  1. I finished my Post Op diet on Wednesday and do not feel any type of restriction at all... I have gained three pounds in the last three days. I can eat anything without an problem, bread, rice, steak etc. I am trying to eat less than I did before my surgery but I am starving from being on the post op diet for three weeks.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

  2. Hello,

I am leaving soon for the OCC. What items do I need to bring? What are the gas strips that people talk about? Do you only get three pain pills to take home? I had severe gas pains, nausea and vomiting for two days after my gallbladder surgery . I could not keep any fluids down and had to have any IV and stay in thd hospital for three days. I am scared to death and I want to be prepared when I am discharged to the Hotel. Any suggestions or things everyone wished they knew before their surgery ? Thanks so much...

  3. Ohhh Ohhh I got more....

When the shelf life of your clothes is about one month because you grow out of them so fast

When the topics you are googling are protein, constipation, and plastic surgery! So googled all three today BTW! :)

When you finally have to break down and buy new undies because yours are falling off your butt! Yeah, had that happen too! Note to all: don't wear undies that are getting too big to Zumba class - they will keep falling off your butt!

That is too funny, I can't wait until my undies start to fall off my butt...!

  4. I found out last week that my band has slipped. It is around my distal esophagus (have no idea what that is, but it doesn't sound good) instead of being around the top of my stomach. I am so nervous and anxious because I don't know what to do from here. I can't afford to go back to Mexico to see Dr. Ortiz to get it fixed/taken out. I don't have the money or the time off of work. I am just wondering if anyone else has had this experience or similar experiences and if so what did you do? Has anyone heard of insurance paying for cost of surgery to repair a band even if the original band was paid for out of pocket? Also, has anyone had surgery to repair or remove a band from a surgeon within the US (if you had your band outside of the US)? I am just so nervous that I am not going to be able to get this taken care of for financial reasons. I don't know what to do - - I am freaking out. I can't stop crying (and EATING, to boot!) and I am just not sure what to do from here. Help! Anyone with similar stories to share/advice to share?

    Carrie,

My name is Sherri. I am a nurse and have a few ideas you might want to try.

Are you having trouble keeping foods and fluids down? If you are you could go to the ER on an emergency basis. They will not turn you away like some private doctors will when they see you have had surgery out of the country. They will have a surgeon who is on call who knows how to deal with this since there are people who have had surgery in the USA that have slipped bands too. It is not because you had your Lab Band done in Mexico. Although I bet you might hear that from the US doctors who treat you.

Maybe the ER can find a way to get Pre Authorization because it would be emergency..

You can also go online and look up your healthcare benefits to see what all will be covered. Our insurance has a 1800 number on the back of the card you can call where they will answer any questions for you. You need to be proactive about this.. You can't live with a band around your esophagus forever.

I would also call the OCC. I was reading where Dr Ortiz was doing some kind of work with slipped bands.

    Best Wishes,

Hang in there... Let us know what you find out

  5. Hey everyone.....I listen to a good amount of you tubers vids during my work day....some peeps really speak to me more than others. This chicky poo I really like. Her messages make sense to me and speak to me.

I would like to share her, if you are not already aware....she is a good bander!

This video she shows LOTS of portions and talks about her transformation of thoughts and behaviors......LOVE IT!

    Hope you enjoy here too!

    ((HUGS))

    Angie

Thanks so much for the U tube Video info It was good to see the portions and what she left on her plate.

She said had the gastric sleeve Does anyone know if that is about the same as the Lap Band in the type and amount of food that you can eat after surgery?

  6. I wouldn't have any problem taking my kid to Mexico either, as long as Grandma was there to watch over her. But what about you--will you be alone for your surgery? It's not essential to have someone there with you, but I have to admit, it was nice having someone to talk to before and after the surgery--it's a long day.

I just found out today that best friend from Portland has decided to have her Lap Band surgery with me on June 2nd. Lori said we can be in the same recovery room together. I think they are going to try to get us hotel rooms that are connected too.

I wonder if I should just let my mom and daughter stay at the hotel the morning of surgery. Do very many people leave the day of surgery to spend the night at the Hotel or do most people spend the night at the hospital?

  7. if you kiddo has someone with her, that is a totally different story...I was under the impression that your kiddo would be alone. I have taken my kiddo to Mexico when he was 5 or so...He got to see a different way of life and now he is 14 still remembers kids selling chicklettes etc...So if they have someone with them then ya i would...

    Kim

Yes my mom will be there with her the whole time.. We live in Tennessee and my parents live in California. My daughter does not see her grandmother that often so I thought that they would be able to play at the pool and just spend some time together at the hotel while I was in the hospital. A vacation for her and my mom and surgery for me...

  8. Hello, my name is Terri. My surgery is scheduled for June 3rd and I will be staying at the Lucerna Hotel. I am nervous about traveling to Mexico.

    Terri,

I will be having surgery the day before you on the 2nd. What time do you arrive?

I am going to be staying at the Lucerna too.

I wonder if we might bump into each .

  9. My friend gave me this diet to try. I am having my surgery on June 1st and I have been doing the Protein Shake for breakfast and lunch and Low Cal microwave meal for dinner. I have also been eating salad and vegetables. I am already tired of the shakes. I thought I might give this a try since my mom and sister will be here Thurs - Tues for my sons graduation. It would give me a chance to eat normal for the days they are here.

  10. Today is the start of my detox....

No breakfast was able to sleep in today.

    11:00 - sliced green apple

12:30 - 1/2 cup water with 1 tsp of epson salt

    2:30 - repeat water & salt

    4:30 - repeat water & salt

    6:30 - repeat water & salt

7:00 - 1 cup grapefruit juice and 1 cup extra virgin olive oil - actually ended up being the most bearable part of it wasn't too bad.

I did eat one pringle between each water & salt to get the taste out of my mouth but otherwise stuck to the plan!

After today i'm going on all fresh fruits and veggies as well as chicken and fish. No processed food, no alcohol, salt, etc....gonna do this all week (with the exceptions of a couple meals I have no control over) and see if this helps get me going. I've been slowly gaining weight and I can see it's all in my mid section. Too many processed food so gonna see if this helps. I'll keep you all updated!!

How is your detox going? Do you have to stay near a bathroom all day? I have never done one before maybe I should try it since I gained three pounds on this Pre Op Diet ...

  11. I was wondering if anyone has taken their kids to Mexico with them when they are having surgery? I have a 12 year old daughter that I am thinking of taking with me along with my mother when I have surgery. My husband has to stay here and work and I think Anna would enjoy the trip to see her Grammie rather than staying here in Tennessee with a babysitter. Lori said she has brought her kids to the Lucerna and felt it is safe there.

    Thanks

  12. I started my Pre Lap Band Diet yesterday. I did a Protein Shake for breakfast and lunch and had a 300 calorie frozen meal and a salad with spray dressing for dinner. I bought some protein packets that you add to water and drank that too. Any other ideas of what else I should be doing now while i wait for my surgery date?

    Thanks so much,

    Sherri

  13. Hello everyone, My name is Sherri and I am booked for a Lap Band on June 2nd. I am excited and scared at the same time. I wanted to start on the Pre Diet today but I had to go to a party where they served lunch with lots of desserts. I also went out to dinner with my husband and kids. I guess this is the reason I just can't loose weight on my own. I hope to drop a few pounds before my surgery but I keep thinking to myself I better eat now before I have the surgery and I can't have those bad kinds of food anymore.
