I was banded the same day as BrownEyedGirl. I couldn't believe how fast and painless the whole experience is. Out of surgery 2.5 hours ago, back in my room now and leaving back to Los Angeles tomorrow am. I could've left tonite but we're playing it safe. Look forward to discussing my post op experience with everyone.
To anyone considering the surgery, I too was hesitant but the staff was very comfortable to work with and the pain was almonst non-existent for me. My wife is more worried than I am , lol. I am totally mobile with no pain at times what so ever.
Congrats and welcome to your new adventure with the band

I just need to vent. One of my sisters hasn't called me all week even though I've called her and have emailed her. She doesn't support what I'm doing but has acted as if she's kind of accepted it. But now that the rubber meets the road and I'm having surgery tomorrow she's made it about her. I wrote friends and family asking them not to call while I'm in Mexico because I get charged even if I don't answer and I want to keep the phone open in case my son needs to call and I'm sure she's having a fit about that too. She does behave horribly to me and others and never apologizes. If she does she spits out, "I'm f-ing sorry. You happy now?!" and always holds it over your head that she won't talk to you again if you point out what she does wrong. I think when I get home her and I are going to have a talk. It may be the last one we ever have but that's up to her. What is coming out is that when she is needed she's not there. In fact, she uses it as emotional blackmail and punishes others during stressful times. I'm done being fat and I'm done with this kind of behavior from her.
Just venting. Now time to pray. We leave in a few hours for TJ. Surgery tomorrow! Woohoo! I wish I had some kind of happy pill now. I could use it!!
Oh, and on a positive note, other sister is very supportive and encouraging. Way to be, sis!
I have a sister just like that !!! I have found over the years that I just don't tell her things... she still comes up with crap. I have only told my husband and kids where I have the lap band done. I just didn't not want to hear their views. This was my choice and not theirs. Let us know how are you doing You have made a wise choice.

Good morning,
I am going to be in San Diego on Thursday and wanted to know if there is anyone down there that wants to meet up for lunch. I have a morning Doctors appointment and a few hours after.
Look forward to hearing back from ya.
Hugs,
Kristi
Have you gone back to OCC for each of your fills?

You can chew gum WHILE walking?!! I'm jealous!
Yes, I'm talented
-
Hello,
I think you need to call OCC and let them know what is going on. I would hope that you are on medication now and hope that within 11 days you would be on your way to recovery.
Please call them I hope and pray that you are well and the doctors at OCC give you the thumbs up!

Anyone going to OCC on March 8th???

I'm having my surgery in 2.5 weeks (YIPPEE) and am trying to figure out the best way to call home to my family during my stay. I know it's free from the OCC, but from what I can tell, I'm only going to be there less than 24 hrs. My mom and I are staying an extra day for sight seeing and my kids are small, so I'm going to need to be able talk to them on a semi-regular basis (at least daily.) In my quick google research, I found www.pingo.com where you can purchase inexpensive calling cards to call to and from multiple countries. They have a local 800 for Mexico to use. Has anyone tried this? Anything else? My cell provider says it won't work and even if it did they don't have an international plan, so I don't want that bill!!
Hello and Congrats,
I brought my laptop so I could keep in touch with my family. It worked great for me My cell phone did not work either.

potassium.
Easy bruising is often a sign that your body needs more potassium.
Try adding a banana into your daily diet, and see how it goes --- for me, I've had to had a banana, and it seemed to take care of the super-duper sensitive bruising I was getting from my dogs!
There are potassium meds & supp's, but I'd go with the 'real food' route before going that route.
Thank you Lindsay !

Question about Bruising......
I have noticed for a while...that I am bruising more often. I sent a message to my doctor to see if I might be missing something with my diet or what I can do about it.. Below is what he said. I am only 53 years old.. I didn't think I was OLD. I think I read on here that lack of protein will cause bruising. Can someone tell me if that is true? Please say I am to young to start bruise like my mom!!!!!
"Easy bruisablility is typically associated with loss of "filler" under the skin. True, it's a protein but this isn't due to a dietary protein deficiency it's just that the collagen (protein) "dissolves" over time. That's why we get skin wrinkles as we get older. When there's less "stuffing" or "filler" the blood vessels are less protected and more prone to bruising. Unfortunately, there's not much that can be done for this it's part of the normal aging process".

