  1. THAT is terrific...

Can you post the top 5 things that you have learned from the band...

    Kim rolleyes.gif

    1. Do not ever take it for granted.

    2. Always remember it's an amazing TOOL that you must always use correctly.

    3. Follow the guidlines and listen to your band and re-read book "Lapband for Life"

    4. Use floroscopy because seeing my band working live gives me a visual confirmation.

    5. Be aware that the band can change as your body changes.

  2. A little over 2 1/2 years later I lost more than my goal weight of 150 lbs. I now weigh 135. I am in the normal weight range which I have never been my whole life. Although now I feel my band has changed maybe from the weightloss? Not able to get food down as easy. I will make a trip to OCC maybe in Feb. or March. Weight has been coming off quickly the last several of months. I have had some soda but not much. So hope band has'nt slipped. Also been craving sugar.

    I really blew it!!

I was completely restricted probably since Late Dec. maybe even Nov. Nothing was going down not even my medicines were absorbing I have been on for 20+ years . Made a apt. at OCC Feb. 25. I was dehydrated and weak and extremely tired. Flouroscope showed my upper stomach was a little stretched so had to be unfilled completely. Must be on liquids for 8 days plus Mylanta. Have to give stomach time to heal and if it doesn't I will have to have band removed. It has been 7 days and I feel so much better and have put back on 20 good lbs of liquid. (in one week) I should have went in earlier but didn't think it was serious. Now I know. Listen up everyone. DO NOT WAIT. If you think something is wrong it probably is. Dr. Ortiz came out to say hello and said I was lucky and to take care of myself. It's kinda nice not having any restriction. I don't have to worry about anything coming back up. I will be very careful though. Sue

  3. Thank you Kristi,

I was wearing a 3x or 24-26 and now I can wear a size 10 pant and medium top. I am glad I can sew so I can take in my clothes intead of having to purchase all new. 20 lbs of weight came off in the last 3-4 months.

Besides being freezing all the time, stopped snoring, stopped urinating 3 times per night, not out of breath at all.

  5. Hi Sue

I am flying the 20th sorry, I probably wont see you, but I am also from northern california, I fly out of Sacramento is it any where close? maybe we can do a fill or get together for soup.HEHE When was your surgery? Tammy:)

    Hi Tammy.

My surgery was April 17,2007. Have lost 55 lbs . I fly out of Oakland. I live in Oakley on the Delta. Flights have been pretty cheap with Southwest. I got a Sat. flight at $39 ea. way. I have hit a plateau since Sept. last year but going to the gym has helped me loose alot of inches. I gone from a 2xl-3xl to a xl or L sometimes. I am still not sure what size to try on. This will be my last fill for awhile since I am still restricted but my stomach has expanded. This last fill will I hope will get me past my plateau. the fill does help curb the appetite. Where do you live? Is this your first fill?

  6. Hi -can i ask what you mean by the bus and trolly? how much does it cost? i had a terrible experince with the pickup and drop off with the van and am trying to see what other options are. can you let me know?

Also Bella, there is a information booth at the airport right across from luggage p/u and they will have all the info for the trolly and bus. Just ask. Good luck.

  8. for the last 5 days i have had severe reflux, it wakes me up art night.i can't keep anything down. i went to doctor and he felt like i did not slip, he took .25 out and gave me reglan and protonics to take. has anyone ever had reflux this bad and it NOT be a slipped band???

Try 1-2 GasX strips at night. It worked for me.

  9. You'll do fine on the plane on the way there. Try to just stick to the liquids, but if you eat a couple of crackers or something you won't die. Just substitute the calories you would have had if you were having a protein shake. The important thing pre-op is the calorie restriction. Dr. Miranda will answer all your questions when you get there too. You'll be fine!!!

As for when you travel post-op for work, I don't know. If you travel on long flights internationally while you are still on thie liquid diet then you should probably check with the airline about being able to get special permission to take shakes on board for medical reasons. There has to be a way around that with a doctor's statement or something. There may be something on the TSA website about that.

Good luck with surgery! You'll be fine!

Ps. I HIGHLY recommend taking liquid tylenol with you. It worked better for me than the pills they gave me! Just make sure you have it in it's own quart size bag. I didn't and got scolded by the security lady, but she let me take it through anyway.

