  1. Hi

I've asked before... and I'm asking one more time... Has anyone had or know of SOMEONE that's been banded over the gastric by pass? I did receive one name and email address... But no one wrote back.. There has to be someone who's had this done... Dr. O's group has done this before... But no one knows of an actual person to contact.. I'm finding this very odd... How can I check on the outcome of this procedure if I can't get a hold of anyone... ??????????????/

    Perplexed!!

  3. We are all here for you and are CHEERING you on!!! Please hang in there and allow us to help calm and support you. 17 pounds in a month is a huge success regardless of what Dr. Miranda said. What diet plan are you currently on? Maybe it needs to be tweaked a little more to be more of a benefit to you. Getting the band was the best thing I ever did and now that you have made the same choice I want to help. Smile babe we all care and love ya.

Thanks for the support and encouragement.... I'm feeling slightly better... My food plan? Atkins drink in the morning 160 cal. 15 g protein.... Lunch... Lean Cuisine... max 330c.... Protein Bar snack 190 30g protein... and lean cuisne at night max 330 c...

I can't cut down anymore than I am...

I could go on all protein... similar to the Atkins diet... But thats very hard... Did it once... It made me bitchy-er :)

I'm not willing to eat less than 1000 .. Didi that once and my body went into starvation and my weight loss was slower...

I am willing to use my exercise bike 30 min. a day...

    Maybe that will help...

I now have 37 pounds to go to even qualify....

Again, I have Friends going to Mexico the end of July.... I want to go with them... Is it realistic? I hate being pressured to lose weight...

I will give it my best effort...

    :)

  4. I'm in the process of of lowering my BMI. Dr. O agreed to do the lap band over my previous gastric by pass if my BMI is 50. In the last 4 weeks I've lost 17 pounds by sticking with a 1,000 cal. food plan. For me thats actually Great... Ofcourse 30 pounds in a month would be nice...but 17 is good too.

I have 33 more pounds to go . Tentatively, I'd like to get banded with My Friends the end of July... But I am running out of enthusiasm. I am not a good diet-er... Meaning.. I get grouchy and grumpy and would rather eat more often than not... However, I've stuck with it so far...

Today I received an email from Dr. M stating that my weight loss is to slow... Slow ?????? 17 pounds in one month is not slow. She suggested that I speed it up... and asked what i've been eating. I keep a food journal and told her. However, I'm quite annoyed....

If someone tells me to go faster... I'll go slower... If someone says its not enough... I'll eat more on purpoe.. Yes, I can be defiant..

But to tell me that I'm not losing fast enough is a true slap in the face... It did not motivate me... It pissed me off. Today I had at least 2000 calories and at the moment my Band enthusiasm is nill.. I don't think I'm going to make July if I continue to feel angry...

Anger makes me want to eat...

  5. Go to tickerfactory.com. scroll down the screen and click on weight loss. then follow the steps and cut and paste the bb.....bulletin board...version into your signature. Your signature can be changed by going to my controls, look down the left to edit signature...click on this and it pulls up your current signature and under that you can edit the information in another box....hope this helps......

Thanks! I've lost 14 pounds in the last 3 weeks on 1,000 calories and zero exercise. I have 35 more to go to even qualify for surgery... I am not an exercise person... but I have started walking. Thanks for the info. :)

  6. I am also new to this site... I have 34 pounds to lose to even qualify for the lap band. But what I've observed is the fact that some people are not following Pre-Op and Post Op Directions... then wonder why they are not losing weight and doing well.

I understand about having an eating disorder.... and how hard it is to follow a food plan.... but I also know from past experience that if you're eating a few days after surgery.... and think you're going to get away with it... you're not.

I had gastric bypass in Feb. 2000 and followed directions to a point... then started to do it my way... Well my way lead me to gain back 100 out of the 180 I lost... and now I have to start all over again....

The people you've read about that are complaining are not necessarily following the directions given to them.

I've learned the hard way... in order to be succesfful you have to Follow the Plan... No deviations...

  7. Hi GinaB and welcome to our wonderful, informative, uplifting, kick you in the butt when needed forum! :lb21:

It sounds like you've done your research and on your way to becoming a "bandster". From your post I have a couple observations/questions.

