  1. OK so, I have not have my band done yet i am schedualed for february and I still have doubt as to whether I should be banded versus bypassed. So a brief overview; I am 21 and at 267, The problem is I have a very very veyr slow metabolism and unfortunatley dont eat very much at all throughout the day but I am still FAT! If I was to get the band would this probem be solved? or better will I still loose weight or be cursed with the same problem??

  2. You all seem so happy with Dr. Ortiz, my insurance approved me right away (Oxford) it took them 4 days to aprove it and they are paying the entire $25,000USD if i decide to do the operation. But im a chicken and if I do decide to have surgery - I dont know if i should do lapband or just get the laproscopic bypass done - i mean if im goign to do it i should just go all the way right? well i dont know but im a chicken! a fat one! I just dont want to have the lapband done and then god forbid have to have another surgery to take it out! Any suggestions?

  3. Were you banded by Dr. Ortiz? cause if you were why are you eating ? we are to be on a liquid phase then introduce tomato and shakes back in but no solids till I believe 21 days?

i have not been banded yet but from what i hear you hsould be on liquids and The unrestiction is normal right after surgery, you have to wait 6 weeks to get a fill so you can feel the restriction

  4. Im not sure if anybody will read this before I leave for Mexico 11/23, but I will post it anyway. I am having a problem with my pre-op weight, I have done what I am suppose to and some. I have only drop maybe 5lbs, I am scared my surgery will get postponed. I think my meds just havent help with me trying to lose weight. I am freaking out because I want know until I get there. Any words from anybody?

    Thanks

This is confusing to me, why do they want you to loose weight before the sugery? My doctors office told me to gain 10 lbs to get my insurance to cover its.... Does this mean that they are now going to tell me to loose this weight ebfore surgery?????

  5. Are you in pain after the surgery? I can't speak for anyone else but I had no pain at all except for tenderness at the port site.

    - Have you lost a lot of weight? and was it hard?I have lost enough to be satisified at this point. Weight loss is always a commitment and the band is only a tool. It is placed to help us, but it doesn't do all the work for us.

    - how often do you have the band ajusted?every person is different. There is no way to tell in advance how many fills you will need to reach your sweet spot.

    - are you glad you did the surgery? VERY

    - is the recovery tough? vomiiting, pain, tired? My surgery was on Friday, I went to work on Monday. No vomiting, no pain, and I was a bit tired, probably due to the liquid diet.

    - are the scares bad? I assume you mean scars? not bad at all

    - can you see the port when you lift up your shirt? No

    - do you have alot of saggy skin?I still have alot to lose so this remains to be seen. I am working out to minimize this problem, but I see saggy skin as way less of a problem than this weight....

My Dr. also would have prefered I do gastric bypass. I refused and I am glad I did. I recently heard of one hospital in the US that has quit allowing bypass and now will only let physicians do lap band because of the amount of complications associated with bypass.

Hope this helps a little, at least gives you an idea. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do and be sure to do massive reseach before you have any surgical procedure done. Nita

WOW you lost almost 50 pounds since September thats sounds good to me, and thanks for answering my questions it did help. Also, I see alot of people are almost at their goals but has anyone actually reached their goals 100% and if so how long? ANyone have a problem with slippage or erosion with the band?

  6. I am very strongly considering getting the lap-band done and im just scared because i ahte pain. I hope you dont mind me asking you a few questions that you have probably been ask a million times!
