I am scheduled with Dr. Ortiz on October 4 for my lap band surgery. I am wondering if I need to brush up on my Spanish and.....I am wondering about currency. Can we use U.S. currency for shopping, etc.....or do we need to exchange U.S. currency for Mexico currency (pesos????)

I agree. My decision was based more on the experience of Dr. Ortiz......the difference in costs was a small factor....but did weigh in to the picture a tad bit.

Based on US costs......I finally determined that I could see Dr. Ortiz for the surgery and travel back to TJ for the fills......and still come out ahead on the money end.

I have arranged after care with a doctor in St. Louis in case of an emergency. And, I will also make arrangements with my PCP in case of an emergency.

I have priced airfare.......I think I can get a ticket for about $300....maybe less.

Hello fellow Dr. Ortiz Bandsters!

I am scheduled with Dr. Ortiz for band surgery on October 4. My husband is traveling with me for the surgery. I will be traveling solo to TJ for the fills. These posts on the fill process have been most helpful.

I think I am most worried about traveling to TJ from the San Diego airport by myself the first time. but.....after my trip for banding......I bet many of my concerns will be alleviated once I get the lay of the land, so to speak. (I am from Illinois....land of corn and bean fields!).

I hope to have the lap band procedure mid-September. We will not have access to the cash until that time.....otherwise I think I would have it tomorrow. Anyone out there familiar with any fill doctors in Illinois??? Please drop me a reply.
