  1. I have had the same issues with some of my family. My mom (bless her skinny heart) even offered to pay for weight watchers and a personal trainer..Wish she would offer to pay for this!!!!

But I have made a choice...I am going to be the healthiest me I Can be. I have three babies and a wonderful hubby I want to live a healthy life not a sad fat one...full of diabetes and high blood pressure. I have gotten a lot of YOu are crazy, YOU are NOT THAT FAT>>>>i hate this....I have a BMI of 36.9..I have PCOS am insulin resistant and feel I don't have to justify this to anyone. someone in a prior post said they don't have to live in your body...AMEN to that...I am sorry if others don't think I am FAT ENOUGH>...what is that supposed to mean anyway.

I feel great about dr ortiz...feel he is the best choice in the country ...or out of the country...Keep your chin up! my surgery date is the 11th of March and We are flying out the 10th from chicago!

I am really excited and cannot wait to get this done!

I am ready for the rest of my life!

GOod luck to all of you

    krista

It will be wonderful! Have a great time, relax and enjoy! You are ready for the rest of a fun filled life! I already feel better and I was just banded on 2/18!

  2. Me and my 13 year old daughter are both getting the lapband on Thursday (2/28/08). Not only have we not told a multitude that I am doing it, but I couldnt bear what I might run up against if we included her in the discussion. Funny, we made the plans before the appearance of Cassie on the Oprah show, and after all of the positives that came out of that I feel some sort of affirmation that I/we are doing the right thing. Dr Ortiz personally called my daughter (with Lori's help) to discuss with her the lapband and the changes she will have to make. So you go girls! Let them tell you how much of a mistake you made while your prancing around in a bikini next year!!

    Blessings, Diana

I wish my mom had helped me out with my weight when I was 13 instead of telling me to stop eating! Go for it girls!

  3. Kimmie,

Been there done that! Here is the secret.....ready. Resolve in yourself that what your doing is right and YOUR comfortable with it. :-h I found out that you can not tell people your business. I just got banded on 2/21/08. Single mom. living in Vegas, no family and no support! I got the look, folk wanted to pray for me, people wanted to give me a "Word" it got it reallllllllly bad. But, check this out ....you are struggling with your weight right, unhealthy and unhappy? :( Well this is what really matters.......they have nothing to do with THAT. At the end of the day....its you and YOUR BODY! ;)

I went to Mexico and had my surgery and...... BAMMM...IT WAS ALL GOOD. =D> I HAD NO PROBLEMS, THE SERVICE WAS OUTSTANDING . GOT TREATED LIKE THE QUEEN THAT I AM. I WOULD HAVE went NO other PLACE TO GET THE SURGERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

    Here is Dr. Ortiz's stats:

    5-8 surgeries a day!

    Over 5, 000 surgeries performed

Dr. Ortiz lives in San Deigo,CA and NOT in Mexico...now run tell them that! :o

Anyway, you will do just fine ...just stop talking and do it !

Are you ready for the BOMB FOR SHELL.......SITTING DOWN.... THE SURGEONS GIVE YOU THEIR PERSONAL CELL NUMBER., NOW WHAT US SURGEON IS GOIN TO DO THAT!

    God be with you ><'

Amen to that sister! I banded on 2/18 and let me tell you, the hospital here in the states gave me too many pain meds after knee surgery 5 1/2 years ago and I respiratory arrested and went into ICU! At OCC, Dr. Ortiz's staff made sure I was comfortable and here I am! alive, well and sooooooooo very happy! I agree, if you were going to have heart bypass would you go to someone that did 1 or 2 month or 6-8 a day! Well, you picked the surgeon who does 6-8 a day! He has it down to a science and it was wonderful! Woo Hoo! Have a ball and enjoy the attention! =D>

  4. MY SURGERY DATE IS WEDNESDAY!!!!! I AM SO EXCITED AND NERVOUS...NOT NERVOUS FOR THE SURGERY ITSELF, BUT FOR AFTERWARDS. FOOD IS AN ADDICTION FOR ME AND THAT HAS BEEN PROVED DURING THE POST OP DIET. I HAVE CHEATED (A FEW TIMES...) BC THE URGES WERE JUST TOO STRONG. I QUIT SMOKING WITHOUT A PROBLEM...BUT FOOD IS A DIFFERENT STORY! I HAVE LOST ABOUT 8-10 POUNDS ON THE PRE OP DIET WHICH IS BETTER THEN NOTHING, BUT IM STARTING TO REALIZE THAT THERE IS NO CHEATING AFTER 2/27! I AM SO SICK OF FOOD, LITERALLY, THAT IM ACTUALLY EXCITED THAT I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EAT FOOD- ONLY LIQUIDS! I JUST THINK EVERYDAY THAT THE WAY I WILL FEEL OUTWEIGHS HOW FOOD MAKES ME FEEL BC IT ONLY MAKES ME FEEL FOR FOR A MINUTE. I CAN OVERCOME THIS- AND I HOPE THAT ANYONE ELSE BEGINING THIS JOURNEY, WHO FEELS LIKE ME, WILL REALIZE THAT THEY CAN DO IT TOO! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!! 2 MORE DAYS! ;)

You can do it! Stay on the forum because I was banded on 2/18 and let me tell you, i get strength everyday from something I read on the forum! You can do it! It will be one week tomorrow for me and I am doing great! Go for it!

