I have an appoinment with the chiropractor at 2 pm today. Has anyone been to one since been bandded. Thanks

  2. I am going for my first fill here in Calgary to a Dr Phillip Mitchell. You may want to try him if you want a fill before going back to the OCC. He is charging $150!

I am very excited to get this fill as I have gained about 5 lbs since going on solids ...so I am ready to start losing again. I have been very irratable this week and I think it has something to do with the weight gain even though I am saying that it isn't bothering me...who am I trying to fool...that damn monkey in my head!!!!:)

I woke up yesterday morning and felt like a light bulb went off, I was going to kick this into high gear and get very serious about my goal of competing in a sprint triathlon this summer!

I joined Curves gym a month ago and yesterday had my first weight and measurements taking. I am down 3" and 5 pounds! I have only been going once maybe twice a week since then. I know I have to go at least three times to get the full benefit but with everything takes time to get into the routine! So when I got up yesterday I told myself that I would go three times this week, and walk my puppy 3 nights this week. That's it. I'm not going to worry about next week, one week at a time and before I know it I wont miss a day and going to Curves will be second nature! I tend to get overwhelmed, when I look at the big picture it just seems to be to much and i fail myself by just not doing it!

I am on the smart chip thing at Curves and once I was done my full body workout in 30min I had burned 975 calories!!! If i go three times a week that's a pound a week just by exercising! I know everyone probably knows that but when your a fat girl and a simple thing like working out three times a week for 30 min can burn a pound its amazing!! I love Curves the ladies there are so nice and its FUN, i have never said that about working out. I HATE gyms, cause i feel like I am the only dumb person there and everyone is so cocky and they all seem to be know-it-all's. I don't mean to offend any gym loving people, but the pressure there to be thin and ripped is just to much for me!

I am having a hard time with this first fill, i don't have any restriction and I cannot afford to go back to the OCC until June 6th for my second fill. So i am trying out the willpower thing! If nothing else i just don't want to gain between now and then. I wish there was a doctor here in Alberta that would do a fill for me!

My pants are falling off of me, my shirts I am swimming in them, and my winter jackets i could almost get a small child in there with me!!!!! I'm going shopping this weekend for a few new dress pants for work, how cool is that! I'm now at 249, I haven't been this small since I was 17 years old, 10 years ago!!!!!

I'm in such a good mood, on cloud nine, smelling the flowers (at Safeway, its still winter here) and looking forward to getting in shape and completing the triathlon this summer!!! Nothing is going to stop me now.

I have all of you to thank for getting me through the rough times, i might not post but I read this forum everyday and the topics, every topic, reminds me that Im not alone and I can do this.

Oh, tonight I am going to my very first OA meeting, cause YES, I am a compulsive over eater. And this band is a tool not the mental cure!

    LOVE ALL OF YOU,

    Jenelle ><'

  3. I am also nearing the end of my three week liquid diet and the gas pain has been the worst part of the whole process (though I would not trade it for anything as i HAVE LOST 24 lbs already)...the gas was so bad that by the middle of the afternoon I could barely take a breath in...it hurt so bad!!!

Nothing helped me...gas x strips, other different gas remedies...I was at the drug store everyday trying something new.

I started taking prune juice and benefibre thinking it would work the gas out... not really.

I started taking HMF Powwder (from a health food store) that contains acidophilus... a probiotic that helps theintestinal tract with good bacteria. It seemed to take some of that gas away...I have been feeling relief since I started taking it 3 days ago.

i hope this helps and I hope you start feeling better!

  4. I am 8 days post op and have been feeling all different things that I was not expecting. I have had a feeling of extreme bloated-ness...as if my stomache is going to burst. It is so uncomforatable, so I have not been getting enough liquids in, therefore feeling lightheaded, nauseated, and sick to my stomache. I have not been urinating very much and when I wake up in the morning it is hardly anything to speak of. I am assuming at some point I am dehydrated.

Today I forced myself to drink more and had to go the whole day feeling like I was going to burst. I am hoping this will go away soon and that it is nothing serious.

I emailed DR. Miranda and she said to gasx and hot water...I have done that and it does not help....

    It's hard not to worry!

