MAY SURGERIES AND FILLS

Recommended Posts

Gosh you're good,

I still haven't thought much about anything...

I was told to lose 5% of my weight so that's like 9 - 10 pounds

My choice was option 1 for a week, Or option #2 for 10 days. I was leaning towards diet option #1 - Why prolong the torture to 10 days... #-o

Like you I’m trying not to gain before the pre -op. It's only been 43 days since I quit smoking and I have days where I eat everything in and out of sight! Though it’s getting easier, I still have that hand to the mouth habit...... Not good!

((((((((((((((((Shiney)))))))))))))))))

I just saw your post today. I'm so proud of you for quitting smoking. Good for you!

I started Monday

Tho last night I woke up out of a dead sleep and grab a FULL size Hershey bar :o and ATE it by the time I got back to bed.

And considering that I gained 1.5 pounds waiting to get to the pre opt diet....

I dropped a total of 3 pounds since MONDAY, but the first 5 pounds are the easiest It's going to be hard! VERY hard

((((((((((((((((((((((((Shiney))))))))))))))))))))))))

Hugs, we all have the best of intentions and it's progress not perfection...heck if it was easy, we'd all be at our goal weight and diets, food programs, the weight loss industry, this procedure wouldn't exist. xo

I believe in you! How are you coming along. It's wonderful you've lost a total of 3 lbs already. I haven't "started" my pre op officially yet. But I'm logging every bite, lick and taste and eating much smaller meals (including protein shake as meal replacements).

I gained 10 lbs waiting for my new surgery date and the last time I jumped on a scale I cut that to 6 lbs so I'm feeling pretty confident especially since it's my TOM so much of the 6 lbs is probably water weight.

Dr. Miranda gave me some good advise today. I contacted her about my pre op diet last night. She mentioned two things I've never heard before...and considering that I've had two doctors and head pages and pages of blogs and loads of literature.

1. Dr. Miranda said I could eat green, leafy vegetables pre op and I could use the wish bone spray salad dressing. I picked that up today.

2. Dr. Miranda told me to lose as much weight as possible, over and above the 6 lbs to take me back to my original pre op BECAUSE the more weight I lose, the less time I spend in surgery, which means the less time I spend under the Anesthesia - now there was a motivator. I wish I would have known that earlier.

;)

xo

Can't wait to meet you.

Hi everyone! I wanted to post my surgery experience from today...

I had my surgery this morning at 10am (PST). Everything went well. I arrived to the OCC surgical center yesterday and had blood drawn for labs, and then I was released to go back to The Marriott for the night. My hubby and I ate at the hotel restaurant, and even though I only had broth and a green salad, the service was top notch!

At 7am today, Marriott drove us to the surgical center and I completed the rest of the tests. As soon as I arrived, they conducted a breathing test and EKG, both of which I passed with flying colors! I got my IV started as well. I also met with Dr. Miranda, who reviewed the post-op diet with me, and had me step on the scale. To my surprise, I've lost another 4 pounds since my last weigh in. That means I've lost a total of 24 pounds on the 4-week pre-op diet! Wow! I credit this to sticking to my pre-op diet AND keeping a journal of what I am eating daily. That has helped me stay accountable.

After I was done with my pre-op appointments, they took me and my hubby to my room where I got into this comfy gown and the infamous and hideous paper panties. Ha ha! Moments later, the nurse gave me my saline drip with Dramamine to counter the motion sickness side effect from the anesthesia. Dr. Acosta sat with us for a little while to go over my medical history questionnaire, and then Dr. Martinez came in to go over the procedure. (I didn't get to talk to Dr. Ortiz until after the surgery.) Before I knew it, they wheeled me into the OR, I got on the table, and they sedated me. It only took 30-40 minutes total from when I left my room and when I returned to my room. Dr. Ortiz told me that the band placement only took 4 minutes.

Overall I feel good. I am experiencing gas pains, but I am walking up and down the hallways to help get rid of it. The port area is quite tender. It feels kind of like I just did a bunch of ab crunches, but it's tolerable in my opinion. I do feel the band on my stomach, especially when I take a sip of water. I will be released from the surgical center at 8am tomorrow and be driven back to the hotel. We fly home on Saturday morning.

Everyone here and at the hotel is very nice and attentive. I've had a wonderful experience so far, and plan on recommending it to my friends and family who are considering the procedure. :D

Well, that seems to cover it.

I hope everyone else who is banded is doing well, and everyone else who is coming up next - good luck! You will do just fine! You are in excellent hands here at the OCC!

Your fellow BANDito...

Hello to all, :-h

My name is Linda and I am so excited my band date is May 22, 2009. I and my family will be picked up @ San Diego airport at 7:30 am and the adventure and new life begins. I will stay one night at the Marriot Hotel if all goes well I head home on the 23rd.