    Again, good luck, Danielle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You could bring the single powder packets and your own disposable cup and mix it on the plane and if you ask they would probably keep it in a fridge for you .

Also a little tid-bit of info, if your surgery is the next day you get to go out and EAT after pre-op tests. A treat before the band.

  10. I suggest if you will be by yourself to pack VERY light. Will someone be helping you carry luggage? If I didn't have hubby, I don't know what I woulda done about all my souveniers and stuff. I could not have lifted those suitcases on my own. (my purse even seemed heavier lol)

Not sure if you or family will be making any calls, but from the hotel it is like $2.00 a minute. I had wished I had one of those $5.00 calling cards you can get at gas stations and such here in the states. The cell phones have a full signal and accept incoming calls but we couldn't make outgoing calls. You will be able to call for free from the hospital but not the hotel.

Everyone already mentioned everything else I would suggest...maybe a pair of flip-flops for your room. They do give you slip-over shoe cover things but they aren't real shoes. Take maybe a sweatshirt for chilly plane rides and evenings, reading material and that's it.

You are allowed one quart size bag of 3 oz or less liquids in your carry on. If you check it in you can have 2 pieces per person up to 50 lbs. each!! Good luck!!

Also remember Tijuana is next to the ocean, it can get cloudy and chilly. I brought to many shorts. My nextel/sprint cell did not work. If you check in a suitcase you dont have to worry sizes of bottles and liquids. The driver Francisco (I think that's his name)always picked up my suitcase to load in the van is very nice (tips welcomed). Sue B)

  11. :-? How did you call family and friends to let them know you were all right after your surgery? I plan to take my cell phone with but, will I need an international calling card? I hope I won't have a problem call my husband or my parent's back in the States. What did you do?

    Kelly C.

    To be banded 4/26/07

    Kelly,

Once your in your private room you can make free calls. I did not know this and spent $10.00 at the hotel. Also you can use your cell phone. Our NEXTEL phones did NOT work but other cell services did.

    Good Luck, Sue

  12.

    Hey Sue, :-h

We are flying in around noon from Vegas. This forum is great for any one concidering this type of surgery reguardless of who they are having it done with. I also was starting to feel very anxious, about the surgery in general. So nice to hear from others that are going through the same thing. See you in TJ next week. ;)

I am getting anxious now, also I am not loosing as much as I should only 6 lbs so far and I started early. THIS IS WHY I NEED A BAND!! I hope they wont reject me. Doe anyone know of anyone that was turned away? I think I'm getting a little paranoid. I need to stop.

Also can you drink the hotel water? See you there.

    Nervous Nellie, Sue

  13. Fly into San Diego Tues 17th, pre-op that day, surgery Wed 18th. We are staying until Sat. See you there!!! ><'

    Hi GtrsGrl,

I fly into san Diego on the 17 arriving at 10:10 am from Northern Ca. My surgery is on the 18th. What time is yours?

Thanks to Onlyme I am feeling much better now and anxious. Going off my meds for osteo. arth. is what is scaring me. and Prednisone for my Hepatitis. I can't wait to wear one those comfy gowns.

    Good luck,

    Sue

  14. Hi Janet,

I am also scheduled on the 20th. I'm supposed to loose 25-30lb too. I've been on it for two weeks lost 13LBS but am starting to plato. I am so hungry! The green veggies help but I am sick of them. Plus, I worry about so much green veggies and the issue with increased risk of clotting due to the high Vit K. Good luck with the preop diet and hope to see you down there.

    Sandy

    Hi Sandy,

Why do you have to loose so much before surgery? I thought we are suppose to loose 5% of our weight. That just seems awfully hard to loose 25-30 lbs. I am scheduled for surgery on the 18th.

    Good Luck, Sue

  15. Hi, GiBaby71, Beery and White dove,

First of all if we are going to be lap buddies I must know your names. Mine is Sue.

I am getting excited now. I've been doing pre-op now for 3 days and have lost 4 lbs. Boy does this bring back memories of the milk shake starving days only to gain all my weight back plus some.

But this time will definitely be different. I said by the time Im 50 I am going to have this done. Well I'm only 5 mos. past due. So here we goooooo. See ya all there.
