  1. During my second week post op on the liquid phase, I had horrible acid reflux.

But i took prevacid and mylanta and after a week it went away.

Then graduated to solid foods and EEK ITS BACK!

Did anyone else have this problem?

    My stomach constantly gurgles and

    have gas.

Is it the newness of solids after the liquids?

I can belive I'm saying this but I miss the liquid phase (well the third week anyway) and no acid reflux.

  2. During the liquid phase I was terribly moody. Sad, happy, depressed. lonely, angry. oh my god

And I couldn't concentrate on my work because all i had was liquid in the stomach.

I really really wanted food. (and yes i cheated a bit) I was angry at everything. And then the next day I was fine. And then I was weak

And its not just women.. cause I'm a guy.

    and im Kinda moody.

looking forward to Wed when I can legally have food again.

  3. Here are some great ideas to keep the liquid stage interesting.

    Egg drop soup

vanilla shake mix blended with cantelope and ice

    split pea soup

    lobster bisque

go to mcdonalds or burger king and get a milk shake!!

muslcle milk light diluted with a little water or milk and blended with ice in blender.

Your husband may be a shit but you have to take care of yourself.

    David

  4. I started back up with some chunky soup and I can't for the life of me remember what I had for supper! That's sad since I dreamed about eating for 21 days! LOL

oh my god! only 4 more days and I can eat and not feel guilty.

    really looking forward to that.

Trudy, I am going to have a hamburger (no bread), some vegatables, some fruit and maybe a baked potato when I can eat again

I have not had the stuck problem.

    OK here goes.

Lord (and lap band Nazis) please forgive me...... becuase duing the liquid phase I slipped

and had a burger, farina and the wantons in the wanton soup.

oh and also for the bread in the onion soup. oh and the croutons in my split pea soup which I asked the waitress not to put in

but apparently she forgot. Oh well.

It's just that solid food was the only thing to relieve the horrible gas and acid reflux i experienced during this liquid phase and post op.

I called the center and they were not really very helpful at this point. Dr So said that maybe Dr Miranda can modify this phase for you because you are having trouble. Dr Mirnda would not budge. So I listened to my body. It's my body.

I know some of you Lap Band Nazi's will really beat me up for this but It's too late; I already ate it. So get over it.

And if you were able to do this liquid phase without slipping...more power to you.

I have been generally good , except for the above but how exciting that in just 4 days... I don't have to feel quilty about a burger and croutons in my soupl

Did I mention I was down 13 lbs? So there you lap band nazis!

  5. Banded 6/4/06

    Weight 9/07 280

    Weight at Surgery date 240

    !st fill 8/17/08 2.0 cc's in 4 cc band

    Todays weight 228

Weight Loss in 2 months 12 pounds

Average 6 pounds per month since surgery.

Not as much as I'd hope but better than none. I also need to work harder to not binge on ice cream, sad but true. I tear up typing this. I must come to grips with what I want/need to do. I have not exercised much either. I just have NO energy whatsoever. Again sad but true. I barely make it through work. I have so much chronic pain I am unable to live life. I have been seeking medical treatment for almost 4 years now and nothing helps. Chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia SUCKS and yes it's real. So considering all that, I guess I am not doing too bad, at least I havn't gained up past where I was and AM losing. It could be worse.

Iti' s only been 2 and one half weeks.

    Down 13 lbs.

Can't wait til the solid stage.

  6. I had the same issue after getting banded. I was crushing up my blood pressure meds too. I finally realized it was my body getting use to the band. Something new in the system and your body will react. It took me a few weeks to adjust, but now it is just a part of me. I hope that this is the problem with you. If you still do not feel like you are getting any better go to the doctors. They can address your problem.

    Best of luck.

    Bobbi

I had it too. It seems to have gone away. Every now and then it comes back.

Only 2 1/2 weeks post op.

    13 lbs down

  7. Hi David,

Hang in there!!! You can do it!!

I have found that by having TONS of liquid options I don't feel deprived. Popsicles, drinkable yogurt, protein shakes, cream soups, egg drop soup, gatorade, lemonade, special k protein water, jello, etc. I am FULL and honestly other than the smell of food don't think about it. I am busy deciding what liquid to have next. Sure, I will be glad 9 days from now when I can start solids, but it is such a short time out of our whole lives...I can do it!!! You can too!!

I do admit to licking, chewing and spitting out 3 pretzels yesterday!! It was the smell when I opened the bag for my kids, lol

Well I haven't been perfect but here are some liquid fun stuff that have kept me sane and somewhat on track.

    egg drop soup

muscle milk light blended with ice and a little water or milk.

    split pea soup.

    lobster bisque

atkins advantage shake in a blender (vanilla) mixed with cantelope and ice

    homemade chicken soup strained

    and when really really desperate

and I have only done this twice but what a treat

a Burger King Vanilla Shake and a burger king chocolate shake.

