  1. is anyone else having prob with not feeling full? maybe i am expecting too much. i was not measuring my food, sounds like i should have been. i tried eating till felt full, ate alot more than i feel i should have, frightened i am stretching out pouch. going to start measuring food instead of worring about anything else for now so if i have streached it will go back down. had fill under floro feb 26th 2009 haven't lost what i think i should have, only 3 or 4 pounds i think. doctor said can not have more fill without being too tight so i don't think that is problem ?!?!?? could be wrong i guess. i just never feel "full" i guess i need to be happy just not being hungry maybe i am expecting too much from band and not enough from myself

  2. I live in the Peoria, Il area, I do not want to go thru the trial and error of the blind fill for my first fill. I called around and found that the Methodist Hospital here in Peoria, IL has a "Weight Loss Surgery Center".

They are taking me as a "new patient" (had my surgery at the OCC in Mexico 1-6-09)

They do floro fills here in my home town - Woo Hoo

My first appt is Feb 4th (new patient exam) and will be ready for my first fill around the 24th of Feb

I will keep you posted as I learn more

Peoria has an airport for those looking for somewhere closer to home to fly or drive to the airport code is PIA

  3. Thank you for sharing what you are going through. My husband and I have had our share of problems, I think he too is a bit frightened as to how I am going to change as the weight comes off and I gain more self esteem and confidence.

Just remember if you do not take care of yourself, you can not take care of your kids. Teaching them to take care of themselves by example is a great gift

My kids have always done what I do, not what I said for them too. I truely believe our children learn by example

Hang in there, I hope he comes around for his sake....

  4. LaWanda,

Dont be too hard on yourself. I ate 2 potatoes bites out of my potato soup the other night - they went down fine - I was watching tv and didnt even realize i did it until it was too late

I am sure you will be fine - I cant wait for the soup to be over - I want scrambled eggs too - ive been craving them with cheese -

THANKS CHRISTY  TODAY IS 2 WEEKS POST OP - ONLY 7 DAYS TO A GREEN LIGHT OF REAL FOOD - WHICH IS WHEN I WILL HAVE TO REALLY KEEP EYE ON WHAT AND HOW MUCH I EAT- THE MENTAL HUNGER IS A ROYAL PAIN AND A DAILY BATTLE  -I AM TRYING TO KEEP MY EYE ON THE PRIZE - YOUR QUOTE IS REALLY GOOD - I KEEP REPEATING TO MYSELF :D LOL - I TOO CRAVE SCRAMBLED EGGS AND CHEESE - ALSO DYING FOR A TACO - NOT SURE WHY, I NEVER REALLY ATE THEM VERY OFTEN, DAUGHTER HAD ONE THE OTHER DAY AND IT SMELLED SOO GOOD LOL....THANKS FOR THE WORDS OF ENCOURAGMENT - LAWANDA

  5. I was banded at OCC on 1-6-09

I was sooo sick of soup pudding and yogurt, I wanted "REAL FOOD"

I messed up today and hope 1 cheat does not mess up my healing. My husband and daughter had fried chicken tonight, I took some of the breast meat and chewed it until it was like paste... I ate almost the whole breast b4 I realized I ate that much. :(

I am sooo upset with myself now. The more healed I am the more it seems to take to keep me from being hungery. I am learning to understand the diff between the hunger and just wanting something, I am really hungery, or at least I think I am....

I have been doing good until today and I just seemed to have no self control today. No reason why that I am aware of...

I will read the message boards for more ideas on something new to eat to get through this last week or so

On a side note, I invested in the bodybugg, I will let everyone know how it works out when I get it set up and start using it. I hope it really works as well as it is supposed to.

  6. Hello all,

I know that with all of our busy life schedules and all that it's normal to feel tired at the end of a long day, or when we don't get enough sleep, etc., but are there people here who just NEVER feel rested?

I'm a teenager--and I do have to admit that I'm stressed out a lot because of the workload in school, but other than that I'm healthy (now that I've lost the weight :). It's just that no matter what--whether I've slept 10 hours or 3 hours, or I've taken a nap or not, I'm just always exhausted. And I mean, like ALWAYS.

I have sleep apnea, but sleep with a machine, so I don't even know if I can blame it on that.

Could it be some sort of lack of nourishment from not eating all that much? I have no idea if it's connected, because I'll feel sick whether it's been 7 hours since my last meal or 2 hours, so...

Again, what I feel is not just a little sluggish, it's sometimes full on not being able to walk straight or see straight, even after a full night's sleep.

Just thought I'd put it out there.

    Thanks!