  5. Is all exercise safe? What I mean is am I at a higher risk of slippage with certain exercises like stomach crunches or certain types of vigorous exercise? Getting banded March 4th and soooooo looking forward to it!! Tired of being described as "the girl with the pretty face" :) Although I take that as a compliment I can never shake the implication.

just banded on 2/18 and was told no stomach exercises for 3 months and no real exercise except walking for 3 weeks. I do not think swimming with the glue on the stitches would be good right now but i walked a mile 4 days after surgery! Good luck! ><'

  6. oh god, thank you for the photos...i absolutely do not want a scar like that one on my stomache, i am freaking out right now! honestly, my stomache is my only and best quality - sounds weird but i gain all my weight in my legs and rear!!! my sister had gastric bypass 2 times...i know so scary and her scar is like that only 5 times the length, it is horrible to look at and she is so self concious of it...i think you said this was NOT by dr. ortiz though...

I was banded on 2/18 and my cars look like the very first photo where you can hardly see them and it has not even been a week! I have very little bruising and you can not see the port! Promise! I may post pics of the day after surgery of my "scars!"

  7. I also have had to answer to my friends & family about why I went to Mexico....one reason is I dont have insurance & had to pay cash ......honestly, I would rather have a leading doctor in Mexico than throw back dr.'s we have around here in my area. Sad to say but all the health care experiences Ive had here in California have been pretty horrible.........does that make sense? :)

I agree with lanie! I was "overdosed" on pain meds given by my doc in an American hospital right here in my home town and respiratory arrested! I was banded on 2/18 and felt the care I was given was better than what I had here in America! I too am having to justify to friends why mexico and I say "Would you want a doctor who does 2 heart bypasses a month to do yours or one that does 6 a day?" Well, they always say "6 a day" and I say "that is why I went to dr. ortiz!" He does 6 a day and has it down to a fine science that works! So we will all have to show "them" that TJ was the right choice! Keep your chin up!

  8. Thanks for sharing the first half of your surgery experience, I am also from Las Vegas (Henderson actually) and am scheduled for the 29th. Maybe we can get together for a fill trip back to TJ!

I was in Tj and banded on 2/18! great experience! I want to head to Tj for a fill too! Loved it there and in the OCC clinic! Great people! =D>

  9. I was pretty nervous but very excited before the surgery. I was totally at ease though once I got there and met all of the wonderful people that would be caring for me. Everyone was so nice. The Dr.'s are very cute...like soap opera doc...hahaha...so that was even better! :) I was not in that much pain when I woke up and was able to walk the halls with a couple of the other girls. I went to the beach and walked around in Rosarita the next day and had a blast! I never had the gas pains very bad...I was very thankful. So far...everything has been GREAT! I have scheduled my first fill for March 22nd...so now, I am looking forward to that!

I was banded by Dr. Ortiz on 2/18! I am home in Texas feeling great! I too went out the day I came out of the clinic and went shopping! Bought 2 pair of awesome handmade cowboy boots! I was feeling sassy! I feel great and did have a bit of gas pain but I walked and walked and walked and it seemed to help! Go girl, you will feel great! =D>

  10. Thanks Clynn,

    LOL

I sure wont' try the latter half. My site looks alittle brusied, is that ok? and it's swollen. How long will it be untill you start seeing the healing process?

By the way, thanks for all the positve imput I have read on this forum, posted by you!!! =D>

I was banded on 2/18 and mine is still sore but not bad and just a bit bruised. My nurse friend said DO NOT SCRUB THE GLUE. LET IT COME OFF ON ITS OWN. So there! Good luck and keep in touch!

  11. Cassie,

This is so great! I truely hope she is not 'tough' on you with her questions, or make you doubt your choices.

I think you love yourself enough to take care of yourself the best way you know how. Remember that when you are in Chicago! The lap band was the right choice for you. It might not be the right choice for everyone - this is why they call it a choice.

I am choosing to have the lap band surgery on feb 15th. This is my choice, and it's the best choice for me. I won't let anyone tell me what to do with my body.

    Good Luck!

PS - I'm from Chicago - you'll just love it - I hope you get time to have fun while your there. There's lots of great shopping very close to her studios!

