  1. Hey Eve; I also live in Weeki Wachee Florida..and was looking for someone a tad bit closer to home...although I dont really want to...I just HATE to fly with a PASSION!!! I would love the contact info in regards to the Ormond Beach Nurses....I appreciate it!!! Cathy )
  2. LittleRoo; I hope that you dont worry too too much about the surgery.....its actually isnt as bad as you think....I know myself...I was just like u worried....anxious,....i guess the fear of the unknown....I can HOWEVER, promise you...you WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE WITH DR. ORTIZ....from my OWN perspective...I beleive that ALOT of American Doctors could learn alot from Dr. Ortiz and the way he runs his clinic....The cleanliness was also...UNBELEIVABLE....I leave tomorrow for my first fill..which by the way I was going to have done here in Florida..but...I loved them so much I decided to go back for my fills also with them....rest assured...you will have a positive experience...I beleive you will be posting on here soon...telling of how wonderful IT WAS.....call and talk to Carolyn or Sandy...I know Carolyn answered ALOT of questions that I had...and she never got sick of me either....I again wish u the best on your journey and keep us posted as to what u have decided to do....Cathy )
  3. LittleRoo; I honestly dont think those people you are talking to know anything in regards to Dr. Ortiz....I beleive alot of what some people write on here is "HERESAY".....I would suggest to you that you go back to those same individuals and have them do a little more research on Dr. Ortiz....AND HIS CREDENTIALS....I researched Dr. Ortiz for a year and a half...and he came HIGHLY recomended by not ONE, not TWO, but THREE doctors..and that is in my state of Florida alone....I also wonder why sooooo many AMERICAN doctors are going to Dr. Ortiz for the surgery THEMSELVES....The day I had my surgery an American Doctor from California was there....two doctors here in the state of Florida where I live who are doing seminars on Lap-Band Surgery are ALSO past patients of Dr. Ortiz....I dont mean to sound harsh in my words, HOWEVER....I beleive that before people are posting negative words or even thoughts in regards to an individual they SHOULD do extensive research such as a number of us have on this forum....I can honesty tell you I WOULD NOT WANT ANY AND I MEAN ANY other "SURGEON", other than Dr. Ortiz taking care of me...and just to note also....when I had my surgery Dr. Ortiz found that I had a Hernia....which he repaired at the same time as my surgery....I highly doubt that if Dr. Ortiz is not a "SURGEON", per your friends....he would not be an EXPERT also in this field....i suggest you do the research yourself....you will find he is a VERY VERY CARING, COMPASSIONATE , HIGHLY TRAINED Doctor, who is very very passionate in his work. Please check out his partial list of credentials from his Website....Best of Luck on your Journey!!! Cathy ))
  4. Hey Rid; Just wanted to let u you know that Revolution is only literally about a 3 minute taxi cab ride from the hotel.......Cathy
  5. Chelley; I just wanted you to know that I too am like RID, I love reading your posts...or BLOG as u put it....WHATEVER YOU CALL IT....WRITE IT HONEY!!! WE LOVE IT!!!! I also love reading your ups and downs...it keeps things "REAL" per say...nobody is going to have the perfect time at this...we all know it...but its funny because as i read your blogs...I can surely relate!!!...The other thing is....you might want to check out this site for flight tickets...I live in florida...and when I had my surgery in TJ...I payed $469.00 for my roundtrip ticket...I just found a new website and am getting ready to schedule my first fill..and the cost from Tampa to San Diego is only $289.19 round trip....i checked from Dallas and it was $313.00...not too bad....play with the dates a little bit...the website is called....www.ultimatefares.com....just a thought....well take care and KEEP POSTING.....Cathy )
  6. Hey Rid; Well....as u read in my above post.....my other half at one point was 1/2 convinced of the surgery...and he too considered it "CHEATING"....and having no "WILL POWER"....which bothered me....but..now that he knows what more is involved with the surgery and he went to seminars with me he is 150% behind me....and as far as me telling people about my surgery....I TOLD EVERYONE!!!...this was something i wanted for so long...and had researched it for so long...so many of my closest friends and family, and even my co-workers...they too were included in alot of my research...so......I really wanted everyone to know....they too are enjoying in watching me succeed...and the changes in me....which in all honesty...alot of our get togethers revolved around food..and I find since they know about my surgery...the get together foods are alot more healthy than before....and also include all food groups...and not all desserts....I know for myself, telling everyone was what was best for me....but then again....I am also the type of person that doesnt really care what other people think too...I will speak my mind....sooooo......this has been my own experience...i wish u luck on your journey....keep us posted...Cathy )
