  1. Hi!

I just flew home yesterday after staying there a week. No problems at all. There was road contruction going on, but I didn't hear it much and, as of yesterday, they were finishing up the part directly in front of the hotel.

    Good things -

The juice - I would order apple or cranberry, and it always tasted awesome if a bit sweet. I would usually have a half empty water bottle with me to pour what left overjuice I had into it, to take back to my room.

The Bed - I tend to be pretty picky (I have a Tempurpedic at home), but I thought the bed was really comfortable. I did bring my own pillow.

The staff - All you have to do is say "OCC" and they know you want broth and juice, or a ride to the clinic. Easy peasy.

No so good things (but nothing too big)-

The gym - I spent time there every day since I felt better if I moved more. The gym has a funky smell to it. Maybe a bit stale or moldy, or maybe it's a sweaty/moldy smell. It always smelled the same, never like it had just been cleaned.

The chicken broth - Once in a while, it really tasted like chicken and I enjoyed it. But more than half the time, it didn't taste like it ever had chicken in it and was really oily. When that happened, I used the coffee maker in my room. Poured bottled water into the pot and turned it on. When it was heated, I used a coffee cup and sprinkled in boullion granules (ground up, not cubes) to taste and stir. Much better!

One last thing...when I first got there, I asked the front desk to send someone up to unlock and empty my mini-fridge. It was nice to have it keep my water and juice cool during my stay.

  2. Not sure what kind of environment you are working in, but that seems like a breach of confidentiality on your boss's part. Is there an HR department that you can request input from? I know that means at least one more person knows, but if they can tell her she is not allowed to share that info, you have your solution. Me, personally, I would tell her my plans had changed. Maybe I couldn't get the funding. Or I'm just going to diet and exercise, surgery is too scary. BUT that I still plan on taking the time off and meeting up with my friends. Maybe she figures it out later, but then there's no reason to talk about it months after the fact, right? Good luck!

  3. I was interested in the sleeve because there is no need for fills. When I'm working in Alaska, I'm on a boat. We don't get off the boat for 3 months or more, unless we stop in Dutch Harbor for some supplies or something. Pretty much we just get on in Seattle and get back off in Seattle however many months later. Also, I work with a gal who got the lap band in Mexico (not sure where), but she had major complications (not even being able to keep down water) and had to pay to fly herself out more than once. Not only are you ill, you're having to take a small boat to a village where a 2 seater plane "might" fly out of and take all day to get back home. Plus it usually costs $1000 or more for airfare and who knows how long before they will let you come back to work. I'm just worried about complications or needing a doctor's care when I don't have the options available to me for months at a time.

  4. Hi! I'm considering the sleeve and was wondering what the first month or so after the surgery was like. Also, since I work in remote areas of Alaska for months at a time, how much time I would need at home before I wouldn't really have to worry about complications. I don't have to go back to work until January (for crab season), but since I probably couldn't get everything in order for surgery for at least a month, I feel like I'm running out of time. Would 2 months of "learning the rules" be enough, do you think?