    Peace,

    Maggie

    I arrive on Feb. 17! Wasn't Cassie GREAT??? :D

  12. ><' You were awesome!!! I was so proud of you bandsters! I felt kind of sorry for the bypass kids! They did not know any better did they!! LOL! I thought what was aired was positive and if you noticed, your mom is the only one that mentioned Dr. Ortiz! No one mentioned OCC!!

I am glad I had the chance to see you now! You look great and sound so positive! Go GIRL and good for you and your mom finding a way to help you before it was too late! I get banded on Feb. 18! Jill :)

  13. Hi there.

I'm scheduled for Feb 15th, 2008. Anyone else? I arrive on the 14th and leave on the 17th. I'm hoping to get some shopping in, too. Anyone else on the 15th?

    Peace,

    Maggie

I arrive on the 17th! someone please tell me about the gas X!!! I am nervous and excited too! Anyone else checking in on the 17th of February, surgery on the 18th??? Can't wait!! ><'

  14. I am sooo nervous..I am kinda freaking out a lil bit but I have lots to do to keep me busy.. My mom will be going with me to mexico so my folks are driving up from arizona and I am getting the house ready before they get here.. I painted all day yesterday and today is deep clean day.

I have to go to the store to get my Gas X strips Is there anything else med's wise I should get??

One of my co-workers already noticed a weightloss from the pre op diet.. that felt really good.. she said my butt has gotten smaller..WOOHOO I have not heard that in about 8 years.. I will be soo glad to get rid of the shelf that is sitting back there..lol

Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

    Stacy

What are the gas X stips for??? Is this a secret weapon???? Will it help with the gas?? Jilliepooh

  15. ><'

Go Jenn and Cassie! I wish someone would have told me long ago about the lapband! I agree-Dr. Oz is mr. hollywood! #-o He makes me kind of sick! I am so proud of you and Cassie and I can hardly wait to see it tomorrow! I will be watching! Here we go! =D>

My wonderful friend in FL told me she had done it with Dr. Ortiz in October and at 51 3/4 years old and struggling with weight since I was Cassie's age, I started investigating the possibilities of doing it! My husband is very supportive and my obsessive compulsive sister said, "you just need to diet and exercise and let me send you this diet and that fat flush, etc." so I had to lie to her and tell her I had decided not to do it to get her off my back. I am so proud of you and Cassie for finding a way for her to KEEP her health, her joints and her sports and willing to go on Oprah and put yourself out in front of the world and for standing up for what you know was the right choice for Cassie! Good luck with your continued health and I will be watching! Jill

  16. I have had the same questions, negative remarks, etc. about Tijuana and doctors in Mexico as well, but I have stood firm and I have a friend who could not be cured of cancer in the us without horrible chemo, etc. and is totally cancer free (2 years by the way) after being treated in Tijuana! I try to not get into an argument with these people but it is hard sometimes to keep my mouth shut (which is one of the reasons I need the lap band--if my mouth is open, i have either food or a foot in it)!!! Band scheduled for Feb. 18!

  17. im so happy for you on getting your surgery soon. im happy because i know how good you will feel! the day after my surgery i went shopping for 5 hours in a row! and i felt great ! ( btw im 42 years old- banded by dr ortiz 8/17/07 - i ve had 3 fills so far and i think im at my sweet spot ) :) i have not been sick due to the band a single day! the liquid diet period that follows the surgery is very important and takes willpower but it is all worth it! i cherish my band every minute of every day! and now

i still have food on my mind but its for all the right reasons- since i have only had my band for a little while i still marvel and how quickly i get full :) and i make sure that what little i do eat is good for me - i also was very worried about how i would be able to function after the surgery due to feeling VERY bad if i dont eat - blood sugar thing? but i did not experience that at ALL

after surgery- in fact i was taking 6 different pills a day due to blood pressure and heart problems and now i only take 1 little pill every day- i am losing about one pound a week now. ( now that have had a few fills) my whole surgery experience was so amazing that my mother ( 61 yrs old ) had it done by dr ortiz in Oct. ( we went shopping the day after her surgery and we shopped for 6 hours!) she is doing great also! i am glad you are reading this forum because everyone on here is a 'real' person just like you. the more you read the more comfortable im sure you will be. in fact reading this forum is the reason i chose dr ortiz and the OCC !

this forum is still a great source of information and encouragement to me- so thank you!!!!!!! to everyone that contributes to it

:) sorry for such a long post - i am so excited for you! please dont worry - you're gonna do great!

Thanks for you words of support! I am going Feb. 18 and have had all the same worries as the others here. It really helps me read all of this! I will be on a "girl's weekend" prior to leaving for my surgery--I fly out of Austin 1 hour after I return from my girl's trip so I am worried about the "liquids" only before I go! I will really have to work on this! Any suggestions????