  7. OMG!!!!! ITS CINDYK.....HEY L--O--S--E--R!!!! I LOVE YOU AND WHAT YOU WROTE....LOL....I AM SO PROUD OF YOU GIRLFRIEND....SEE YA SOON....."THE OTHER SOUL"....HUGS HONEY....XOXOXOX
  8. Charlie; Hey there;...I am so excited...yes...Its been almost a month now..and I have lost 15 pounds...I have a lower BMI...which makes me loose the weight a tad bit slower...but thats ok...I dont care how slow it comes off...as long as it comes off...and the numbers DONT creep up....so far so good...in regards to the Feeling Hungry....NOPE!!! I follow the nutrionists paperwork she gave me to a tee...and I never feel hungry....the other thing is...I try not to snack in between meals either....just drink...and I NEVER drink with my meals or for one and a half hours after meals either...which I have to say is one of the hardest things to change...some of the changes with the Lap Band and the way you have to eat....really makes you realize how we are such creatures of habit....your whole life you are told to drink with your meals...and now at 40 yrs old am having to change that...it gets a little getting use too...however..I found that if I dont place a drink in front of me while eating....the glass is not there to grab for...lol...which while talking and eating you really dont even realize you are doing it...my other half and kids kept telling me..mom you are trying to drink....so...instead of them having to babysit me at the table..i just dont place a drink in front of myself....again though...its just a 40 yr habit that takes time to break...but this is definately a "DOABLE" diet...I am loving the extra energy level, I sleep much better, and just seem so "UP" per say....I am looking forwards to my first fill...which I am hoping I can have done at my 7 week Post Op....which would be July 21st...and in regards to the "LAST SUPPER", CindyK and I were told by Dr. Ortiz himself to go out and relax and have a good time...have a few drinks and eat a "LIGHT" meal....and...thats EXACTLY what we did...its really funny though...I only had a Pina Colada and maybe 4 bites of my "LAST SUPPER" meal...lol..because of the Pre-Op diet you really cant eat that much....at least myself and CindyK couldnt...I look back on that now and kind of giggle...because it really wasnt my "LAST SUPPER"...it was more of your "LAST PIG OUT SESSION"....I am very happy with what I eat now...but I am also very very watchful as to what goes in my mouth....i wish you the best of luck and keep me posted....Cathy )
  9. Hey Barbie; I appreciate the reply...I thought they were..but just wanted to check....Thanks So Much...Cathy
  10. Hello All; just a quick question....I was banded by Dr. Ortiz in TJ....Are our fills included, when we pay for our surgery? Thanks Cathy
  11. Trizzy; OMG!!! When I read your reply I started laughing....most of the negativity I received BEFORE my surgery was from my mother...and she also told me...NO YOUR NOT....I ended up going to a couple of seminars(with my other half, who was half convinced) and grabbed EVERY piece of information in regards to the surgery and took it over to my mother and asked her to please read this so that you will have a better understanding of just exactly what it intails....she was thinking it was more like the Gastric Bypass....she then read about Dr. Ortiz....and she felt "alittle" bit better...i just recently received my book that Dr. Ortiz wrote and she has been reading that also...now she asks me are u doing this? are u doing that? did u know this?....so she has done an about face....and my other half is 150% behind me now too....in fact this morning i had hopped on the scales and I had lost another 2 pounds....I was so excited I called my mother and was crying...i had been at a little bit of a plateau and was kind of down...but...she is one of my best supporters now....so....hang in there honey...I promise you...you wont be disappointed....the other thing I had to tell myself and MY MOTHER was this was something I HAD to do for myself...not her or anybody else...me...my self esteem, and to live a healthier, happier life....your mother will come around honey...once she sees how much more energy and happier you are....BELEIVE ME!!! i WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK TRIZZY....KEEP ME POSTED...CATHY LANIE; you will do fine....i have to say the hardest thing so far for me was the Pre-op diet....I have a smaller BMI, so the dr. had told me I would loose slower....I was put on Protein Drinks and Salad with Balsamic Dressing...for one week before my surgery....OMG...I was soooooooo sick of salad...and I love salads...lol...I also had my buddy CindyK, that I met on this forum who was going through the exact same things at the exact same times as myself...