  1. Hey Tina, Take some Gas-X strips with you. They work wonders on the gas pains! You will love Dr. Ortiz - he is so awesome. Not to mention he is real easy on the eyes!!!!!
  2. Wow, Nursery. Sounds like you have had quite a journey. 21lbs in 16 days is awesome. I am 4 days post op and doing great. Like you, the gas has been the hardest for me. They come in the form of stabbing pains in my chest and come and go in waves. I've been taking the GAS X strips and they are really working for me. I am so happy I haven't had any shoulder pain to speak of. I haven't been able to eat much of anything so I can't really say that I'm tired of soup yet. I'm sure I will be by day 16! I've lost 6 lbs in 4 days, though. A total of 10 lbs including pre-op. Ihope things get better for you. I can't believe one broccoli did all that. I am learning a lot about the do's/don'ts. Hopefully, i can cut down on the mistakes. Keep us posted on how you're doing. Be Blessed, Lynn
  3. Hey Everyone, It's hard to believe I am an official Bandster. I am 4 days post op and have no complaints. Things are fine. The gas pains in my chest are subsiding and other than soreness at the incisions, I have no real problems. Haven't been hungry and have lost 6 lbs so far. That's encouraging. Dr. Ortiz, Dr. Martinez and their staff are so awesome! The care was unbelievable. Much better than the U.S. I have an HMO and feel like I'm just another health record number to them. Dr. Oritz and his staff were genuinely concerned about my well-being. DEFINITELY recommend them to anyone considering getting banded. Lynn
  4. Hey Kelly, I trust that you will be thrilled you picked Dr. Ortiz for your surgery. They are the BEST! I highly recommend them. I am 4 days post op and doing GREAT! Let us know how you do. Be Blessed, Lynn Hey Julia, I met Kim in TJ, did I meet you? I was banded on the 6th. How did your surgery go? Kim and I were doing great the following day. We are 4 days post op and I feel just fine. Struggled with some chest (gas) pains for a while. Kim's mom gave me some GAS X strips and they did the trick for me. No shoulder pain to report (thank the LORD!). Let us know how you're doing. Lynn Hey Kim, How are you feeling? I'm doing great. Hubby and I just got back from San Diego today. Tell your mom I said Thanks, Again! She was a lifesaver for me. She is just the sweetest! I have gotten the gas X strips and they have been my saving grace. No complications, though. How about you? Lynn
  5. I know my reply is probably a little late. You've already made your decision one way or the other. I'm just returning today from San Diego. I am 4 days post op and very glad of my decision. The care in Mexico in Dr. Ortiz's office far exceeded the U.S. in terms of being personable and actually caring about a patient. It was amazing! Have you ever had access to your doctor's cell phone number? I know I haven't. I even got a business card for a dentist in Mexico. I met a lady who had an excellent root canal done for $300. I have dental work that needs to be done and I'm really tired of the insurance company telling me my portion is $1,100 AFTER insurance pays. That's a hard "pill" to swallow considering I pay premiums every months. My trip was an AWESOME experience and I definitely recommend it. Take some GAS-X strips and a heating pad with you. You will probably need them. Let us know how things turn out for you. Be Blessed, Lynn
  6. Hey Everyone, The care here is UNBELIEVABLE! When you get to the airport, the driver will have a sheet of paper with your name on it. He'll be at baggage claim. I'm still really sleepy from the anestetia, plus I've had several bouts with dizziness. This is why I've just been released from the hospital. I stopped at the computer before I went back up to my room. Boo and Kim are here. Boo is right next door to me. Sending e-mails is allowing me to stay awake. The prep work was fine. They know how to put you at ease and you don't worry. I was bad and tried to have filet mignon as my "last supper" but fortunately for me it was really tough. So they sent me back a chicken club and french fries. That probably was better. and I drank my last COKE! It was great. The surgery wasn't really bad. I'm still pretty sore. The incision areas don't look bad at all. It does feel like you've been hit in the stomach though. You will be glad you did it. I am excited that I'm on the road to a new me. Can't to hear about yours, girl. I met a lady in the lobby who was coming back for a fill. She has lost 100lbs. She looks great! I'm feeling really sleepy again. Thanks for thinking of me. May God Bless all of you on your journey. Lynn
  7. Hello Everyone, I am in TJ at the Lucerna Hotel planning for my surgery tomorrow with Dr. Ortiz. His new facility and staff are WONDERFUL! They even put my husband at ease! That's how great it is. So clean and bright. My experience has been very good so far. Now the hotel ... leaves a little to be desired. Not a 5 star by any stretch. Maybe a 3. The exterior and lobby are a lot nicer than the rooms. But it's clean, so we can deal with it. I've met a couple other fellow bandsters who are having their surgery done. It's good to be able to see people in person. I'll keep everyone informed, especially you future bandits! Lynn
  8. Hey Jenna, Another April bandster called me this afternoon to tell the hotel is very nice. Ditto someone else's post that the beds are hard! If that's the worst I have to contend with, I think I'll be fine. She said Dr. Ortiz's new facility is beautiful! She said it's all marble when you first walk in. I'm very excited now. We leave tomorrow morning and I get banded on Thursday. My husband and I probably will stay a couple of days in San Diego. May as well, I've never been before. Using Delta skymiles we weren't able to get a return flight out until Monday. It's cool though. Me and the hubby haven't been away for a while. I'll post as soon as I can and let everyone know how it goes! Lynn
  9. Hey JuliaA, You are traveling from Georgia to TJ? I am coming from Atlanta, what about you? Are you flying into San Diego? My husband and I will get there on the 5th and my surgery is on the 6th. Maybe I'll see you there. Lynn
  10. Hey Kim, I am getting banded on the 6th, and will arrive on the 5th. If you don't mind, maybe I could check in on you and see how you are doing when you're finished. It may be good for me to see what I can possibly expect, also. Are you getting jittery yet? Lynn
  11. Hey Everyone, thank you so much for your input. I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but I looked up Lucerne on Trip Advisor to see what the ratings were and customer comments. Most say they loved it and described it as quite nice. I feel better now. I appreciate all of your input. I was really nervous about what a 5-star was like in TJ. i thought it would be like a 1-2 star in the U.S. There must be some merit to the comments about the hard beds. A person on Trip Advisor and lapbandtalk said the same thing. Oh well ... as long as it's clean and neat, we will be fine. There was even a virtual tour on Trip Advisor. I really felt better once I looked at that. Whew! Thanks! Only three days until departure!!!! OMG ... Breathe Deep .... Breathe Deep .... Where's the paper bag!!!!!!
  12. Hey Everyone, i was hoping to get a little feedback from those who had their surgery done with Dr. Ortiz. I was interested in hearing anyone's hotel (Lucerne) experience. I'm getting a little nervous that no one has replied. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing??! Someone please reply and tell me how your hotel experience was. I am very particular about the hotels in which I stay and hope that it's nice. Lynn
  13. Hey Kim, I'm getting banded on the 6th. Is Dr. Ortiz doing yours?
  14. Hey Stormgirl, Congratulations to you! I'm getting banded on 4/6. Did Dr. Ortiz do your surgery? How is the hotel there?
  15. Hey Everyone, Leaving for TJ on Wednesday. I am getting excited. My hubby and I are going to make a vacation of it and stay a few extra days. I was shocked when I saw the weather report. I thought it was always hot there. So much for my plans. Anyway ... can anyone tell me about their experience at Dr. Ortiz's preferred hotel. They say it's a 5 star property. But is 5 star the same in Mexico as it is here in the U.S? Lynn
