  1. Hello everyone!! ><'

I finally scheduled my surgery date -------> August 7, 2009 <------- I am so excited!!!

I would love to meet anyone else that has the same surgery date!

I do not know which hotel to choose; The Lucerne or The Marriott? Any recommendations?

    Thank you!!

    -Bella

Congrats to taking the first step to your new YOU! I chose the Marriott. I will be banded May 22. I will let you know all the details.

  2. I am officially 31 years young today.....

Last year at this time I made the decision to have the Lap Band surgery along with my sister. We had surgery in July and it was the best thing I could have ever done for myself. Last year at this time I was coming off of a failed Weight Watchers Dieting episode (lost 30lbs in 9 months, gained it all back in 2 months). -_- Since being banded I have dropped 60lbs and gone from a tight size 18 to a size 10/12. I am actually wearing a size 10 capri today and it is an amazing feeling to be able to look at yourself and say wow you look good and mean it.... I am not at my ideal weight yet but I am HAPPY!!!! I am struggling to find what I weight I will be happy with, not the worst thing to be struggling with.... Just thought I would post because I am sooo happy with my decision.

I am so happy for you! Congrats! You should be very proud of yourself. How you feel about yourself makes all the difference in the world. Keep up the good work and post before and after picks. I would love to see them!

  3. Six Months today is when I knew my life was going to change. After being overweight my whole life and reaching my heaviest of 262 lbs, I was determined that I wanted a new life, a new Soul. My weight loose began with a pre-op diet that consisted of shake for breakfast, shake for lunch and Lien Cuisine for Dinner for two weeks. I was not sure how well I would do and wanted to start a little early so I my pre-op was for 17 days. In those 17 days I had to make a choice of, ok Carrie, either you are in or you are out. It was hard, very hard, but I did it and with the support of my WONDERFUL husband who has supported, encourage, and worked with me so much.

Since being banded six months ago, I have learned so much and even though I am not where I want to be YET, this experience has already changed my life and my Soul! I found out that I really do like myself and I am very proud of myself, I have never said that before.

It has been one struggle after another, plateau after another; I don’t know how many times wanting to smash the freaking scales …lol. I can honestly say I have learned to respect those scales!

Today I am living MY life, eating so healthy and exercise has became parts of my daily life, which in itself is an AMAZING accomplishment for me. I want this to encourage people to NEVER give up. You WILL get frustrated, you WILL come to have a love hate relationship with your scales, you WILL hide them.lol, you WILL learn that there really are Lapband Gods to pray to when you get stuck (I PROMISE just let this chicken go down and I will NEVER eat chicken again I SWEAR!)…lol But I will say that if YOU want this, YOU will work with the band and you WILL succeed.

I am so proud to report that my Goal was to have lost 60lbs within 6 months of being banded and my weight this morning I am at 207, whick is 5lbs away. I am SO proud of myself and I wanted to say thanks to everyone on this board for the support that everyone has shown.

I have submitted update pics! Waiting for approval.

    The best luck to everyone!

    Carrie

Great job! I am so happy for you! I love hearing the success stories and how the band has changed people's lives. I am hoping for that same transformation. I am being banded May 22, 2009. I wish you all the luck in making the rest of the way to your goal weight!!

  4. Hello to all, :-h

My name is Linda and I am so excited my band date is May 22, 2009. I and my family will be picked up @ San Diego airport at 7:30 am and the adventure and new life begins. I will stay one night at the Marriot Hotel if all goes well I head home on the 23rd.

My brother had his done here on state side in Feb; he is doing an awesome job. He has lost 50 lbs already I’m so happy and proud of him.

I have wanted this for a very long time, never dreamed of going to TJ. After surfing around on this forum and the one my brother is on. I made contact with the OCC to get more info and vada boom vada bing I’m on my way. I was going for a June/July banding, there was a cancellation for the 22 and I’m in!

With all the money I have spent on diets just hoping for the miracle to happen. I could have had this done several times over. I’m a pro at losing weight its keeping it off that’s the trick, plus I always seem to pick up a couple extra pounds on the way back up by 10 plus what I have dropped.

My highest weight is 265 in late 2003, lost 75 lbs on the Adkins diet, thought I found the magic not true once I started to introduce carb’s I started back up the scale. By this past Dec I was up to 240+ and climbing. Then my daughter announced her wedding plans and I was to give her away I was totally ashamed of my appearance and felt like crap, so I tried the Adkins once again, wasn’t working as well as before I have totally slowed my metabolism down with all the diets I’m sure. I managed to get down to 220 in time for the April wedding, but struggling to keep it off.

I have been eating very light the past couple weeks to jump start my 5% loss very hard but down to 211, 2 more pounds to reach my 5%. I will start pre-op diet tomorrow to make sure I do it and keep it off. The nine I have lost as of today that is has been up and down the past couple weeks.

Sorry guys I was just going to introduce myself…! I just keep going on and on I’m just so excited and this is only my second attempt to reply on of this forum.

I must say it feels good to write to people who truly understand and can relate.

I wish all the best to everyone. Maybe one day ours paths may cross.

One of your soon to be banded friends,

    ~Linda

PS… I wonder :-? what it will feel like to be under 190. I only know 190 for a nanno minute! I’m having trouble seeing it less than that!

I am so happy to meet you. My name is Deanna Miller. I will also be banded on May 22 and will be staying at the Marriott. I live in Southern Ca, so they will be picking me up at the Mexicoach at 10am on May 21. Then off to pre-op and hotel. I am getting so excited. Less than a week until I start my new adventure!

  5. I also spoke with my doctor at Kaiser. He said to definately do the lap band rather than the gastric bypass. There are so many bad side effects with the gastric bypass and much more invasive. I have researched the lap band for over a year. Yes, some people have a few problems. But nothing as horrible as some of the results from gastric bypass. The lapband problems were really minor and easily corrected. I am having my surgery May 22,2009 and am a little nervous, but excited. I have total faith in Dr. Ortiz and can't make to become healthier.

  6. Hello again

For the last three months I have done so much research on the Lap-Band (LB). I also became very excited to hear all the success stories and the side effects were nominal. So I told my brother about it too.

...Today, my brother went to his doctor and asked about the Lap-Band for himself, to my surprise, his doctor told him not to do the LB because it cases CANCER and that he should have a bypass (BP) which would be safer than the LB!!???!??? :o ..... this bursted my bubble!

Does anyone know how common cancer is with the LB and why should I have the LP vs the BP?... I am now so confused and concered!!!

Thank you again for your time,

    Bella

  7. Thanks for asking - she FINALLY came home tuesday! Was supposed to be an in and out thing but she had a lot of pain and her intestines didn't want to work. Plus, they couldn't take the drain out until tuesday. She is doing a bit better, but this was very major for her. I am really unhappy with her doctor right now! REALLY UNHAPPY! Just makes me all the more glad I went to Dr. Ortiz!

Im happy to hear she is doing better! That is very scary. Do you know what could have caused this to happen to her?
