  1. Hi Tina! Excited for you! Your cruise will be wonderful and you will be ready to sail off with a whole new you! The good thing is that you will be over the hump of your surgery and getting your mind set in about how to eat and what to drink. To be honest, don't worry about getting fill so fast. Like someone mentioned earlier some people loose 100lbs+ without a fill or with only 1cc. I only have 1 cc now and I managed to lose 60lbs the first year! I took it slow bc I didn't want to sag. I still have 35lbs to go though. With my terrible week experience with my band and the fill I got, I don't think I want to ever have another fill. (was too tight and had to have the fluid removed emergently). Personally, see if you can lose the weight with just no fill and that will be your first goal. Trust me, you will have some restriction when you try to eat old favorite foods. Now, granted you can eat around the band if you start diving into milkshakes, chocolate, candy, etc etc....we don't want to do that. We already know what happens on that route. If you start to slip or gain weight, then that's about the time you need to fill your band. Your cruise will be wonderful as they will have plenty of things that are good for you. Fruits, veggies, and also the bar tender can make you some wonderful smoothies (non alcoholic) from fresh fruit if you cannot get them down. Best wishes!!! ~amy
  2. Ditto what the last poster said. Blame game gets no one anywhere fast. There are many booklets that are handed out to prospective bandsters and also seminars that are held for those interested in the band prior to surgery. Support groups are everywhere and some people do need A LOT of psychological counseling for this type of surgery. Being in the medical field the surgeon is a surgeon, not a family practice doc or endocrinologist and most rely on referrals from other doctors about their patients and why they need the surgery. In fact I remember sending over charts and charts from my GP and an endocrinologist backing up the reason for my banding. Sorry for sounding so blunt, but the band is a tool for weight loss, not a direct cure for obesity.
  3. Hi there. I went through a phase where I lost my hair for a short time and once I got on an even kill with my weight loss, the hair loss was minimal. It was during those bursts of losing weight really fast was where I got into problems with shedding and thinning. I have very long hair and it drove me nuts to shed here and there. Be sure you are getting a good vitamin supplement down each day if you can. ~amy
  4. I just got home from the local doctor in my hometown who did not do my banding or fills. I have been banded for 3 years and maintained a weight without fills for 2 years. I got a fill on monday and got TOO MUCH! I was hospitalized on Thursday with marked dehydration and lemme tell ya. If you aren't getting any liquids down you are too tight. Fills should be done in increments when you are ready. Don't go by the scale, go by how much food is just right for you and if you are losing 2lbs a week in the early stages that is great. Most docs won't fill you if you are continuing to lose weight at 2lbs per week. Any more than that, they won't even dare give you a fill. You are TOO early in the game for that many fills. Your body take a long time to adjust to the banding. Even with me going 2 years without a fill and getting one was just like being banded again. The stomach is a very sensitive body part!!!! Hope you feel better soon! ~amy
  5. Hello, Just got a fill after 2 years of not having one and maintaining my weight for two years. I decided it was time to use the band for it's purpose and get the rest of this weight off. Moving 4 hours from my doctor was a big reason for not getting a fill. Thought that would make me more disciplined. aaaanhk....wrong answer. Well I thought I would join this forum to get myself motivated and have some people to talk with about being restricted. Sheesh, getting fluids down is a task now that I was so used to slurping down drinks left and right. This sipping here and there is getting hard to get used to. I got fill on monday of this week and the bad thing was that my dinner was not fully digested the night before so I had a little something stuck which aggrivated matters worse. Today is a much better day and I will start some soup. I needed a fresh start away from food for a few days so this will kick start my elimination therapy and get my head in the lap band game once more. Looking forward to chatting with you guys! ~amy
