  1. Hi Dawn,

Congratulations on your weght loss, 25 pound s is awesome... and not bein hungry is even better..

I have had my band now for 11 months and I am down 80 pounds.... My goal is another 25-30 pounds. I have only needed 2 fills(my last one being the begining of Feb.) and I have gone back to TJ for both of them... When I first had my band the fill centers did not have the best reputation( but I have heard good things about them recently)Even though its a 2 day trip I feel much more comfortable going back to TJ. Right now I have scheduled to go back but 1 day I feel like I need a fill and the next I don't so I'm not sure what I want to do.. Right now I am leaning towards going back since it will also be my 1 year check up..

As far as your meds are conerned. be careful what you are crushing.. some meds are NOT meant to be crushed or cut. It interfers with their absorbency.speak with your doctor first... some meds you can also get in a liquid form.

I have to admit at this point I can take some pretty big pills without difficulty , so my answer would be, not the rest of your life, but that's just my opinion.

Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing...

I had my surgery 11 months ago.. 9/18/06 and have lost 80 lbs... This will be my 3rd

( and hopefully last fill) It has only been recently that I can eat much more than I should be able to and I am desperate to get these last 25-30 lbs off.. How are things going since surgery??? If I can be of any help please let me know...

  4. Hi All,

I was banded by Dr. Ortiz, Sept.'06 and am so grateful for the band.... I have lost 60 pounds so far and feel great.

I have gone to TJ for 2 fill , the last one being early Feb.

But, anyhow, I have an aquaintance in Orlando who is VERY interested in having a band... She went to a doctor but he tried to talk her out of the band and was pushing bypass.. she is very certain that is NOT the route she wants to go .. I am looking for the names of Florida doctors who are pro band and might accept United health insurance...

Any names will be appreciated. Thanks for all of your input..

I am from the St. Pete / Bradenton area and would love to see a group of us get together and just have a social gathering.. ANy ideas or comments????????

  5. Sorry about the typos in the last post... if you are interested in getting fills done with fluro in Sarasota drop me a line \Peggy

Also can some tell me what "thicker"saline is and why that would effect the restriction in your band??? As I see it . the band is a balloon and so matter what you put in it the volume would be the same ....3cc's of saline is the same as 3 cc 's of water or apple juie or beer or whatever...

  6. I am from the Bradenton area and had my surgery done by Dr Ortiz in sept 06. I have currently lost 56 pounds with 2 fills I had done back at OCC,

I am trying to talk a group of Radiologist in the Sarasota area to get into the fill practice for Mexican patient.. Charge with fluro would be aout $300. Right now I am taking an informal poll to get an idea of how many people in this area would be willing to travel to Sarasota.. that way I can present a number to these doctors.. So, bottom line... ifn oyu would be willing to go to Sarasota for a flii under fluro for about $300 drop me a line...

    Peggy

  9. Anyone going for fill on Feb 3rd??? . I get to San Diego about 10 AM.I don't mind taking the trolley or sharing the cost of the van/ Thanks, Peggy

I may be going on 2/5 now instead of 2/6 Still arrive at airport around 10ish??? After reading many stories about the length of time waiting on weekends I think I will take the van .. Anyone interested in sharing a ride???

  10. Hi Deb and Paige,

I haven't been here for a while, just got back from visiting my grandchildren.

    How are you all doing?

Wasn't it wonderful to be able to start eating real food again???

I am doing fine here and just love the band..

I have lost a total of about 25 lbs. since pre op diet and about 14 since surgery. It all depends on the time of day and how much clothes I have on when I get weighed... but I can certainly tell by my clothes.

I am scheduled for my first fill in TJ on 11/10..

Keep up the great work and hope to talk with you all again soon.

  11. My husband and I are going to be there for our fills on November 11. We are coming and going on the same day. Anyone else?

