  1. Hey Mon,

I was a little scared! I was afraid my stomach wouldn't really agree with "real" food, but did okay! The chewing...WOW....that's something to get used to!!

THANKS! How the heck does anyone manage to chew 30 times before swallowing?!?!?! I swear...at chew #15 or 20, half the bite has slid down my throat already! Maybe I'm taking too big of a bite....

It feels SOOOOO good to be in the land or "normal eaters" now! My co-workers have been calling me a party pooper for the last 5 weeks or so because of the pre/post diets. Now, I can finally accept a lunch invite and get out of the office for a bit. Not doing that too often & sticking to a third of my normal meal will be a challenge. I'm trying to eat slow & steady now, so as not to get to the point to where my stomach would allow me to eat that much again!

    Can't wait for that fill!!

    Hey.

Well, I had half a can of progresso tomato soup with 4 crushed ritz crackers in it and 5 blackberries. I drank a capri sun with it without thinking but so far I feel ok. My husband wants to take me to dinner.... yikes.... I didn't think I would be this paranoid about eating even though I get hungry.

I just don't want to get back into any bad habits after doing so good on the 21 days. I lost 14 pounds and am dreading the scale tomorrow because I know it won't be going down after eating today.

Oh, yeah, then I had 5 keebler peanut butter crackers an hour later..... crap....

    Mon

  2. I concur - itching is a sign of healing. BTW, I can feel my port, too.

Itching means it is healing. I'm on my 22nd day and the glue is now finally gone from all the incisions and all the skin is now bonded together. Just be careful not to scratch any of the incision sites. I just washed mine with soap and water and let the healing take it's natural course. I did use bandaids a few times so my jacket or shirt wouldn't rub on them when they were sensitive.

    Mon

  3. Thanks, Carrie! I SOOOO wish this band made me dislike Mexican food, but no such luck so far! Trying to not mindlessly graze on chips & salsa will be hard!

    Hi Charelle,

I had my skim milk with my carnation this morning. I'm scared to eat. How did it go? I am afraid of choking or throwing up. Did you chew forever and did you drink with your meal?

    Mon.

  4. Thanks everyone!!! Man, I can't wait! Even simple things like a scrambled egg sounds SOOOOOOO tasty right now! I'll probably wake at the crack of dawn just to get my morning breakfast ready!! WOO-HOO!!

    Hi Charelle...

I am on the same day as you. I have been doing really good but this week, I have been wondering the same thing. I know this is baaaaad, but I am craving a bite of a warm apple fritter and I miss my pasta.

I'm just hoping I get full fast so I won't get too crazy. I've lost about 13 pounds so far. It's been going down about .2 to .4 lbs. a day. My husband is bragging on me and that's pressure enough not to gain weight back.

Planning meals is probably the way to go so you know what the next meal is instead of going for some bad craving. Sounds like you're doing good. :)

  5. Red, you are lookin' good girl! :D

    Hi Dave..

I was there with you in the lobby and next to your room and walking the halls the same time as you. I was wondering if you were on here posting. Sounds like you are doing good, me too. I totally loved the broth at Lucerna too. I think you said you didn't like broth that morning, and the next day you told me that you loved their broth. lol..I didn't know you were bruised. I had none. I meant to get your email when we left at the same time but didn't have any paper or pens. Glad you're on here. We had the same experience, although I had my husband with me who is a physician and was in the operating room with Dr. Ortiz and commented how great of a surgeon he was. At least I had that support. I was one of those who thought Mexico - no way. You were alone. Glad we met and experienced the same thing on the same day.

Want to know your progress... keep posting.

    Monica

  6. I tried the liquids and almost threw up so I stopped. I do the chewable centrum and they are fine kind of an orange taste to them. I got a sample of the bariatric advantage from my fill dr and the grape ones were OK for me. I'm also about to start Juice Plus and do their chewables.

Everyone is different so you just need to find the ones that work for you. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I was told to crush all my meds for the first 21 days, absolutely no food, liquids only, nothing mushy even, no chunks should be going down my throat and that it was critical to follow directions the first 3 weeks. I am just trying to do the right thing.

I also take other meds that are prescribed so I have to crush those. They are horrible. I crush the Flinstone vitamin separately and drink it with juice, it's not so bad. I am waiting until I can finally just take pills normally.

I wish they did say I could just take my meds normally, but am too afraid to go against their advice.

  7. Hi Mobs!

Oh my goodness, I'm SOOO addicted to the food network lately!! I've been collecting recipe after recipe! My family is happy because I do cook more! I hate to say it, but on most nights, I opted to make a quick hamburger helper meal or frozen family dinner. Lately, I've actually been slaving over the stove & adding actual ingredients besides ground beef! I also have a stash of recipes that I'm saving especially for when I get to start eating "real" food again!