  8. I thought the only time we were supposed to have these type of drinks were immediately following the surgery. I didn't think we were supposed to have them while able to eat solids. Am I confused?

If you are looking for something yummy to drink while on liquids, I was excited to drink a Jamba Juice. Not the one that you have make for you but if you go to their store, they have prepackaged juices. They are just like the ones they make you, yet thinner in consistency. I found mine in the produce section of my grocery store. THEY ARE SOOO Yummy and I feel like I'm getting a treat.

    230 calories

    1g fat

    60mg sodium

    51 carbs

    3g protein

At this stage of the game, that is all fine and dandy with me. When I get on solids though, these will be a no-no except ONCE IN A BLUE MOON. Hey, trust me, they are better for you than having them make them fory ou because then all those numbers double!

These are for the liquid phase.

Muscle milk light blended with extra water (cause its too sweet alone) and ICe--this was great

Vanilla protein powder blende with canteloupe.

And if I'm really really hungry Burger Kings Vanilla or Chocolate shakes.

    and

Egg Drop soup was a lifesaver. no chinese noodles.

  9. Hi, I am going for banding on 9/12 and can't afford to fly a friend or family with me. If anyone is going at the same time, send me a comment. It would be great to meet someone that I could share the experience with before arriving for procedure.

Went and got banded myself. Was scared! But there was safety in numbers--- eight of us that day. You really don't need anyone.

I met a girl who came down herself, we got banded the same day and we went shopping in Tijuana the day after surgery. You have nothing to fear.

Think of it as an adventure.!

  10. Hi there David. I can honestly say that for my 3 weeks of liquids only that I ate thicker chunkier food. I could no way have sucked stuff through a straw like they say to. I don't know what my deal was. I knew better but I ate little amounts of things like mashed potatoes and gravy, and also quite a bit of vegetable soups, potato soups pudding, and stuff like that. I did not put it in a blender and ate it slowly and chewed it up a ton. I was worried that I had damaged the band also and when I got my first fill...Everything was great!!! It is total torture to worry about this. We paid so much money for this band. What the heck were we thinking??? I had horrible gas pains from the surgery and it seemed the only thing that helped it calm down was food with substance.

I am not perfect and never will be. I am down 38 pounds and thrilled about it. (I can't update my weight loss ticker because I don't know my password) Duh!!! Anyways, that is my story and I am happy as heck with the results!!! Good luck to you!!! Natalie

    Thanks for being honest Natalie.

  11. Was good today and yesterday on liquids. Not really hungry.

The reason I ate some solids was that it was the only thing that calmed down the gas and acid reflux.

I hope i haven't damaged the band but I am going to be hopeful.

Is anyone else having trouble with this liquid portion?

The poster above with the mashed potatos---thanks for being so honest.

A Burger King Chocolate shake was my treat for the day.

    david

Thanks Natalie for being so honest.

    David

  12. Congrats to both of you. Stay strong on the liquid diet. I strongly believe it will tell the outcome of how successful you will be with the band. Good luck! :D

  13. Wow! I can hear the excitement inyour words. Good for you. We all have slip ups but its part of life, no one is perfect all the time. Keep up the good work!! :D

I too am two weeks post op. Trudy and I were banded on the same day. Then went shopping in Tijuana the next day . I had terrible acid reflux and gas for the first week but it seems to have gone away.

I sometimes get queasy and now its just my energy level. I can't work as many hours as I used too. I have slipped on the solids. I have confessed my sins to Trudy but had a good day today.

    I am down 12 lbs.

I am a bit worried that the solids I have eaten may have stretched the band.. but I guess I won't know for a while.

I haven't been the best. Does anyone know just how damaging solid foods can be to the band? I mean what percent of people have trouble

with bands if they haven't been perfect with the liquids for the first two weeks? I mean I had no trouble eating a piece of bread. ( i chewed it real good)

Today had lobster bisque (no solids in it) at Whole Foods--nice treat.

  14. I have set a date for July 23. I am sooooo excited, nervous, and questioning my decission but I have to do this to get healthy. I see a few of you will be there at the same time. I will probably be there alone so it will be nice to have some support. Someone to shop with. I am travelling from Calgary, anyone else travelling from this area?

    Trudy

    HI TRUDY

I am also being banded July 23 and am coming down alone. Maybe we can hang together after surgery and go shopping or at least walk.

you can email me at davidgoldyn@bellsouth.net. I am also scared