    HI kcmomrn,

I am flying in on the 11th of Nov. arriving approx. 10 AM .. Appointment for 1 PM.. I was planning on taking the bus and trolley then returning to San Diego that afternoon.. Do they match your plans at all??

I am going to stay in San Diego overnight and fly out the next day..

    Peggy

  12. Hi Deb,

I am eating a lot of different kinds of soup. MOstly cream of anything, I have a Magic bullet and I put it in there and whirl away .. if it's to thick I add some chicken or beef broth and make it a little more liquified.

Another good thing is won ton soup without the won tons..

My problem is that I am eating more than a half a cup at a time... How are you doing with that?? Are we still suppose to be only doing a half a cup at a time??

I feel full on about a cup but then I"m hungry again in an hour or so.

I emailed Dr Miranda but never heard back.

What type of protein shakes are you doing to get so much protein at one time??? I'm finding it difficult to get 30 Gms in a day.

I lost 8 pounds the first week post op but now I'm fluctuating with the next 2 pounds over the past few day and I don't know if it's because of the creamy soups or what. Other than the soups I'm not eating much else except for a drinkable yogurt and whipped yogurt...

I use to be a VERY addicted diet coke. diet soda drinker..but the other day I found sugar free Diet Pepper, Diet A&W rootbeet and Diet Orange Crush flavored popsicles...

Have you heard from Paige or Alison or the other Peggy and how they are doing?

    Take care.

I made an appointment for my firat fill for 11/10 which will be 6 weeks and a day since surgery...

    Peggy from Fl.

    PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY

  13. When going out of the hotel if you turn lright and go to where the Aztec Indian is in the middle of the street and make a left, there is the grocery store. It is called Calimax and has many, many flavors. It is called Clight.. Also already made and sold most places is something called Belight which is the same thing..

The Pina Colada and Pink Grapefruit were some of my favorites. Each package makes a quart and a half and are only 38 cents each...

  14. Hi Everyone,

I arrived home late Saturday night....early Sunday morning .. it was about 1 AM.. I have been feeling fine, some tenderness at port site but that is it.

Deb, if you are still in pain and the toradol isn't helping definitely call... Dr Ortiz and Martinez were very matter of fact that if you have any questions to call them on their cell #'s.

How is everyone doing on liquids..

I really haven't been hungry with the liquids

I have a minor question... Post op instructions from Dr Miranda says..Drink no more than a 1/2 cup each time take small sips .. how often should we be drinking these 1/2 cups or less taking small sips??? Is there a total amount of fluid we should be taking in per day??

or just enough to keep your urine pale and not dark??

Question #2.. when starting on Day 8 of full liquids is that pretty much anykind of liquid??? how about regular yogart then??

Has anyone tried the whipped yogart as part of stage 2 eating???

Hope everyone else is doing well...

Anyone start planning for fills yet?

Lapoli, I was still at the clinic whenI saw you post op up and walking around just a very short while after surgery... goood for you.

Hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to hearing from you all.

    Peggy form Florida...

  15. Kevin,

I have just returned from surgery... done on 9/28 and Dr Miranda will tell you no ab crunches for 3 months but you can start regular exercises in 3 weeks..

As Claire said walk as early and as much as you can..

I was very fortunate not to have gas or shoulder pain.

I have just arrived home after a 12 hour trip from the clinic and I will admit I am a little tender..

so I am off to take some tylenol and to sleep / Good luck with everything and keep your positive attitude.

    Peggy

  16. Pegala - When I talk about my upcoming surgery (October 16) to others I just reflect back on Dr. Ortiz's C.V.. My mother and I sat down and went through his credentials as well as his experience with the procedure and I am hard pressed to find anyone in the U.S. that comes close to the expertise he has in this specific procedure. Many U.S. surgeons are doing the GB but don't have even a tenth of the hands on time Dr. Ortiz has with the lapband procedure. 4 of 5 the Physicians I spoke to here in the states said "Do it" and their reasoning was primarily the level Dr. Ortiz
