  1. Hi Everyone!!! ><'

I just joined this forum. I have my surgery date with Dr. Martinez on July 4th(my independence day)...I'm getting excited.

So I found the best protein shakes. I bought them from bodybuilding.com and you have to by them in bulk, but they are soooo much cheaper. Believe it or not but all of the flavors tast great. They are the Muscle Milk Light Ready to Drink Shakes. They come in 8.5 fl oz, 160 calories and 20g of protein.

Look into them...they are really yummy!

 Ok I ordered 3 things of the stuff so I hope this is good!! I am just kidding. I believe in what you say.. I orderd the optifast and that is ok but I want variety when I get back from surgery,, I go in two days. My surgery is actually in three, tuesday.. So I am in a panic to get things ready for me when I get home.. Thanks for the tip. XO Lisa :)

  2. Hey my husband is from KC.. He has his BBQ sauce shipped her to So Cal all the time! I am sorry that your friends are oppsed to the lap band,, it is REALLY sad they aren't going anyway.. I go in a few days,, I can't wait... Are you worried about going alone? I will let you know how my experience goes. Post, post, post the more suppport you get here the better you'll be. Lets keep in touch!! XO Lisa~

P.S. I'm a nut too and proud of it!!

  3. Thanks for the kind responses...

My husband is staying in KC watching our 3 kids!! I will be traveling alone. I have two good friends who are very opposed to the lap band sadly...or perhaps they'd come with me.

  4. Please remember my family in your thoughts and prayers. My wife and I found out yesterday that our son was killed in a motorcycle wreck near Ft. Bragg. The sight of the Army chaplin pulling into your driveway is something that I hope that I never see again. This is going to be tough. You are not suposed to have to bury your kids.

    Dearest DJ,,,

I am so so sorry about your loss. I will be thinking of you and your famliy during this time. I can't help but shed a few tears for you as a parent myself. You will be in my thoughts and again I am so sorry to hear such news. Be strong and don't forget to be true to yourself in this time of sadness.

    Take Care XO Lisa~

  5. I took tea bags [you can heat water in the coffee pot in the room] I'm a coffee drinker, but the first few days I wanted tea?? Anyways, I found that warm or hot drinks [room temp] felt better in my belly, cold drinks tended to kick up the shoulder \collarbone area pain. Suitcase with wheels is a blessing, especially is you're changing flights. If you get air sickness on planes, make sure you take Dramamine.... I forgot mine for the flight out and got so nausious :bad: They fixed me up at the OCC, but I felt horrible. They also gave me a couple Dram. for the flight home, bless their hearts! I know that you've read it on here a hundred times, but it is SO TRUE.... the more you move, the better you'll feel! You may not feel like moving, but make yourself!! Also, keep a bottle [i prefered room temp] water with you all the time and sip constantly! I went shopping on Rev. Ave the day after banding and carried a bottle with me and sipped. The hotel has 2 bottles in the room, but just call the front desk and they'll bring you more. I used it for my tea too. [Not sure of the safety of the drinking water down there... didn't want to take any chances.]

Is Hubby going with you?? Relax and enjoy your trip! Before you know it, you'll be posting your experiance :D Best wishes, Darlene

Thanks everyone.. No my husband is driving us to the border and dropping us off and then getting us a few days later. My girlfriend is going with me. My hubby won't leave the country for anything and he thinks he is the ONLY one (besides me) that can take care of our two year old.(?) He's a freak about her. She is the youngest out of my four with a 13 year spread,, yes she was a little surprise....but a good one at that!

Tea sounds really good.. I keep hearing about shoulder pain,, whats the deal with that? Why is that common? Do you know? I am not taking a flight as I live 2 hours from the border, I think those of you who fly all this way are very brave. I am very worried about sleeping, I am have had insomnia for years which comes and goes and I sort of feel it coming again... I'm sure it is nerves. I don't take anything for it other than a tylenol pm sometimes.

I will move move move,, I know how important it is after surgery. Did you use your spriometer? I bought one to bring with me. I am a compliant patient so I will definatley do what I am told.

My Friend that is coming with me is a native from Mexico, so I feel very comfortable having her with me. They have family in Mechoacan, MX and crosses often. She is really great for going with me. One of her good friends loves the hospitals and Dr's down there so much that she crosses for her health care and procedures. Much better than here in the US. She says.

So I will keep everyone posted on what happened with me espcially those who are waiting as I know it is very nerve racking wondering. I am going to embrace this experience in a positive way so that I wake up happy.. Besides I'll need the sleep ha ha. So thanks for your tips it is greatly appreciated!! XO Lisa

  6. Hey Lisa,

Dr. Miranda told me that I could only eat a chicken breast as my final meal before surgery, that was all. I was able to shop but not much, I only stayed out about an hour before catching a taxi back to the hotel.

I'm feeling better now, I still have some bouts of nausea...not really sure if it is just an after effect of the anesthesia or if it is just from the drastic change in my diet.

Good luck with your surgery! I was a nervous wreck before mine but now I know I was worried for nothing! You guys will do fine and be sure to let us know how it goes!

