  1. how easy is it for your band to slip?

im just over parinoid , but im afraid to do anything. anyone got some advice?

    im 10 days post op.

Hi I just had my fill and i asked the same question. the doctor said that the way the band slips is with constant vomiting. I was also worried, but in reality it makes sense that if the band was placed correctly, a lot of pressure will be the way for it to slip.

  2. So i had my first fill in chicago, and i was so impressed with the professionalism of Dr. vitello. I even meet a lady who was banded at OCC. I have a couple of questions for the experts in this group. right after i was fill, i was starving. Is this normal? Also, since the fill i feel even hungrier than before the fill, has anyone experience this? i know it takes a couple of days for the fill to kick in, but i am still concern. Also how often does the OCC recommends the fills? thank you all in advance.

  3. So i will be getting my fill next friday, and i was wondering about the diet after the fill. right now i have been doing the shake for breakfast and lunch and then lean cuisine for dinner. i remember Dr. miranda saying that you have to eat three solid meals a day after your fill. My only concern is that right now i barely eat 1000 calories, and therefore i am stuck. SO if we are eating about 10 bites of our three meals, then how does our body loose weight instead of going into starvation mode.

  4. Hello All I just needed to vent!!

And hope that someone else can relate??

I was at 255 when I had my baby 2yrs ago. I was at 211 when I had surgery. I am stuck around 200 and can't seem to get under it. I'm exercising like quite a bit, and really trying to watch my diet. I've not been perfect, but a million times better than before. I have had 2 fills and just booked my 3rd.

So with that said I went to the Dr. Today and complained about my hip, (I fell off my dirt bike a while ago) he said it was my weight.. I cried the whole way home!! I feel like I have make a huge huge huge effort to get this weight off and I'm not getting anywhere!!!

If anyone can relate, please let me know how they over came getting stuck!!!

    Donna

    Hi Donna!

i would say that there are a couple of things for you to look at. One of them is how many calories are you having on a daily basis. Also you should look at what kinds of food you are taking. you might be eating too many carbs or sugar type items. I have been there, and once i increase the amount of calories and pay more attention to the breads and pastas, i began losing weight again. Hope this helps, Good luck

  5. Hello Everyone!

I am having a fill coming up in two weeks here in chicago, and i was wondering if anyone had the guidelines that Dr. Ortiz suggests prior and after the fill. Since i have an almost 3 hour drive, i want to make sure that i can do everything right.

Also, I have been getting this sharp pain in the port area and i can actually feel the port, has anyone had the same problem?

  6. I know i post it this question early, however the situation has change. my doctor here asked if i wanted to have a fill next week. that will be only 3 weeks since the surgery, otherwise i will have to wait 8-9 weeks. does anyone know if that is too early. i am doing well. i have no pain, and most of the sutures are out. help please

  7. I would say it depends on your healing time, I have seen some people getting fills as soon as 4 weeks for one reason or another. I think getting it at 5 weeks is much better than getting it at 9 weeks because without a fill many people go back to past eating habits. I would say wait till you are 2-3 weeks post op before making a decision (unless you must book far in advance for travel reasons or to secure an appointment).

by healing time, what do you mean? my doctor email me and told me if i could go see him next week which will be 3 and half weeks.

  8. Hey everyone!,

Great posts.......I needed to hear from my girls ><' banded around my time.......THANK YOU!!!!!! I answer one question, I got my first fill 4 weeks out! Could eat any and everything......so I got a fill. Maybe just too soon, but they gave it to me!

The fills are the key.....so keep the posts coming! :-?

A doctor in chicago asked me if i wanted to have a fill 4 and half weeks after the surgery. Did you think that yours was too soon?

  9. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or ideas that i could use. I was banded on 4/18, and i was doing really well losing about 1 pound per day. However, for the last 2 days i have not had any changes and it look like i gain a pound. I am not sure if i am not eating enough and my body is going into starvation mode. This is my typical day

    morning: slim fast shake

    mid morning: protein water

    lunch shake

afternoon: 30 ounzes of protein water

    popsicle

    dinner: shake

    popsicle.

I believe is around 900 calories. I know that i am supposed to have at least 1200 calories per day, but i cant eat food yet. ANy help :((

  10. Would the gel caps dissolve in cold or warm water?

i took them yesterday with cold juice and i had no problem. I had really bad gas for the first 5 days and the gas x was doing nothing for me. I decided to try ti phazyme? and i felt better afterwards. when i asked Dr. Miranda, she said that if you take gel caps =, you wil have no problems wiht the band, however if the pills are not coated, then you should break them in half. :)

  11. Good morning Paula,

Glad to hear your feeling great from surgery. We will all be watching your progress. Britt and Deb had a bit of a hard time wanting to eat but I'm sure today it will pass.

    Have a great day,

    Jenn :-h

    Hey everyone!

I was in pain from the gas for 5 days or so. yesterday, i started to feel the pain from the surgery(it felt like if i did 500 crunches in a minute). I am still starving, but managing with shakes and popsicles. I will not be going back for a fill at TJ so i will miss you guys. keep in touch

  12. Thank you both for your quick replies. What do you do about the fills? If you have the sx done in TJ, will other agencies, MD's do the fills in States?

    Hi!

it is way to expensive for me to fly down to san diego from chicago, so we have a doctor in the chicago area that uses xrays and fluro for his fills. the amount that i will have to pay will be around 200 bucks, therefore that is what i am going for. I will tell you that it was difficult to find a doctor in the area since most of them will not accept patients banded out of us. Welcome to the group, my banding experience has been great. ><'

  13. WELL HERE I SIT THE DAY AFTER MY BANDING. EVERYTHING WENT PERFECT. GOT TO THE HOSPITAL AROUND NOON WAS OUT OF SURGERY AND AWAKE BY 3:00PM AND HOME AT 6:00. I HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL AND HAD NO PROBLEMS DRINKING WATER. TODAY HOWEVER I AM SORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FEEL LIKE I HAVE DONE A MARATHON OF SITUPS. I AM ALSO VERY TIRED, DID NOT SLEEP HARDLY AT ALL LAST NIGHT. BUT IT IS ALL UP HILL FROM HERE AND AM SO EXCITED. I WILL KEEP EVERYONE POSTED ON MY PROGRESS. FIRST FILL IS PLANNED FOR 6 WEEKS POST OP.

Hi I was banded on the 18th and i feel the pain as well. the worst part is the gas and the way it moves up to your shoulder. i am also hungry so it makes it harder. the soreness will go away in about 5 days or so. Keep up the good and positive attitude. =D>

  14. Okay bandsters - I want the truth....who ate before week 3????? I know there are several of you.

I was banded by Dr. Ortiz, but I read some online post-op guidelines by other surgeons that direct their patients in week 3 & 4 to eat mushy, soft foods.

I'm just wondering who's done what for post-op!!!

When did you start to eat?

    What did you eat?

I am almost 7 days post opt and i am very hungry. I was hungry when i got out of the OR. I have been following the whole liquids thing, however i began the shakes 2 days before i was supposed to and i had no problems. i dont like soups either but i have been trying to have them. I dont feel restricted at all since i feel just as hungry before the band, however the thought about messing it up it scares me. i think that starting shakes and/or creamy soups before hand is not too bad, but food i dont think off. hope this helps
