Hi,
Yes, I just checked this with Carolyn this week. Absolutely nothing by mouth for the 8 hours prior to tests and surgery. I was trying to see if I could sneak in a little caffeine : )
Margie
They told me when they put you to sleep for the surgery your throat doesnt remember how to swallow so if you had anything within the 8 hours (even water) and by chance you burp or something while out, it could come up into your lungs and you can drown. Thats what they told me anyway at the Surgery Center i go to

My Husband has became OBSESSED with P90X and eating ONLY good foods, which is wonderful, very proud of him. If I want to cook something he wants to know how much protien, how many calories...blah blah blah...lol ANYWAY I LOVE sparkpeople and their recipes. I found a reciped called P90X Island Tenderloins !!!! HE was SO excited and told he EVERY one at work what we were having for dinner last night...lol Honestly, the BEST I have ever cooked!... and men say WE are the Drama Queens...lol

Thanks so much You completely answered my question
If you follow all of the rules and exercise, you will lose weight. Whether or not you will lose ALL of the excess weight that you want to lose will depend upon how committed YOU are to your lifestyle changes. In the world of weight loss surgery studies, a good result is a loss of at least half of your excess weight and a reduction in obesity related health problems. Our own expectations may differ considerably though. There are just so many personal factors involved in your question that really no one can answer it for you. It all depends on you and on your personal goals. How you define your success. Some people would be happy to lose 50 of the 75 pounds that they needed to lose and others could lose 100 pounds and still be unsatisfied and unhappy because they think they need to lose 15 more. We all come into this with a different perspective on what success is and we are all going to go about achieving our goals in our own individual ways. No two people are going to "manage the lapband" the same way.
People do gain weight back after lapband surgery just like other weight loss surgeries. You can cheat with a lapband. People do plateau. Some people never get fills and fail to use their lapband in that respect. Some people do not follow the rules. I DO NOT consider this as a lapband NOT working but as a lapband patient NOT working/using their lapband the way it was intended. The lapband will not fail, the lapband patient can and may fail to utilize their tool or even abuse their tool until it has to be removed or is rendered useless. And, of course, their will always be a certain small percentage of people who may reject the band through no fault of their own. This is a rare complication!
In my opinion, the lapband will work if it is cared for properly and used as instructed.

That didnt quite answer me question, Let me rephrase it, If i follow all the rules and excercise is there still a chance it will not work?
-
I just have to ask, After getting banded is it at all possible that you will NOT lose weight?
-
Am i the only lucky one who's insurance is paying 100%?

I must be very lucky, i told my immediate family and they are so supportive. I have decided not to tell anyone else, i won't lie about it but just not tell. It really isnt any one else's business

Tracie,
You can do it! Just follow the rules of the band and in no time you will be in smaller sizes...
I read that you will be getting banded very soon. :lb10:

In 3 days i will be going to get all my tests done before they schedule my surgery. Im so excited i can't hardly wait I guess i could tell you a lil something about myself. I am 34 years old and am married with 3 children. I hit 200 lbs in the 10th grade. 3 years ago i hit 302, i had to do something. I had diabetes and was miserable. I started the atkins diet along with my husband and in 1 year i lost 100 lbs. My husband lost 85. I could not for the life of me get under 200 and since then have gained 35 back. My husband was and still is very successfull with it. I found a weightloss center and have been ok'd for the lapband. Anyone have any suggestions or words of encouragment?
Thanks in advance:)
