  1. I have decided to get banded!!! Yay me.... I will be banded on June 27th by Dr. Martinez. I am so excited yet so scared too!!

I have read so many good things about Dr. Ortiz. I will be banded by Dr. Martinez and wonder if anyone can tell me about their experience with him as your surgeon?

I am wanting to find other people that are going to be banded or filled on or around the 27th of June at the OCC.

Good Luck to all on your journey!

    Mammaof2wins,

Hi Yes I'm going to be banded on the 27th. I'm flying out of PDX on the 26th. Southwest Air at 6:05 flight #3070. That is so cool that your going on the same day and we are in the same area. :D I'm going by myself my husband we be staying home with our two girls. My plane gets into San Diego at 9:20am. B) So I'm sure I will be seeing you. I cant wait to meet you...

  2. I watched it tonight too, it's a good show but I really didn't like those doctors attitudes towards the band... I mean I'm sure they know best but it really seemed like they were pushing gastric bypass over the band. That woman who was 500lbs who came in asking for the band, they kept telling her that it wasn't going to be enough for her, and said that band patients only lose 40% of their weight and that bypass people lose 60%-80% I don't think that is an accurate statistic and they didn't even mention the long term benefits of the band..

That's my only beef with the show but overall it was pretty inspiring to see people's successes with WLS!

I thought the very same thing. But I really thought it was neat to see the Lap Band surgery done on a real person.

  3. I have just spent the evening waching the neatest TV show ever. I have seen a whole Lap Band surgery and Gastric Bypass inside and out. It is a show that follows really people on their surgery jorney. I have gotten so much information from this program!! Anyone wanting these surgerys shoud watch this show. I have Direct TV and it is on channel 280 TLC.

    Great Program...

  4. It's short for Productive Burp. It's what happens when you eat too fast and don't chew, chew, chew your food. After you swallow, or attempt to swallow, you can feel the food get stuck. Your mouth starts salivating and next thing you know the food is making a repeat performance. Some Encores are just not worth it!

    Hey,

    Thanks for the definition.

    Janell ;)

  5. I stayed at the Lucerna in March when I was banded and requested to stay there again for my first fill at the end of this month. I haven't stayed at alot of Hotels, but I thought the Lucerna was really nice and the staff were very helpful. I got to LOOK at the pool last time I was there and am hoping to get to swim in it this time. My daughter can't wait!! I've read that the other Hotel has a pool, then I read that it doesn't????

I think I wrote that I thought the Camino had a pool but I must have been looking at a different hotels photos. Sorry..

    I am Blonde

  6. Yes,, I've stayed at both hotels,, like I said,, their both good hotels,, I think the only differences are that the Camino is 3 blocks closer to the OCC. That's not that big of deal. The Camino does have internet,, but it will cost you $4 for an hour. The Lucerna,, its free and located just off the Lobby. The Lucerna has a pool,, the Camino doesn't. Alot of patients like the Lucerna because the staff is real nice and had been dealing The OCC patients for a long time. Returning patients get to know the staff,, people like to see the same faces. To me,, a hotel room is like a cruise ship cabin,, How long are you really in the room. I'm so busy when I'm there, I don't see the room that much. I don't think either of them will be a bad experiance for anyone staying there. If I was to say which hotel is better than the other, it would be a toss up. If I was to say which hotel has a personality,, it would be the Lucerna. I think the staff at the Lucerna is more personal. Now, Bandgroupie heard that they have made a decision to use the Lucerna,, You'll be fine staying there. I think it goes with the whole banding experience,, You come to Tijuana to be banded, you stay at the Lucerna,, everyone at the OCC is very nice and helpful,, Dr. Ortiz is the "Bomb", the whole experience is something your going to remember the rest of your life. And with the band inside of you constantly reminding you of your banding,, So in a way,, everytime you eat,, your going to be reminded of this whole experience. I don't know why the OCC was trying the Camino,, maybe there's something only they know about and we don't,, maybe the Lucerna was going to raise their rates and needed a reminder of how much business the OCC was giving them,, but I can say that the OCC isn't the only medical clinic in TJ that was using them. Who knows??? But you'll like the Lucerna,, I don't think anyone would have any complaints with either.

