  1. HI all,

I am new to the forum, but have done a lot of reading and you all are so helpful. I am scheduled for surgery on march 20th and am wondering who else is scheduled for the same time? My husband and I are comming from central illinois and I too am concerned that two days of recoop in the hotel will NOT be enough. I have had three laprascopic surgeries before and was really sore and cranky after them. I have heard though that this is very diff. Any advice would be welcome. I am 33, mom to three little angels. I have been married for ten almost eleven years and have just found myself really fat......it is amazing how it crept up on me. I was dx with PCOS in 1998, and was subsequently dx with insulin resistance secondary to the PCOS shortly there after. I have a really hard time losing weight and have tried nearly every diet on the planet....I am tired of the fight and just want a life long solution to this decade long problem. I want to be the healthiest me I can be for my kids, hubby and self.

I am scared to death about the surgery, the diet etc..but know this is what I need to do.

I am private pay as my BMI is only 36.9, and no dr in the states will even touch me. Have any of you been able to apply this to your deductible for your insurance? What about the deduction on your income taxes?

Has the diet been hard to stick to? How about the preop diet? Oh so may questions...I am just dreading the next few weeks having to think about the surgery....

Also, how have your friends and family members reacted to your news? I have told only a few people that I know love and support me....I know they are scared about me leaving the us for surgery and most of them say to me...but Krista...you are not THAT fat????? UGH>>>>>I just hate having to justify my choice. I know they care but they aren't living in my body!

    HELP ALL>>>>>>>

thanks so much for listening and letting me ramble on and on!

I am so thankful for this board!

thinking of you all and waiting for your reply!

I'm 33 with bmi of 35. I'm going to try to write it as a tax deduct i don't know for sure if you can. Best of luck to you!!!

  3. Hi Donna

I was banded 6 days ago and struggled on the pre op I did 2 shakes( slim fast Optima) and a lean cuisine a day.I alsoate tons of green veg and mushrooms.Dr Miranda said you can have up to 4lbs of veg! I had lost 14lbs in two weeks with a couple of slip ups.I'm sure you'll be fine.

I can't wait to have a protein shake today as I know they will help me with the head hunger!!!

    Good luck

    Nicole

thanks nicole, I'll add more veggies, I blew it so bad yesterday. I hate this struggle!! How are you feeling???

  4. You are quite welcome Donna. It will actually be both because in that short of time frame between surgery and getting back to work, you will still be on clear liquids, so make sure you drink as much broth as you can and if your work has a freezer, then maybe get some popsicles to munch on too. Of course, drink like crystal light or other juices when you can too. By the end of the week, you can start having the protein shakes and that should give you a boost too in fighting that physical and head hunger. My surgery was on a monday and I went back to work the following tuesday because the monday was memorial day. I felt like I could have gone back to work sooner, but I came back from TJ on wednesday evening and the week was almost over anyway. Everyone is different, so take it day by day. You should be fine, but you never know. Since it isn't an open major surgery, then the pain is minimal, with mostly soreness. Unless you get those awful gas pains people talk about. Make sure you do ALOT of walking and that will surely help.

    Take care,

    Judy

Judy your a doll, Thanks for your help!!

  5. Well, i am on day 8 & i finally went to work half day & i feel so much better.....so much better!! I dont know about every body else but i needed a week for recovery. :)

That was my first trip to mexico via the boarder so other people prob have a better sense of good times to cross:) It was by FAR my best experience as far as health care,2:)

    So Glad your feeling better!!!!

How is the weight loss progressing?

  6. He is a wonderful Dr. you will do great. I think you could not possibly start the new year out better!!! I am one week post-op and I have no side affects of the surgery. The liquid diet is hard, but if you step on the scale every other day, you will find the wieght is poosring off. I stepped on the scale on Monday and then on Wednesday and had lost 4 pds between the two days. So far with the post op diet until now I have lost 24 pds. Tommorow I step on the scale again I can hardly wait, this was the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Congrats on your weight loss!! I can't wait!!! How soon back to work? I'm having surgery on Fri. and going to work on tues. think i can make it?

  7. I am on the pre-op diet now. I have decided to do the 2 protein shakes and a lean cusine. I was just wondering if anyone has not lost enough weight on the pre-op diet and has gotten turned away from Dr.Ortiz. The pre op diet is HARD! I think I am going to switch to 3 protein shakes next week (one week before surgery) just to make sure I lose enough...im so scared that I wont lose enough. How much did you all lose starting the pre-op diet about 2 weeks prior? Ive had two "major" slip ups so far...but other than that ive been good (that is why i started about 3 days early, just in case)

I am just so nervous bc I want this so badly, ive bought my ticket, paid in full for the surgery, im just scared that something will stand in the way!

I was so glad to read your post i'm on day 2 of pre diet and I'm starving, light headed, and weak. Is this to prepare you for after??? I moved my date to Fed 22nd so I need to hustle!! This is the hardest week ever!!

  8. I was banded on 2/1/08 and the experience with Dr. Martinez and his staff was wonderful I unfortunately was not able to meet Dr. Ortiz, but that's okay Dr. Martinez was great!

After surgery I became very ill and needless to say weak. I have been on the clear liquids and now I've started my protein and creamy soups as per Dr. Miranda's direction, but I do feel hungry and I want to drink Sunny Delight to help me with my cold but I don't know if I should. For the last 7 days I have coughed all night and have been in pain all day I've been miserable, but I'm getting concerned because I need 60g of protein and I can't drink the shakes or maybe right now everything is just making me sick. Any advice? Thank You!

I have not been banded yet, I was at the gym and they have ISO Pure its a clear liquid with 40 grams of protein. Does anyone know if these would help get the things you need??

I was thinking about trying them. I think you can get them from someone selling Isogenics (spelling?) I sure how you get to feeling better, God Bless,

    Donna

  9. I just left Mexico yesterday & came back home to California....I am 34yrs old & saw the Oprah show 2. I made my appt instantly & it has been a wonderful experience . I didnt tell my family until it was over either.........ive been band for 4 days & I am recovering much much better today!! Im less sore & less tightness/heartburn 2day...The warm/hot drinks helped more than cool drinks...im sticking to hot today :) Walking after surgery makes a world of difference, too! It took me until day 4 to feel pretty good but i saw other people bouncing back in a matter of hours!!wow!

Thankyou for your response, you are making me feel better!! I wish I didn't have to wait, but I wanted my hubby to go with me, and a weekend would be eaiser! How much weight do you want to lose? and How did you do with the pre-surgery diet? I was going to do the 4 week one but I'm struggling to get my mind set there. I want to eat because I know I will be restricted. Why do I do this to myself.. <_< Are you going back there for your fills or somewhere here in Cali? Whar area are you in? Gees can you tell I'm a little nervous sorry for all the question.... I'm at about 211 right now, and 5'5" and in Riverside County area. I'm thinking I will just go back to TJ for fills my in-laws are in San Diego so they can watch the kids while we go down there. Do you feel tired or week getting back to work or life? I'm a hairstylist and not planning on taking much time, think that will be a problem?? Take care,

    Donna

  10. Well After watching Oprah, I felt more comforable about going to Mexico. I have only told a few people, I'm not interested in hearing there crap, I mean there imput! I'm still scared to death, but I'm praying everything goes smoothly!!

I'm 33 and have struggled of course like eveyone else, my whole life. I'm over it!! I feel a little like I'm cheating, which is stupid, because I know it's hard work!!!

Anyone else with the same date??

    Donna