(we had surgery the same day)..we met there...IT WAS AWESOME....I have to say....she has been a HUGE AND I MEAN HUGE....strength for me....we email almost every day...venting about good days.....bad days..changes in moods, attitudes, energy levels...EVERYTHING in general...I read this forum faithfully every morning and every night...and I have learned oh so much from so many different people on here....and in regards to you getting through the border and being on time for your flight...DONT WORRY....Dr. Ortiz's office has it down to a science, my dear....my departing flight left at 6 a.m.,...they picked me up at 4:30 a.m. to be there on time...and that we were...dont worry honey...They handle so much for you....Best of Luck and keep me posted...Cathy
  12. Trizzy; I was banded on June 9th by Dr. Ortiz......at first when I told my family about being banded in Mexico some of them said the same thing...however, go to Dr. Ortiz's website and print out his creditials....ITS AMAZING...and so is he.....the other thing is...the U.S. doctors could surely learn quite a few things in reference to cleanliness....Dr. Ortiz's clinic is Immaculate....how many dr.'s in the U.S. make u place booties on your feet when going anywhere inside the clinic...even just to draw your blood....and as far as TJ....I loved it....and I didnt find it dirty or filthy at all.....hopefully this will help u some....take care and best of luck...Cathy )
  13. Halobabe; I just want you to know....I was banded June 9th along with CindyK.....I didnt know her from a hole in my head....she too was going alone....however....her and I got to chatting on this forum a couple of months before our surgery and got to be good friends...and she will ALWAYS be there for me....I beleive this friendship I have created through this forum was/and still is a GREAT deal of my strength....by the way, Cindyk ended up getting her surgery done the same day as myself....we were the only two there that day....and we had a BLAST!!! I beleive if I didnt have her to vent to PRE-OP during that lovely Salad & Protein Drink diet, I would have went nuts!!!!...however....instead of just me going nuts WE BOTH DID....LOL....her and I did everything together, along with my friend who came with me, during our stay there from Pre-op testing, "THE LAST SUPPER" together, surgery together, discharged together and spent that same day walking our butts off in TJ with my friend egging us on....IT WAS WONDERFUL...i am sure by the time u have your surgery you will have met a wonderful friend as I did....CindyK and I still converse almost every day venting to each other and asking questions...The other thing is....this forum was a great deal of information and strength before and after my surgery....you would be surprised how many friends you will find on here pushing you all the way....ITS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE....I wish you the best of luck with your surgery....please keep us posted.....Cathy
  14. Lanie & Charlie I was banded June 9th....it went WONDERFUL...would do it again in a hearbeat.....just wanted you to know that I have Nextel and I was able to charge my phone with no problems....no problems with service either...and I live in Florida...Dr. Ortiz and his staff also use Nextel too....so...I dont know about any other phone services....the currency there is american monies....honestly though..u really dont need to bring alot at all....the only thing I spent money I was my "LAST SUPPER", the night before surgery at the Rivoli right there at the Lucerna...WHICH BY THE WAY WAS WONDERFUL, and any special purchases u may want to do...as far as tipping....when I was at the Lucerna I tipped my Bell Boy....but he WAS WONDERFUL....RAUL his name was....but anyways...and as far as jewelry....I myself...NEVER EVER take my jewely off....I did remove all my necklaces and bracelets and only left my wedding set on...I myself had no problems...however.....one of the patients there the day before woke up to find her gold wedding band missing out of her nightstand drawer...so....I will leave that one up to you guys....I hope that this has helped the both of u...BEST OF LUCK ON YOUR SURGERY....U WILL NOT REGRET IT......Cathy
  15. Eve--I was banded June 9th by Dr. Ortiz....and I too was told NOTHING bigger than Advil...I take Paxil CR, (hopefully not for much longer)...and I was told I really should not CRUSH it either....however, since the day of my surgery I have been and I have had NO Problems...but I would double check with your dr. just to make doublely sure....I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK ON YOUR SURGERY....U WILL FIND IT A VERY DOABLE DIET...just remember the Band is ONLY A TOOL!!!