    Erin

    Erin,

Thanks for the update.. I am very excited but can't wait til' its over. #1 My Husband is starting for freak... and #2 I just can't wait til its over.. A lot of stress at home with family kids, and parents.. You know the usual crap. I am glad you are better. I will keep you guys up dated. Do they give you anything to sleep? I am havving terrible sleeping problems.. Thanks again.. XO Lisa

  7. I have the weight watchers glass scales. They are very accurate to my Dr's scales. I bought them at Lowes.

I have to comment Kim you look MAAAAAVALOUS!! What a difference 50 lbs has made!! I'm taking my face shot TONIGHT so that I can show how beautiful I'm gonna be.. Just like you!! Keep it up!! XO Lisa

  8. YAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!! Your almost there! Everyone has it right, you'll be wearing those horrible compression hose so your toes are fine. My friend and her daughter both had acrylic nails and they didn't say anything but she did take the polish off of them the night before surgery. No makeup which makes for HORRIBLE pictures! and no lotion especially on your tummy. But don't worry when you wake up your tummy will be coated with that lovely orange yellow iodine stuff so you won't even notice it! LOL!

I cannot stress how important it is to have COMFORTABLE clothes for the rest of your trip after surgery! My stomach is still swollen and I can just barely button up my jeans today and even if I do it is not the best feeling.

And don't forget to bring the boullion cubes, it will save you $6.00 a bowl for broth.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!! I'm excited for you!

    Hey Erin,

I read about your first part but didn't get the rest... How did it go? I have lost 8 lbs but started that pesky monthly thing and not sure how I will fare at the scales when I get there next week. SO I am afraid they will tell me to go home.. What did they tell you? How are you feeling?... Could you go shopping after? Thanks XO Lisa :0

  9. Yes Yes let us know how it goes.. I leave I week from this morning and I can't WAIT!! I wore a nose ring and ride dirt bikes a lot so it got really infected. I just finally took it out,, the pain was way too much for me to handle!! Don't worry about your make up,, I'm not and belive me honey I'm a DOG with out mine!! Your young and very pretty so who cares, WE love you anyway!! XO Lisa

  10. Great job.. the more your do it the better you will get at it.. I don't drink (alcohol) haven't for years so when the girls go out for a nip I just drink my water... I think it is all the same. Food/Alcohol... Besides it has been really GREAT tool for me while doing my pre-op.. All this will be here later on right? They aren't going to run out of pizza or beer, I just chose not to indulge right now,, it helps me to make myself think it is a possible future option that I may or may not entertain.. =D>

  11. Danielle,, I think you can go to Oprah.com and look into ordering the tape/transcript before Aug 11th if you don't want to wait. I did that when I wanted a subject and they sent it out. I don't recall what the cost was, but I am sure they can tell you all about that if you contact them.

Having had gastric bypass in 2001(open) was just the thing I needed as I was really big... But with that sort of WLS people tend to stretch and that is what happened to me. So I spent $30K on that surgery Insurance didn't cover it and now another $12,500 for the lap band. (that is the cost now over the bypass)I wish that I had the lap band as an option to begin with. I am chopped up inside and rerouted and the original surgery isn't reversable where as the lap band is and there is no cutting. Modification of your behavior is the key. This isn't the easy way out at all,, I've been to hell and back so who ever tells you that knows not a thing about weight issues and the crappy life it leads.

Look over the web site with your parents, Carolyn is very informative. Call and ask questions, we are all here for you. I ask questions and sometimes I feel like an idiot, but no one ever treats me like that. I love everyone here. We all may have a different story but in the end we all have the same story essentially.. It is so great that there is such support out here like this group, I never had that with my first surgery. I am pretty new here and feel like I fit right in.

I didn't suffer as a kid with weight issues, not until I was in my 30"s did I gain weight and have struggled with it for 15 years. It has been horrible,, I AM THE ONLY FAT ONE IN MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY,, so take it from an old bag like me enjoy your life and do what you gotta do you are so young to have to go through such pain. Research it and make the decision that is right for you!! Take care sweety xo Lisa

P.S. Keep your parents informed.. they will appreciate it. I know I do when my 15 YO Daughter includes me. :)

P.S.S. Please don't be afraid to discuss this with your parents,, they need to be informed... try to see things from their prospective and ask them to do the same for you. It's hard!! Be strong and encourage them to visit here and meet all of us...:)

  12. I use one that measures the body fat as well, I think it is a great tool especially if you do any sort of weight training. It is important to know what is fat and what is muscle. I have had my scale for a number of years. I bought it in 1998 "Tanita" I don't recall where I bought it,, but it has been a GREAT scale. It allows you to put your stats in. I had it for my first WLS RNY (horror story) and it gave me great incentive. I am sure they have better ones out there now since mine is old, but I do like it very much.. It has allowed me to keep in my mind that weight numbers are just numbers and the way the clothes fit are true when I get stuck.. You know those all time infamous plateau's? Lisa

  13. lisalisapsl, from reading on the post op paperwork that Michelle posted it looks like 3 weeks post op before you can start working out again.... For crunches and abdominal work outs its 3 months after surgery...... Hope that helped!

Thanks,, I am still loking around here for posts.. So I just missed all that.. I'm slow,, I guess, says I'm a memeber but I am a newbie for sure..It did help and Thanks!! Lisa :)

  14. I didn't like them either. The children's ones are better though..like the gogourts.

GOGURTS RULE!! I limit them as they are plenty FULL OF SUGAR!! My little 2 yo loves them especially with Sponge Bob on the front,, ha ha,, I laugh when I get a Ms. Puff (the blowfish) I don't want to look like her any more.. LOL

  15. I am curious. How long after the surgery can you start working out again? Walking? light lifting? boxing, spinning? I haven't heard much about that.. I have dusted everything off in my home gym, the clothes are put away I fully intend not to use them as clothes hangers any more, I don't want to get back into that habit. Thanks Lisa :)
