My bf is trying to get me into Heroes, but I missed the first 2 seasons so I'm a little confused...

So I always thought that my teeth were decently white, but lately, I've been noticing in pictures, that some of my friends teeth are really nice and white! So I've been thinking about using those Crest Whitestrips. Do those work well? Are there any side effects? Or should I be going to the dentist to get them whitened? And how often should I get them professionally whitened? Do most insurances cover teeth whitening? I read your guy's talk about that Zoom Whitening, but it sounds expensive so I was hoping to go a cheaper route. Advice?
