  1. Hi there,

I have been experiencing a burning pain in my mid-section several hours after eating (3 different times now over 1 month). I was banded Sept. 3rd and had my first fill on Oct.8th. The first time I experienced this I had eaten sushi w/ wasabi. The wasabi didn't seem all that spicy so I ate it with each bite. 20 minutes later I thought I would die! Then, yesterday afternoon, I had some pineapple fried rice with sweet Thai chili sauce. After I got home, over an hour later, I felt a lot of burning discomfort! I had not had any problem eating and was fine driving home too. Tonight I had cheese and crackers for dinner- (sweet Thai chili flavored cheese) and a lean cuisine w/ a little pepper jack mixed in. That was at 7:30. It is now nearly midnight and I have been awoken by the familiar burning pain and nausea too . I am guessing that this means I must now avoid spicy foods. How sad for me! Can anyone offer any advice or share similar experiences with me? As a newbie, I'm a little scared.

  2. If you have a Walmart near you there are these little vials of Body Fortress Whey Protein "shots" in the dieting section. 26 grams of protein and 110 cals. Fruit punch flavored and I add them to water twice daily and it really takes the food craving away! Just be careful to not go over 2/day as too much protein turns to belly fat! But these work for the 21 day liquid diet post-op!

  3. Great! So far I have lost 10 pounds and have 30 left to go and I am still working hard. I agree with you about the investment of tickets and the fear being motivators for keeping it going. I know it helped me make it through the labor day cookout this past weekend. I even took my own food to help me through it. I am feeling better but I am still so nervous. I am going to take your advice on keeping in touch with Dr. Miranda and will email her my food and activity log too. Hopefully, with her and my support group and the hard work I will make it.

You'll make it Tag! I have to share that my one thing that helped the most pre-op was sugar snap peas. I bought them by the bag and ate about 12 - 15 oz a day! They are green so they meet the diet requirement and don't require any dressing and are so helpful for snacking when you just need to be eating! In fact I ate so much that a bunch of people at my office started eating them too and we loved it. But these also work for the 21 day liquid diet post-op!

  4. I relied on tons of peas- sugar snap to be exact... Also the atkins shakes worked the best for me, but Trader Joes has an awesome shake with 35 grams of protein and low cal/low sugar and these were AWESOME...but they are $2.35 each...kind spendy...also lots of water or crystal lite helped a bunch...good luck!

  6. I was banded on April 5, 2010. My weight at banding was 225lbs. I am almost 5 mos. out and have only lost 15lbs. I am trying to follow the guidelines. I feel that I am eating properly, yet I am not seeing a great deal of weight loss. I have had two fills I am now at 7cc's. I do feel some restriction, more at times, but I teeter back and forth With 2 to 3lbs gain and loss. I am scheduled for another fill September 3rd. Does anyone have any suggestions to speed up my weight loss.

Are you getting filled in TJ? If so, I will be there to get banded! I hope it goes well with your fill!!

  7. Hi all, i'm sitting in the San Diego airport waiting to go home. I got a 2.4cc fill yesterday and feel pretty good. Angie I ran into a gal from Omaha having her second fill. Today going home I rode back with 2 gals I met the last time I was here for my first fill and they had just had surgery and were getting their first fill. As usual the experience was quick and easy. I stayed at the Camino Real which I really liked as it's very close to OCC and right next to the mall. I got cleared to start lifting again (Yeah). I hope all is well and I will post my to gains or setbacks. TC All RCR

That's where I'm staying! What's it like? How was the mall? I'm bringing my dad and he wants to check out the local color....

  8. What did you guys use to call home from Mexico? I understand calls can be made at the OCC, but I was wondering how to make calls from the hotel. My mother is curious about this since she wants to be in constant contact with home while we are in Mexico. Thanks!!! :D

I'd also like to know. I'm guessing a phone card might be the way to go.... Also, for those who went shopping while in TJ, is it a safe area? Should I bring cash or just my debit card?? Thanks all!

  9. I am also new. This is my first time logging on. I get banded on Sept. 3rd in TJ. I was really anxious after I made the decision. I had many panic attacks and really wondered if this was something that would change my life or that would lead to scary medical issues later in my life. I was afraid to tell my parents because they weren't very supportive when I first considered the idea a year ago. Then I saw a pic of myself at my cousin's wedding mid-July. That was it for me! I cannot go on in this manner. I avoid old friends out of embarrassment of the weight I have gained since high school. I read Dr. Ortiz's book and have 3 friends who went to the TJ site and have really excelled with the band. After visiting with them I have regained my excitement and HOPE. This is SO enormous for me! The incredible part was when I felt so anxious about not telling my parents. My twin sister finally called my Mom while I sat next to her crying...she was so elegant and awesome at explaining my decision to them and my need for them to share their fears/concerns/disapproval with my sister- but NOT me. She has been my rock!! They are still somewhat unsure, but are reading Ortiz's book and sharing their concerns with my sister and not me! Now, my DAD is coming with me to support me since my husband cannot get away from work! I would never believe THIS could happen. Just reading this forum has helped me to feel part of an enthusiastic community of supporters! I have added this page to my "regulars" of daily browsing! I am so very excited now. Thanks to all of you for posting! It has helped me enormously!!