  5. My instructions are almost a year old now but mine said: AT LEAST 30g of protein a day. It is okay if you get more than 30g of protein a day. That is the recommended MINIMUM amount. Also, I do not understand why you are saying you would not be able to have creamy soup or yogurt. Three 1/2 cup servings of food is not ALL you are allowed for the day, the 1/2c is the SERVING RECOMMENDATION, as in not more than 1/2 cup at a time to keep you from overfilling/stretching your pouch. Your body needs protein to heal. Your band is still healing in place.

As for the dehydration, try to keep sipping throughout the day. If you are bloated, check the sodium content of what you are drinking. I know broth has high sodium levels which make you retain water but you could just be bloated from the surgery still.

Anyway, I hope this helps. Maybe some of you more recently banded people can clarify what your instructions say.

    Dawn

On the last page of my post op instructions (the one that looks like a calander) it says "Do Not drink too much full liquids, three glasses a day is the average"

The way I am feeling drinking gatorade and water, I'm not sure I could down any more than that anyway, but I am defenitly concerned about the protein.

  6. Hey Brenda, I know exactly how you feel about the bloating.. I am 12 days post op and I'm still a little bloated in the evenings now, but for the first 7 or 8 days I was painfully bloated but it did go away, so I think yours probably will too. As far as the protein goes, I am definetely not getting enough protein at this point, but I don't think there is anything I can do about it. I can barely stand to smell a protein drink, much less drink one (even tho I am forcing myself), so I'm just trying to get through these 21 days of liquid. .

I've got to say that water is the one thing that is keeping me going at this point. Before this surgery, I was not on board with the whole "drink more water than a fish" idea, but now I drink as much as I can. Yesterday, I was not in a postion where I could sip on a bottle of water all day, and I could definetely tell it last night. My back hurt and I just felt like crap. So just remember to keep on sipping!!!

Probably the more experienced bandsters (i.e. Jazzyjude) will be able to tell you more ways to get your protein. Good luck and just remember, it does get better day by day!!!!!

Oh man...it makes me feel better that this may be a usual feeling...I was beginning to think the band may be too tight....I know I am still healing, but sometimes it's hard not to get freaked out by a new unusual feeling.

How are you drinking so much water? That makes me sooo bloated as well! I am bummed about that cause I usually drink a tonne of water (in my old life!)... could you drink that much water in the first week and a half?

  7. Hey Everyone!

I was banded 6 days ago! So far I am finding myself getting very bloated drinking my clear liquids. I was so bloated yesterday that I stopped drinking because it was very uncomforatable and woke up this morning dehydrated (feeling very weak, shakey and nauseated). Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how I can do something differently?

Also, I am starting my creamy stage tomorrow...yippeeeeeee! We are supposed to intake 30 grams of protein, but it says in our post op instructions to have only 3x a half cup serving of our creamy/protein liquids. By my calculation, a slim fast shake divides into 3 equal half cup servings...so this would mean 13 grams of protein only and I wouldn't be able to have creamy soup or yogurt????

I am sooooo confused. Help please!

    8. Work: owner of a cake shop...created it and built it from ground up almost 16 years ago! We specialize in doing art/drawing on cakes

    9. What was the deciding factor(s) on getting banded: being able to lose weight but never keep it off. Tired of shopping in the "plus size stores" where I can't find my style!!! I want to shop in the "normal" stores and feel good about the skin I am in!

    10. Interesting factoid: I never took maternity leave with my children...being a business owner, I worked till I gave birth and went right back to work a few days later...mama had to bring home the bacon ...and apparently ate it all myself!!!

    Thanks to everyone who shared!

  9. I have been following this forum for a few months to educate myself on this whole process... so thank you everyone !!! Your experiences, knowledge and communication has been such a great learning tool for me... not to mention putting me at ease on some days where I was having cold feet!

I am getting my surgery on Tuesday (Feb 3) ...3 more sleeps! I am in a panick though as i woke up with a cold yesterday. Usually when I get a cold it goes straight to my lungs and I end up with horrific cough...so needless to say, I am worried that this cold will end up the same way and I won't be able to have my surgery. I started taking COLD FX to try to stop it, but I don't think it is working. I was trying to stay "clean" during this pre-op diet, but broke down and took some tylenol cold as my sinuses are plugged totally.

Has anyone had this happen or heard of anyone that could not get their surgery done because of a cold??? I am so sad at the thought that I am this close and may have to postpone my surgery.

Any feedback would be muchly appreciated!!!