    HELLO

MY 19 YR OLD DAUGHTER WAS TIRED ALL THE TIME (DOES NOT HAVE BAND) AND WHILE WE ATTRIBUTED ALOT OF HER MOOD SWINGS TO BEING A TEENAGER AFTER TALKING TO DR FOUND OUT BEING TIRED ALL THE TIME WAS A MAJOR RED FLAG FOR DEPRESSION. SHE STARTED TAKING LOW DOSE OF ANTIDEPRESSANT AND SAID SHE FELT SOOO MUCH BETTER. SHE DID NOT EVEN KNOW SHE WAS DEPRESSED. I WOULD TALK TO DOCTOR LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HAS SAID AND IF ALL YOUR BLOODWORK IS GOOD MAYBE DISCUSS OTHER CHEMICAL IMBALANCE POSSIBILITIES WITH YOUR DOCTOR. ONLY A DOCTOR CAN DIAGNOSE WHAT WOULD BE CAUSING ... ONLY MENTIONED BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER IS SO MUCH HAPPIER AND NOT ON A ROLLER COASTER RIDE OF EMOTIONS ANYMORE. I HOPE YOUR DOCTOR FINDS WHAT YOU NEED IS A SIMPLE SOLUTION AND YOU FIND IT IS JUST A MATTER OF EATING HEALTHIER OR SOMETHING - BEST OF LUCK

  7. Hello,

Ive recently moved to the Dallas area and am looking for a Doctor to to an adjustment. I was banded in Mexico by Dr. Sanchez in 2002 and havent had any fluid in my band in a while, but im ready to lose some weight after having a baby recently. Any information you could give me would be appreciated! Thank you.

    Lynn

I FOUND THIS POST IN THE FORUM BY ANOTHER BAND BUDDY... SHE LOVES HIM AND I AM GOING TO GIVE HIM A TRY

    http://www.texaslapbandcenter.com/jay.html

    SHE INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING INFO...

Dr. Jay!!! He is at Medical City and he only does under flouro, he charges 250.00 for fills. He is amazing! He does them himself! He totally respects Dr. Ortiz (and Dr. Ortiz had great things to say about him too).

I love Dr. Jay & his staff and would recommend them to anyone! He also has monthly support groups at the hospital and some times offers a free fill if you attend the group! AMAZING! You will love his office! OH....he books quick, so make an apt. way ahead of time!!!!

YOU CAN THANK "DANA" FOR THE INFO...

HOPE THE INFO HELPS YOU - I KNOW IT DID ME

  8. :D

sooo good to know i am not the only one who misses the taste of food, i am not hungry, just crave the taste.

i find myself repeating over and over.... short term sacrifice for long term gain.....

i have preached it to my 19 year old daughter over and over (although it has always been getting her education and good job vs partying with friends and having a good time )

now it is time to take my own advice... make a short term sacrifice for a long term gain.... me and my health

tomarrow marks 1 week and i am hanging in there

I have been using the chewable anti gas "gum" and it helped a ton... they call it gum but it just dissolves to nothing

hope it may help you with gas pains

  9. I am a 29 year old female and I go for my first doctors appointment next Monday to start discussing the possibility of having the lap band surgery. I am currently 362 pounds. Typing that number and seeing it on screen doesn't even seem real to me. It's a weird thing, I have always been overweight and I know this but I have never really considered myself to be morbidly obese. Lately however I am getting to the point where simply moving around can be painful or too much work and I play out fast. I think it's really time to do this but I still have sooo many concerns and reservations. So many questions as to whether or not this is right for me.

Will I feel empowered by this choice or will I feel like I gave up on losing weight on my own?

After surgery you have a port just under your skin. Will I feel it when I move? touch it?

Can I still go jetskiing and tubing or will I dislodge the band?

Will I have a ton of flabby, hanging skin after a while?

    What are the side effects?

How fast will I lose weight and how much?

What else do I need to know?!

    I was banded on 1-6-09

I am soooo happy I did it :D , all the self disappointment is gone ><img src=<' />

FINALLY did something for myself to get rid of the weight and feel better health wise, and emotionally.

I was always upset that I did not ever do anything about my weight except eat to make myself feel better which we all know only feeds the neg. circle created.

Hope if you choose to have the surgery you will find the happiness I have found in my decision.

Finally, =D> , hooray for me, I took the first step to DOING something about it, instead of just wanting to.

The surgery is a breeze, I went shopping the next day, without pain pills. Sore yes, in pain, no, not for me.

Best of luck in your decision, for me... it is the best thing I have done for myself.

The OCC was fantastic, everyone was freaking out that I was going to Tijuana, MX - the OCC IS INCREDIABLE - COULD NOT BE HAPPIER

Do not doubt the OCC, they are in my opinion the best

  10. Hello To All

Well, I am have made it through day 6 and other than being sore when I bend over have no pain at all.

The OCC is AWSOME for those approching their date and the Hotel Lucirna (not sure if spedlled right) treated us like royalty. ANYTHING you want to know about area, where to go, what to do, just ask, they will tell you.

I had a hard time last night with craving something other than watered down juice, broth and a little yogurt. The broth just did not do the trick, I took some veg. soup and strained the juice off and drank that. Seemed to do the trick, satified my taste buds without messing up my liquid diet.