Since we're now on day 11, I've been jealous that I can't eat any of what I make for my family, but I did realize how satisfying it is to make it for them.

This is horrible, but I have October 8th circled on the family calendar with a big "Yolanda's" written across it! That's our favorite Mexican restaurant in town, and that's where we'll be headed for dinner that night!!! I've decided I'm going to bring 2 Gladware containers (save the environment!) and when I get whatever meal I get, I'm going to immediately portion it into 3rds and put 2/3 of it in the containers & put them to the side. That way, I know not to eat more than the "1/3 of what I usually eat", and I already have lunch for the next couple of days packed up!

I've lost 14lbs. post-op so far, but I know that with the heartier/creamier soups, I'll probably slow down in weight loss or even gain! (ugg!)

I can't believe I missed everyone while I was at OCC! I swear I felt like I was the only person there! I may have groggily saw someone while I was shuffling around the hallway with the nurse, but it's all a blur now!

What day did you go home?

    HI. LOL.

I went home the next day. Fransisco drove us at about 8:30 - 9-ish to the airport. He dropped off two girls first and I'm pretty sure one of them was you. I have also cooked for my family. Thank God I'm not alone. I am making homemade lasagna tonight. I made a big bowl of fruit salad for them, which I wish I could have. I think somehow the smell of the food and doing the cooking makes you feel like you are part of it and then when you have your broth, it's not too bad, if you have broth you like and not just to be having it cuz you have to.

It will be interesting to see what I will be craving the first day, but for now there are so many foods dancing in my head. Food channel is my favorite, but I have to suck on a popsicle or two while I watch some of the shows.lol... So far so good.

Your dinner sounds like a good plan. I will keep that in mind to portion first. My husband is laughing and says the food bill will be going down and he might lose weight too if we go out and split meals.

I am trying to make my plans for my first fill already. I plan on 6 weeks to the day so it will be the 29th of Oct. I thought about getting there early and leaving late the same day, just waiting to hear if that is ok from OCC.

  8. I cannot stomach the liquid vitamins. Finally got th Flinstones chewables and crush them up. I have tried to disguise my vitamins and crushed meds because I can't stand to take them that way. I've tried juices, hot tea, coffee, and have finally decided that a teaspoon of honey helps them go down smooth and almost tasteless. Is that a bad thing? I am waiting until the day I can finally take the pill forms again. Please let me know if there is a better way. I know honey is not the best thing for a diet.

  9. Oh Dave....you HAD to mention pizza!!!! Is that my stomach grumbling again?!?!?! Off to drink more soup.... :D

HI! I was there with you and Dave. I was in the corner room, lol. I had surgery about 1 p.m. That's cool. I left the same day at about 5. I just started the drinkable yogurts Thursday too. I really like having the cup of milk in the morning with Carnation Instant. It keeps me full for a long time. If I do happen to get hungry before lunch (broth or strained soup) I have those frozen tropical ice pops. They are way good. I have lost 12 lbs. since that day and am anxious to get the fill. I know I have to wait a few more weeks. I also suck on sugar free candy when I'm hungry so I feel like I'me having something without chewing and it lasts a bit. I have been drinking those Capri Suns (about 3 - 4 a day). I have been drinking the broth of Won Ton soup which is sooo good, if you like that stuff. I do throw the won tons out. lol. dammit. I am reading all the comments I can so when I get the fill, I won't be so nervous. I have had dreams of cooking so many different things. Has anyone else been in the mood to do more cooking? I have watered down pineapple juice, which I love. I drink all my drinks with a straw to remind myself to sip. I haven't burped as much in the last few days, which is nice. My big thing is What am I going to eat first when I get to that special day? LOL. Any ideas? I can't get the warm apple fritter out of my head. OMG.

    Glad I found you guys.

  10. I burp A LOT. It is ofen hard to do it quietly haha so I walk away and do it when no one is around. Also, I learned this last week. I am one of those who spits up a lot. Do not attempt to spit up and swallow. I was at a dinner with a friend and didn't want to get up so I just swallowed it. Arg, it hurt, I could barely make it to the bathroom in fear of spitting up on myself.

I found it... LOL... Burping and gas are something that I thought when I did it, it was a rare thing... I am doing it every day all day... what the .... Just got banded September 17th, 5 days.... Have been sticking to the liquids.. except one thing I did yesterday was suck on a hard candy, sugar free and fat free... was that okay? lol... at least it tasted good... Never thought I would love cool pops so much.. watermelon, yum...
