kmorgan
I've read a couple of postings regarding hair loss. Is this a common side effect of weight loss and getting less nutrients in the body? Also- does the hair grow back?
ktb2904
Hi, Everything I've read says hair loss is normal with WLS somewhere around 3 months post surgery. My plication was done Jan 27/11, so far hair loss isn't an issue, but it is early days. I saw my dermologist just after surgery and she suggested I add 3-5mg(not mcg and only place I've found this higher dosage was at Baractic Advantage) plus using Rogaine 5%, yes it's it the men's strength. Also, she suggested to not use a generic, in this case, the genertic isn't as effective. I've also added Ultra-sil(aka Horsetail), reommmended by my local health food store. Let's hope this helps...I normally don't have alot of hair per square inch as it is. If anyone else has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. EricaG
I didn't think this was an issue with me but, Now I do. I've noticed a large amount of hair fallout after a shower and way more than usual. I'm 1 year and 3 months banded now and I haven't really done anything about it. I straighted my hair last night and I noticed a LARGE amount of baby hairs around my hair line. I usually have little stray curls around my hair line, but this was very noticeable. I'm glad someone posted about this. Is there any supplement I can take to help with the hair loss? I don't want to be thin bald. :/

I tried numerous things but a bandster suggested Avalon Organics Biotin B-Complex Thickening conditioner and I have tried it and definitely the hair loss has gone back to what it was pre surgery. I buy it online.
sd105
Lack of protein can be a factor in hair loss. You should consume around .38g of Protein per Lb of body weight to support proper body functions. Your body directs the protein it receives to more essential life support purposes and hair is not one of them. http://www.ehow.com/about_5192707_protein-foods-eat-hair-loss.html This is just one source, but if you search around you will find more. suzettem
I have problems drinking protein sometimes and have found a pill form that works really well. It's called humapro. I think it is helping my hair
ktb2904
Hummm...where did you find 'humapro', would like to add it to my supplement list, hair loss is starting, and so far Biotin, and Rogaine hasn't prevented the expected hair loss. I woudln't mind upping my protein either, as I haven't found a protein drink that hasn't got me gagging it back up. Have tried 8 different brands so far...............thanks K:)
