  1. Maybe I haven't searched in the right places but I've not hardly seen any posts about the drain tube that is inserted during the gastric sleeve. I've seen patients with drains from other types of surgery and when it's taken out it's a horrible experience of pain. Just wondering what the people here that has had the sleeve done experienced during that. PLEASE, tell it like it really was, not how you wanted it to be or not wanting to scare newbies off. I haven't scheduled surgery yet but need to have a band revision done and have been told instead of the plication they would recommend the gastric sleeve. Would love anyone's input!
  2. Just thought I would pass this on to all my fellow banders. Thanksgiving is coming up and lots of us will be eating one of my favorite foods....turkey. Well, this past Wednesday evening I cooked a turkey breast in my crockpot. I pulled a piece off to see how it tasted and Oh Baby! Stuck!! I was affraid to drink water because in the past when I felt something was stuck and drank water that made it worse. I really panicked. Finally, my husband called Dr. Ortiz's cell phone and he actually answered it! He said turkey was the worst thing to eat since it's considered to be a very dry meat. He said to drink some water and everything should be okay. I did and it went down. Maybe, If I had eaten some gravy with it or something to make it slide down I would have been okay. All of you with bands, PLEASE be careful when eating turkey! As much as I hate to, I'm not even going to try to eat turkey again except for processed packaged turkey, I can eat that but it's not as good. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
  3. I don't know where my mind was but I scheduled my first fill for 10/1/05, 5 weeks 3 days after surgery. The Dr's say 6-8 weeks and I was thinking it was 6 weeks 3 days. I've made my flight reservations also. Has anyone had their first fill in less than 6 weeks? Rene didn't say anything about it being too soon but I know it's not up to him to tell me that. If anyone has any input regarding this I'd be very interested because if I need to change dates guess I'd better hurry and do it.
  4. Hey there Queen! How are you doing? I want to eat solid food so bad. Just one bite of pizza would be sooooo great ! How about you? I have scheduled my first fill for Oct. 1 but now I'm wondering if it's too soon. I talked to Rene and he said they do the fills on Saturdays and Mondays. Thank you for the cab advice. Take care.
  5. Will there be room on the bus and trian for our luggage?
  6. I'm going for my first fill in Oct... I fly into San Diego airport and will need to make my own way to TJ. Any suggestions w/o having to pay an arm and leg?? I've heard there are shuttles, do you get on these at the airport? Thank you for any suggestions.
  7. Lisa, I think that's pretty normal. It seems like every night since my surgery I wake up during the night with uncontrolable coughing. That kills my port incision! Then yesterday I sneezed for the first time, OUCH! So don't get too scared about your incisions still being uncomfortable because I think it takes a while before the sensitivity wears off. Good luck!
  8. Surgery 8/24/05......I've had so much jello and broth, finally, I got some fat free cool-whip and put some on my jello, OMG, sooooo good! I squish it very good so there won't be any chunks when I swallow. Tomorrow I can have some yogurt and maybe a little cottage cheese, can't wait. It's hard to even watch TV anymore because of all of the food commercials. I'm trying to get out and walk but bad weather has set in so guess I'll try to just go up and the steps and walk inside my house. Any other suggestions for eating are welcome! P.S. I would love to talk to anyone banded 8/23, 8/24, or 8/25 to see how all of you are doing. I met many of you while in TJ but if I didn't write down your names I can't remember all of them. I do remember Jessie, QueenBee, Dawn, Catherine, Kelly (& Sarah). There are a couple others that I met but just can't remember the names or maybe never knew them. In case you don't remember me, my name is Carolyn, age 50+, there with my husband Bill.
  9. Leah, Congrats on your big step! I had my band done 8/24/05. That part was a breeze....the hard part is in front of me. Living on liquids is very hard for me. I'm looking forward to 8/31 when I can have yogurt and maybe some cottage cheese. The whole TJ experience was very positive, I hope your experience will be the same. You will meet some very nice, friendly and most importantly, caring people. Good luck to you!
  10. Hey Sweeties (brickhouse & queenbee), You and QueenBee are great! Bill and I made it home safely, finally got home at 11:30 pm (our time, 8:30 yours). A bit bushed. You 2 gals both looked gorgeous right after surgery, hair and make-up to perfection. It was so much fun to laugh and talk with both of you. Keep in touch and fill me in on your wonderful up-coming trip to New England! Take care!!
  11. I'm ba-ack! What a wonderful experience! I had the surgery on Wed. 8/24 and flew almost 3000 miles miles home yesterday (Sun). Dr's Ortiz and Martinez plus staff and, not to be left out, Mrs. Ortiz ("Little Energizer Bunny", Dr. O's moma) were all beyond my expectations. Our Hotel Lucerna was close by and was very nice. I met so many other nice people that were banded within a couple days of me and had many enjoyable conversations with many of them. I could go on and on but I'd probably just bore you to death. If anyone wants to e-mail me privately with questions I'd be glad to try to answer them. To all of those that I met in TJ and were banded along the same time here's a big HUG and Hello from Bill and me! Hope all are up and around and feeling great. Tambi
  12. Good luck to you both! I was banded 8/24/05 . We will all be on the losing side together!
  13. You read my mind!! I am being banded 8/24/05, this coming Wed. I decided not to tell anyone in my family or friends but my husband (he's going with me) said he thought someone should know in case something happened to both of us. Well, I told my daughter (an adult). She came down on me so much that I cried all night but this is my decision and my decision only! The only person that will tell me not to do it is my husband (hopefully he wouldn't dare) or decide on my own. Anyone reading this....if you think you should tell a loved one, just make sure you have talked with them before about the procedure and they understand everything. Don't tell a close relative, like I did, and they make you feel like you're making a fool of yourself. I am still looking forward to being banded. I know it will not be a walk in the park but in the long run I know I will be glad I did it! Anyone having similar stories to tell, please tell them, it will make you feel better to get it out of your system!
  14. Good luck to all of those being banded on Aug. 23, 24, 25 & 26! Mine's on the 24th so maybe I'll have a chance to meet some of you. I think of the way I'll probably look oh my gosh! I'm sure my hair will be a mess, it always is no matter what I do anyway, wish I had a wig....hee-hee. Where are all you from? I'm from Roanoke VA and will be leaving the 26th. Good luck!!
  15. Thank you Melissa......good luck to you too. From what I was told you'll have lots of company that day. Take care! Carolyn