My brother had his done here on state side in Feb; he is doing an awesome job. He has lost 50 lbs already I’m so happy and proud of him.

I have wanted this for a very long time, never dreamed of going to TJ. After surfing around on this forum and the one my brother is on. I made contact with the OCC to get more info and vada boom vada bing I’m on my way. I was going for a June/July banding, there was a cancellation for the 22 and I’m in!

With all the money I have spent on diets just hoping for the miracle to happen. I could have had this done several times over. I’m a pro at losing weight its keeping it off that’s the trick, plus I always seem to pick up a couple extra pounds on the way back up by 10 plus what I have dropped.

My highest weight is 265 in late 2003, lost 75 lbs on the Adkins diet, thought I found the magic not true once I started to introduce carb’s I started back up the scale. By this past Dec I was up to 240+ and climbing. Then my daughter announced her wedding plans and I was to give her away I was totally ashamed of my appearance and felt like crap, so I tried the Adkins once again, wasn’t working as well as before I have totally slowed my metabolism down with all the diets I’m sure. I managed to get down to 220 in time for the April wedding, but struggling to keep it off.

I have been eating very light the past couple weeks to jump start my 5% loss very hard but down to 211, 2 more pounds to reach my 5%. I will start pre-op diet tomorrow to make sure I do it and keep it off. The nine I have lost as of today that is has been up and down the past couple weeks.

Sorry guys I was just going to introduce myself…! I just keep going on and on I’m just so excited and this is only my second attempt to reply on of this forum.

I must say it feels good to write to people who truly understand and can relate.

I wish all the best to everyone. Maybe one day ours paths may cross.

One of your soon to be banded friends,

~Linda

PS… I wonder :-? what it will feel like to be under 190. I only know 190 for a nanno minute! I’m having trouble seeing it less than that!

BANDito! I like that. My grandmother had a cat named Bandito and since I wanted a pet and my parents didn't every time they saw a fly they said it was my pet fly "Bandito"...lol

Hugs! How exciting you were banded today and everything went smooth. That is wonderful wonderful news. I'm very nervous but not nervous enough to not get banded. lol

Have a wonderful trip home.

I'm staying at the Marriott too! And my surgery is the 22nd too! Our stories are very similar. My heighest weight is 294 and my lowest weight in the past 12 months is 212. I started to pile it back on after my mother died and when I hit 259 I called Dr. Ortiz. I'm at 244 right now. I'm hoping to be about 239 on surgery day.

I look forward to meeting you. I'm sure we have a lot to talk about.

Hello Deanna,

So our countdown begins! :D

Small world, I live in Southern CA also (Poway). I will be meeting my ride at the airport to be taken across to the OCC on the 22nd @ 7:30 am for all my pre-op stuff and banded in the same day.

Not a good day for dropping #'s today I gained a pound back, so I need to drop 3 pounds by Friday. I hope that it won't keep me from being banded if I fail to lose 3 pounds this week! :lb12: I hope it’s just fluid.

I’m looking forward to meeting you as well. The Mexicoach is that a taxi service or are they connected to the OCC also? I have seen some mention on here. Is this who we contact for our fills to cross over? I haven't been to TJ since the 80's. It was way different then. I was much younger and fearless.

Keep in touch,

~Linda

Hey guys! I'm new to this board. I just had my surgery May 12! After the liquid protein diet before surgery I felt amazing. It's been 5 days since my surgery and I am starting to get back to that. It's an exciting time but boy, a lot of changes! I'm not sure when I will have my first fill... maybe 4-5 weeks? I'll be going to my post-op in a couple days and find out more.

WHooooooooooo - Good for you! I hope you sleep well, But you should try to walk, from what they say

Hello Robbyn,

Well in the am we will be at 4 days and a wake up to our new life! :D As of this morning I am down 2 more pounds. Yippee One more for the 5% loss.

I should be down after all I only had 665 calories yesterday! Same today not to bad though (YET) I am taking the Metamucil capsules 2 x a day. I wonder if we can take them for our 21 days of liquids only? I’m not sure if they are what is holding my hunger at bay or if it’s my total desire to a healthier and thinner me!?

The hard part will be tomorrow at work! I will take my shake and a green salad and take a walk at lunch. There is tons of food in our break room. Our patients bless their hearts are always bringing us goodies. I have to be strong! Only have to get past the next 4 days, if I get the hunger pangs I can always make some peppermint tea that helps curb the hunger pain for a while.

How are you doing on your pre-op diet?

Can’t wait to met you and Deanna and share a juice toast together too our future!

As always your future banded friend,

~Linda