They said at the clinic clear liquid 3 - 7 days - on day four start liquid yogurt, since yogurt is not clear, thought adding one cup of drained veg. soup would not hurt.

If I am wrong please let me know.

Earlier today I had planned to go to the OCC for my first fill, I thought it was included in price of surgery and would only cost flight, I am not sure why I thought that but I was wrong. I found the post about new prices for fills. To get picked up at airport, taken to OCC for fill and back to hotel for 1 night and back to airport next day will be almost 300.00 plus a 6 hour 400.00 flight.

Instead I have given it alot of thought and going to try Dr Jay that Dana talked about in her post located in Dallas TX can fly in and land at 930 am and fly back home that night at 730 pm plus it is only a 2 hour flight instead of 6 so I will save over 400.00 which will pay for my 2nd fill.

I think this is a good choice, if anyone has any reason they think it is not please let me know.

I respect the opinion of those who have already gone through all this...

    thanks for the input

  11. Hello Everyone.... :D

Thank you for your responce... I did not think about it till one of the posts mentioned them being able to check my band before the 1st fill... while I am following the rules, I think I would have more peace of mind if I knew the OCC had checked it priour to the first fill... I too have always ended up paying more when trying to cut corners on cost and with my health on the line I think I will go back to OCC for my fill.

Thank you again for your answers, it does help to hear everyone elses experiance.

  12. :-?

I was just banded 4 days ago, Jan 6th, 2009....

I have a wierd/bad taste in my mouth what seems like all the time, I feel like I have bad breath all the time.

Is this normal? I am just not used to having food in my mouth all the time?

I am sucking on sugar free breath mints constantly... :(

  13.

I am struggling with what to do, it will cost about $500.00 for me to fly back to Dr Ortiz office for my first fill that was included in price of surgery, his office does under floroscope.

Below is the cost I have been quoted to drive 4 hours each way from the closest fill center to my home...

"The pricing for any provider in our network is $349 for the initial visit, which does include the first fill. The follow up visits are $165 for a visit with an adjustment and $85 for a visit without an adjustment. The price for the annual program is $1372. This includes 4 visits with adjustments and 8 office consultations. You do have the option of trading in 2 office consultations for 1 fill visit up to two times within this year. This would give you a total of 6 adjustments.

This provider doesn’t have access to the fluoroscopy.

What is everyones experiance with floroscopy vs non-floroscopy fills, do you have to go more often to find the "right" amount if not done under foroscopy???

Just banded on the 6th of January but want to book flight in advance if it would be better to go back and have done under floroscopy by Dr Ortiz' office

Anyone know of fill center that does under floroscopy here in states that may be cheaper to fly to than the 6 hour flight going back to Mexico?

I will do whatever it takes to try and get the right fit in the least visits as our money is very limited, it took me 4 years to save for surgery and first fill and I still had to finance some of it and my loan payments started this month. While cost is important, getting fills done right is more important.

Looking for the guidance of those who have gone through this already

  14. Before our recent trip for lap band surgery, there were several news reports about drug lords war going on in Tijuana. People beheaded etc Can anyone give me information on the area that the Lucerna hotel is in? Is it a safer area of Tijuana? We did not see any trouble in December, but did see Miliatary with guns while we were in a taxi returning to hotel.

hello - I was banded Jan 6th, 2009 and stayed at Hotel Lucerna... was thrilled at the royal treatment.. never been waited on so well anywhere. had no problems and did not hear of any trouble from groups coming and going in the days b4 and after my surgery. Clinic is WONDERFUL staff is WONDERFUL, cleaner than alot of places in the states and still warm and inviting rooms - spa like quailty.. hotel was WONDERFUL. Sooo happy I went, things could not have gone better - trip was better than I ever hoped for.

I hope all goes as well for you as it did for me

  15. :D:D

 My date is Jan 12th. I am having some anxiety. I am a little worried about my relationship with food, knowing how much I love to eat. I fear that I may have cravings that are unsatisfied, once I am banded. I think I need to explore more what food really means to me. I am also a little worried about the hunger that I expect the first 30 days. I don't worry about fluid drinking restrictions, such as during meals and so on, but do think I will miss having an occasional glass of champagne. Also, I have never been a water drinker, and know that this will take a huge effort on my part. Not to sound like a whiner, but I want to be in emotionally good shape before this surgery.

hello, i am new to forum - had surgery by Dr. Martinez in Dr. Ortiz office - went back to hotel and spent the night same day as sugery, did not need pain pills at all.

my 19 year old daughter and i went shopping all day today. i too was worried about food, still am a bit, however the stress and burden i felt

about not doing anything to correct my problem was worse

i am excited about my new journey and hope you do as well as i have.

even though it has only been a 1 day. the simple fact that i have taken the 1st step to a new self image has made me feel better about myself

    best of luck...