Good morning all!
On Mon. 2/1, I will be starting my pre-op diet! YAY - it's almost band time! My question is, does it matter how you lose the weight as long as you lose it? I'm thinking about doing something like HCG drops for a couple of weeks to help get the weight off. I've got my 5% (9 lbs.) to lose plus about 3 lbs. extra that I've put on since decision date (was 8 - lost 5 already). If I can't do the HCG drops, I'll probably do the intro to Atkins that they recommend because I don't think I can do the shakes and lean cuisine. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks so much!
Hi,
What is HCG drops???

Okay guys....I really dig this product and have been adjusting to having different BM's since I've got a good level of restriction.
Anyway, sometime I don't get enough fiber in and my BM's can be hard....oh gosh I am so the queen of TMI! Ha! But seriously if you have had WLS it is a given that your poop is gonna change!
Target baby! They sell this at good ol'Targeto. I have not found them at Walmart or Costco...which are my regular shopping stores. I think this works so much better than benefiber and tastes like a treat. Oh and each serving is 5g of fiber which rocks! 2 gummies are a serving.
Let me know if you try these and what you think.
Good Morning all,
I went and picked up a bottle last night!! Thank you Angie !

I realized yesterday, after my weigh in that I'm now officially 50lbs down!
I'm not where I want to be, but feel extremely confident the next month or so will be the crutial crunch time to really focus in on my fitness goals, rather than my weight.
Eating clean.
Exercising DAILY.
This is how I did it.
YEA !!! Congrats Lindsay

Good morning everyone. I just had to share with all my band friends . I usually weigh on Saturdays but don't mark it down until Wednesday with everyone else at the forum. Well I can't wait until Wednesday to share with you all that I have lost 100 pounds. My entire life has changed since I got banded. It is the best thing I could have done. I feel so much more healthy. I have tons of energy. I can buy cloths off the rack now in a store, instead of going to Penningtons or the plus sizes. Thank God for Penningtons but I am not going to miss them
Thank you everybody for your support on this forom. You have all been incredible in your encouragement and answering questions.
Anyways I just wanted to share with you how happy I was today.
Now I am off for a 10 km walk to celebrate. WOW what a revelation. I can't believ I am going to go excercise to celebrate and not go eat something.
Have a great day everyone.
WOW !!!!! You are "1" amazing women !!!!
"0" Fill's too.... Congrats !!!

Yes they suggest that everyone get a fill at 6-8 weeks. I told Dr Miranda that I was not going to get a fill until I had gone several weeks with no weight loss at all. She had no problem with that. There have been cases when someone went all the way to goal and never had a fill. I am hoping that I will be one of those lucky ones.
Debbie
Debbie,
You are doing fantastic!!

TOMATO PIE (SMACK YER GRANNY!)
1 9 inch ready made pie crust
2 LARGE ripe tomatoes, sliced thin, salted, and drained
1 medium onion, sliced thin
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
3/4 cup mayonnaise
Bake pie crust in oven for about 8-10 minutes. Remove from oven. <- IMPORTANT STEP TO BAKE PIE SHELL, DONT SKIP!
Put thinly sliced onions in bottom of pie crust
Then layer (DRAINED) sliced tomatoes over onions <- IMPORTANT TO DRAIN THE TOMATOES FIRST
Mix cheeses and mayo, add black pepper.
Pour cheese mixture over tomatoes, spread.
Bake pie in 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes.
YOU *WILL* SMACK YOUR GRANNY FOR A PIECE OF THIS PIE
There are other versions on the net but this is the recipe that was given to me which I tried today. YUMMMMIE. It's full of protein and the healthiest pie I've ever eaten
Enjoy!
Yes, Thank you Debbie ! My husband and I both have had it for breakfast everyday this week! He even asked me to make another one

I bought a belt a year ago, just after my surgery. I counted the belt loops I've had to tighten up, I'm 8 notches tighter. (the holes go all the way around the belt, so I don't have to buy a new belt for a while lol)
Congrats That is wonderful !!!