    Thank You.

That's what I wanted to hear. Just how you felt. =D>

  7. Hi Janell,

There are several of us in the Portland/Vancouver area. I will be banded on Friday and am going by myself. I am a little nervous, but very confident in the surgeon. (I also used to be a surgical nurse.) Please feel free to ask questions and I will let you know how it goes.

    Audrey

    Thanks Audrey.

I hope everything goes well for you I will be looking for an update...

  8. Today for lunch I went and got a baked chicken breast and baked red potatoes. It was my first time since this process started that I thought I was going to have a PBing moment. My bestfriend was taking to me and I wasn't paying attention to how I was chewing my food and then the pain hit. I stopped taking and she asked me if I was going to be ok. It left like an alien in my chest fighting to go down into my stomach. It really scared me. I had to breathe slowly and sit and think of relaxing my whole body so I wouldn't panic from the pain. Oh, never again!!!

Ladies stay away from the dry chicken!!!!!!!

I hope I didn't stretch my new stomach!!!!

    Maytee

I'm sorry I'm out of the lingo loop what is a PBing moment. :-?

  9. Jenell,

Whan are you schedule to have youre surgery.

    Denise

    Hi Denice,

My surgery is on June 27th. Do you have a date yet?

I still don't fell sure about either of the hotels. At this point I'm not really sure that Dolittle stayed at either hotel. He does'nt have anything to say about either of them that really seem to help me feel better about them.

I'm not quit sure whats going on there. :-?

    Janell

  10. Well I guess I don't know anymore then I did. Other then 5 star means nothing. What is a big yellow box Camino or Lucerna because Camino does have a pool from what I have seen on their web site. I really don't know what Dolittle thought about the hotel GOOD or BAD? It sounds like they both may not be as nice as I thought. Also do you go stright from the airport to the hotel or to the OCC I have heard both. I think I would like to get checked into the hotel befor I went anywhere else.

    Janell

  11. I did befor I came to this web site. All you have to do is spend a little time reading what people have to say about their surgery and how great it went for them. I really have not come across any bad coments yet..

I'm going in June and can't wait. I really did not know much befor I came here.

  12. Hi,

I did call today and set a date June 27th. I think I will be going by myself my husband cant get off work. I'm ok going by myself after reading all of the wounderful things that people have to say about OCC. I did find out that Dr. Ortiz will not be there the day of my surgery and so Dr. Martinez will be preforming my surgery. I guess thats ok. I have not heard anything bad about him.

    Thanks for the chat...

  13. Im just getting started here. I DO KNOW that I want to do this. I just don't want to do it by myself. I think that I would be go to Mexico. I can't think of going and not knowing a soul. I hear that you meet people and you just become like a family but it would be nice to know someone befor you go. I am in the Vancouver Washington area and have not come across anyone in my area that is in the same place in there life that I am. That is sick of being so unhappy with myself and really ready to make a change!!!

    Thanks for any thoughts..

    Janell

  14. Awesome information everyone! I've been very busy today as has my husband. We've researched all over the web and at local bariatric doctors. I found an MD in Spokane who would allow me to become a patient if I was banded elsewhere. His name is Dr. Lee Trotter. Anyone in Washington (or elsewhere) heard of him? Talked to Carolyn a couple of times. For people who have been banded for a while, how many adjustments have you had? I didn't find any negative comments/experiences with the OCC group in TJ. Once you made the decision to get banded, how long before surgery was scheduled? So far I'm leaning towards June if I decide to do this. My husband has more doubts about the discipline that is required afterward, and I am worried about my ability to refrain from eating and it seems that I have days that I never get full. Well enough questions for now. I hope that I can make the final decision in the next few days and be as excited as the rest of you!

Hi I am in Vancouver washington and am really thinking os getting a lap band did you ever get your is so how did it go and where did you go. Janell