My bmi is currently 40 (262lbs) down from 44 (288lbs) I eat at least 1,200 calories a day (give or take 1-200 ) in my opinion 1000 calories at your current BMI/weight seems really low/restrictive. Of course I am not a doctor or trying to give advice but as someone who has also tried every diet (and I mean EVERY diet) and failed I do know that restricting myself only led to binging later.

I have lost/gained/lost/gained the same 50-150lbs countless times... I never never never dealt with the emotional aspects of why I overate and continued to be obese. I am doing that now and am finding that it's equally important for me to be emotionally healthy as it is to be physically healthy and I can't have one without the other. I hope that you are getting the emotional support you need to go along with your new "band".. of course that's one of the great things about this forum, everyone is here for you.

I can't wait to read updates from you.

Yes, 1000 calories for my current BMI is low. I'm trying to hurry the initial weight loss in order to qualify for the surgery. I have Friends that want to go to Mexico in June and I want to go with them. I'm a quick loser and also a quick gainer...

As far as emotional support... I belong to a 12 step Program that deals with emotions and not weight.. Very helpful.. But not enough... Thanks for the encouragement :)

  8. She said 160 cals. Those sound great!

Protein by Premier Nutrition has 30 g and 160 calories. The one I questioned was:

    Pro Complex

    Optimum Nutrition

    Chocolate

It has 260 calories and 55 g protein... see below: And thats if you make it with water only not milk..

Please note: Nutritional content may vary between Pro Complex flavors.

  9. Hi,

Does anyone know of "ANYONE" who's had the Lap Band over a previous gastric Bypass????? I haven't read of anyone doing this yet... Although I know Dr O does perform this surgery.. I'd like to hear someone's journey... The surgery is 2 hours vs. 40 minutes so its not the same as just getting the band...

    Thanks,

    GinaBallerina

  10. Hi Gina,

I thought I would pass on some info. to you. My husband and I just returned from TJ where my hubby was banded on 4-14. While we were in the lobby a young lady came in for a fill and told us her story. She had had here gastric by-pass done when she was 16 years old, she had since put on weight and decided to have the sleeve put on by Dr. Ortiz. She was VERY happy and had already lost more than 20 lbs.

So good luck to you! And please know the entire staff, facility and the hotel were just wonderful!

    Take care, Renee'

Did she say why she waas getting the gastric sleeve vs. The Band ? I've read that the sleeve takes 85% of your stomach out.. Thats kind of radical to me... But to each his own I guess...

  11. Hi,

I'm new to this site.. I had gastric by pass in Feb. 2000. Lost 180 in one year... and by 2003 I started to gain weight back. I went back to the Surgeon who performed the surgery and he assured me it was not his fault but mine. My staples were still in tact but my stoma had stretched. I asked if anything could be re-done?? He said "No" and marked it down as a Weight Loss Failure...

I left feeling like a Failure... with no hope whatsoever. I've tried every diet imaginable... some work... but not very long. With the stretched stoma I'm hungry every couple of hours... Since Feb. 2000 I've gained back 100 pounds.. I have listened to countless people telling me the same story... Either the staple line broke or the stoma stretched and they have also gained back all or at least a significant amount of weight.

A Friend of mine recently told me she was getting the Lap Band. I had no idea you can now get the Lap Band over a failed Gastric By pass. In 2003 this was unheard of.. I researched Dr. Ortiz and he indeed does Lap Bands over failed Gastric By Pass Surgeries... This is only being done outside of the U.S.

I'm in the process of lowering my BMI to under 50 in order to qualify for the Lap Band. The surgery is more complicated due to the previous scar tissue from my old gastric by pass...

But at least there's hope for people like me.

I've lost 11 pounds in the last 2 weeks... and have 37 more to go in order to get my BMI down...

I'm eating 1000 calories per day to get there.... and its not fun at all...

I am not a happy diet - er..

My target date is the end of June 2008... Hopefully, I will be ready... I have 2 Friends that want the just the Lap Band and I'd prefer going to Mexico with them.

Again, i am glad there is Hope...

    Any encouragement is greatly appreciated

    Thanks
