  1. I know exactly what you are going through! I am scheduled to have surgery on 11/5 and it is all I can think about.....should I, shouldn't I, what if this or that and maybe I too can do it on my own......I'm driving myself crazy! Are they going to give your deposit back? Looking through the gallery and reading everyones success stories help me throughout the day are reassures me I'm making the right decision..........for that moment anyway!

  2. Hi,

I think it looks like you found the right spot for some answers.

I have not had the surgery yet, but I am booked for Nov 5th. I am excited and nervous. Because I have not had it done yet I can only share my journey so far and the research I did.

I too am doing this is be healthy for my children and I want to be able to run and play with them. Also I do not want them to have the same issues I have had with weight all my life.

I live in Canada and started to research having it done here. It is not covered under healthcare from the info I have found. It ranges in price but the average is about 17,000. I want the lapband as it seems to be the safest choice. With the other surgery where they insert the balloon I am told that you have problems like diahrea etc...

You still have to do the work with the band, but it is a tool to help you get the weight off and keep it off.

The more I looked into this the more I seen one name come up and that was Dr. Ortiz. I started to do some research on him and he seems to be the most experienced person. He has done alot of training of other surgeons in the States and Canada for this procedure. Simply, he is the best from what I have found. Also the best price. They are offering the surgery for just under 8000.00 right now. I hear his clinic and staff are fantastic and you are taken very good care of.

The one alarming thing to me was it is in Mexico. You hear all kinds of horror stories. Well I researched it all and feel quite confident that this is the best place to go for me.

I suggest you read alot of the posts on here and most of your questions will get answered.

You can also contact the OCC and they will give you any info you want. I also had a telephone consultation with a surgeon in Toronto.

Type it in on the internet and it is amazing all the info that comes up.

Best of luck on your decision, I hope some of what I wrote is helpful to you.

Hi Teyann! I'll see you 11/5 as that is when I am scheduled to be banded as well!

  3. Congrats on setting the date! This is an awesome journey. I should see you there as I arrive the night of the 6th. I can visit with you and tell you some of the stuff I have gone through. The liquid diet is imperative to stick to! and to be honest, that is all you will be able to handle anyways. YOu do not want to slip your band.

I have only told 2 of my closest friends at work. Most people are very ignorant about this procedure and then when you mention Mexico...OY, yoyo...I had to rip my step-sister a new one.

Thanks! I would love to get together and chat about your experience so far!

I agree, I’ve only told my husband and my best friend and it took a little time to convince them.

  4. I need reassurance from patients who have been to OCC Please!

I just paid my deposit and have a surgery date scheduled for 11/5.

I’m excited and scared at the same time worried that this is legitimate

I just need confirmation that it will be a safe clean environment etc.

If anyone would be willing to explain/describe their experience in detail – it would help me so much.

    Thanks!

  5. Hi,

I am also scheduled in Nov. I am new here and would love to hear everyones experiences advice etc...

I am scheduled on Nov 5th- I am excited and a little scared. There is so much info and I have so many questions.

I have two small children and I will be quite busy when I return home. How sore are you?

I was also wondering if anyone else was having problems when telling family that you chose Mexico? I am confident with my decision, but I sure have to do alot of explaining- so I stopped telling ANYONE.

Can anyone give me more info on the Pre-op diet? I am just in the process of getting all paperwork in and know very little about that part.

Also the smoking!!! It says you have to stop two weeks prior....any helpful hints or advice

I am scheduled for November 5th as well and am sharing your fear! I also have a 3 year old to return home to and am a very busy working Mom.

I have decided not to tell anyone that I am going to Mexico for surgery as I don't need any negative feedback right now.

Right now I'm nervous about the 7 day liquid diet- my problem has always been that I can't stick with anything for more than a couple of days!

I feel I'm motivated now though!
