  1. Why no carbonated drinks? I can't see why champagne would be any better or worse than wine. My mum drinks champagne at family events, has done as long as I can remember and she had a gastric reduction 20 years ago. Yes empty calories, and as Jenna said, some say you get drunk quicker - probably because you'll have eaten less. I'd say give it some time, then take is slowly - one or two drinks over the course of the eveneing. sip slowly and the MINUTE you feel 'wrong' STOP!
  2. I've been banded a month and haven't lost a thing. I'm yet to have my first fill so I'm guessing that has a lot to do with it.
  3. That's a shame Katrina. Best of luck trying to raise the cash. Maybe when you;re a bit older the insurance company might change their mind.
  4. Yeah. Three fills in 8 weeks is incredibly unusual. I'd suggest you go back to your doctor. if you're not satisfied perhaps get a second opinion. Also, when you say you're having difficulty swallowing, what re you trying to eat. Are you getting that 'golf ball' like a huge pain at the front of your chest thing? If it's that, then you might simply be trying to eat too much too quickly.
  5. Thanks so much for all this info. I thoughth it was just me. i seriously feel like I could eat a full meal without thinking. I'm a vegetarian so meat iasn't an issue. yesterday I ate my first piece of toast. My surgeon said bread would be an issue but toast is usually okay. I managed to get 1 and half slices down, but it was only due to the usual pain you get with certain textured foods. I was still hungry, and could easily have had a bowl of mushy cereal if I had let myself. I think I need to seriously change my mindset. The dietician said this before my surgery, but I didn't really understand until now. It's not a magic wand that will just make me full and not want to eat after half a cup of food. I have to make the effort or it just won't work and it'll be a lot of time and money gone to waste.
  6. HI. I was banded three weeks ago and I'm having totally different experie4nces to almost everyone else. After the inital week of liquids, yoghurts, soups and custards I was already onto solids - slowly. But becuase the band hasn't been filled yet i find I can eat almost as much as I used to, which is really frustrating. I'm not getting that "full for 5 hours" feeling that I've read so much about. To be honest, I've had very little change to my life, I obviously eat less becuase it hurts too much to try to eat as fast as I used to, but otherwise I'm feeling pretty similar to how I used to. Perhaps I'll feel diffferently after my first fill.
  7. I arranged three weeks off - one week for hospital (which was really four days), and then 2 weeks at home. I knew I'd feel fine after a few days, and as I have an office job I could go back, but I felt I needed the two weeks to get used to my new life, my new eating regimen and I'd like to be sure i can stomach solids before i return to work. If I PB at home it'll suck, but at least I have the comfort of my own bathroom. At work it would not only be painful but incredibly embarassing, especially since I've not told a sole at work what I'm doing. As far as they're concerned I'm having an operation to do with my sleep aponea (which is technically correct), so sudden 'vomiting' and constant belching through the office would seem very out of place and completely unprofessional.
  8. marciemom, that is NOT normal. I am 9 days in and I feel fine - some gas pain, and a little discomfort. but not pain drinking water. If your doctor won't help, see if you can get a second opinion.
  9. My doctor warned me that lethargy and a general foggy 'depression' may set in. This is mostly due to the lack of nutrients on a liquid diet - you're suddenly getting no protein and if you're as meat eater you'll feel that effect. As a vegetarian I'm not suffering nearly as much, I'm 9 days out, but I do have a constant dull headache and felt very sleepy for the first 5 days. As long as you keep up your soluable multivitamins, your body should settle down and get used to the new nutrient intake within a few weeks. or so I'm told, and I hope is true. Feel better.
