and was very ready for regular meals at 21 days! I've just come home from 4 days of motorcycle touring with my husband and several other couples. An annual event for us and great fun, but 4 days with every meal a party in a restaurant was a challange. I was very pleased with how easy it was to follow the bandster rules until the last meal together which was an expensive smorg (suggest avoid those). Next year I'll stick to my guns and skip the smorg. Just my opinion, but your and my weight loss effort is not a game or contest to be played by someone else's set of rules. It is our life and health and we are doing what we believe is necessary. The LapBand is not just an easy way out. It is a tool that will help if we cooperate with it. I wish you the best!! Also you decide who needs to know and when. On my motorbike tour some friends knew and I told them that I didn't want it to be the topic of discussion because we are all out to have a great time. And we did and I did!
  2. I am back home in Canada after my LapBand procedure with Drs. Ortiz and Martinez. I would like to say that every aspect of the experience lived up to what was promised. Some things that especially impressed me were: Being picked up and dropped off whenever I needed to be anywhere right from the airport and back again. I felt very thoughtfully cared for! All of the care providers were wonderful including the nutritionist, nurses, and office personel. They took time to explain everything and answer questions. Every medicine was explained. Luis was kind. Mrs. Ortiz is so energetic, happy and friendly. It is nice to have others booked for surgery on the same day.... so comforting to have someone to visit with who is experiencing the same momentous occasion. The hotel Lucerna is lovely, airy, with pools and palm trees. The staff there were very helpful and friendly. There were computers in the lobby that I could buy cards for (I bought two day cards) and be in touch with everyone at home. And then driven back to the airport with the calm patience of gentleman Jim. Phone numbers and email addresses of the doctors and hospital were provided and I was encouraged to call if any concerns, and Dr. Ortiz was very adamant that he would hope I come back for at least my first fill and Checkup at approx. 6 wks. That would definitely be my first choice if I can.
  3. Interesting question. I wonder if anyone has made a study LapBand results for different body types.
  4. Thanks for posting after Hanna's procedure. With great support from Mom she is blessed! I am so happy for her. My procedure with Dr. Ortiz is later this month and you can imagine how I feel. I would love to hear from more people who have been banded over the years. I imagine the reason that they don't post too often is that they are enjoying their new lease on life and not looking back. But I'd sure love to hear from them. Thanks again for taking the time!
  5. Hi Doris, After reading your posts I was wondering Are you getting a fill or an unfill. I am being banded in 3 weeks and I was curious about the unfill. I see that you have lost 44 pounds. You must be pleased. Congrats!
  6. Hi, I am booked for surgery next month, so I sure don't have any inside info, but I'm guessing that the new directive (no mushies) is because it would be too easy at that time of first hunger, 2-3 weeks after surgery, to accidentally eat with old habits ( too much, too fast, not chewed enough). Mushies are foods that we used to eat without chewing (even though there are lumps and chunks) and mushies are foods that can be thoughtlessly eaten too quickly.
