Dear Canuk,
I am from Houston, Texas. However because of work I am only there less than 4 months out of the year.
I too am still undecided between plication and the regular sleeve, so do not be worried there.
I have done a ton of research and am very confident of the decision to go with OCC and Dr. Ortiz.
I am excited that I may have someone there. I arrive at 3:30pm on October 31st and am staying at the Marriott.
What is good about the plication is just like the lapband it is somewhat reversible. Some people do not decide until after they have spoken with Dr. Ortiz.
Please stay in touch and let me know if you are coming.

Nicole, you will have to purchase a spirometer at a drug store. If you do not have one I was told to blow up small balloons in 2 or less breaths 3-5 times a day. I hope this helps.

Thank you for all the tips, sounds like I should not worry about bringing anything from home.
I am getting a little anxious as I have not found anyone on any forum having surgery on my date, it would be nice to have a sleeve friend. OF COURSE I have many sleeve friends here on the forum and it is a great comfort.
Again thank you all for the above advice.

Good Afternoon All,
It is 26 days until the big sleeve day with Dr. Ortiz. What are the must have items to bring besides the obvious tolietries and clothes. I am staying at the Marriott and I am unsure if they have a microwave or refrigerator, does anyone know? I am unsure if I should bring my own soups, etc.. What did you find you could tolerate the days after surgery? Getting a little nervous as I will be by myself and want to stock up on everything so I am not running around TJ to get all my supplies.
Also I am a wuss with pain, what pain meds do they give you via IV and after?
This site has been so helpful and I thank you for your replies.

Dear Call me Crazy,
I am an HR Manager and this is a violation of the HIPPA law (please tell her to look this up)
She at no time is obligated to tell anyone of your medical condition or that you are having surgery.
She simply has to say you are on leave. Do you have an HR department? If so I would certainly speak with them.
Hang in there, one of my favorite sayings is common sense is not common.

I am a little worried with protein as I am a bit lactose intolerant and most shakes are not friendly to my system.
Are there any alternatives anyone recommends? I have even thought about putting whey protein in soup?
Also I have read many no no foods for bands, but are there are there foods that anyone has found difficult to digest? Thank you again for any assistance, this forum and the users has been extremely helpful.

I have finally booked my VSG on November 1st and will be going by myself from Texas.
Is there anyone else booked on this date? If so please contact me, as I am growing ever anxious.

I am in the same "boat" so to speak. I work on a cruise ship and it is impossible for me to get fills as we travel all over the world, it is the reason I am chosing gastric sleeve. I am a little worried about the recovery as medical care is limited on the ship. I have the exact same fears.

I am going to Tijuana on November 1, 2010 to get VSG with Dr. Ortiz; however I am looking at plication.
I am 37 years old and My BMI is 45 , I have about 110 pounds to lose.
I am very anxious, but looking forward to changing my life.
I would love to hear about anyones experience with OCC and Dr. Ortiz and the sleeve surgery.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide a very anxious lady some support.
